Indigo wanted very badly to brag about his tablet PC, but he realized that he was the only one in the room who really knew how awesome it was. "Yeah, it's good," he said about the ice cream. He almost wished he'd gotten two scoops instead of just one. He put his bag on the floor, then pulled out a few more things, firing up the laptop, plugging it in, then plugging his nano.
"This is new," he said, mostly to Jory, since Hyacinth hadn't seen his Mac. "I gave the Mac to mom because it was driving me crazy, and she doesn't care about settings or upgrades." Two things that Jory wouldn't care about either. "This one does something the other didn't, though." He twisted the screen around backwards, then folded it over, turning it into a touchscreen. He swiped his fingerprint to log in.

"Yeah? Oooo." The ice cream was momentarily forgotten at the new trick the laptop did. "That's cool. So you can just, like, poke it to make it do stuff? You don't have to push those letter buttons anymore?" It had the letters, but the screen was so much cooler, he thought. The ice cream begged his attention again soon and he took another bite.

"Yeah, you can just touch it. There's a keyboard," he said, lifting it up to show it off, "but you can open things like this..." He opened up Photoshop, opened a new page, then grabbed the stylus. "I've been drawing with it." He doodled a really crappy looking car just to show them, then offered the stylus to Jory to try.

"It won't, like, mess up the screen or anything will it?" Jory asked, eyeing the stick that felt so strange in his hand. But Indigo had used it, so he supposed it wasn't a big deal. He lightly touched the tip of the stick to the screen and drew a star. He grinned at the screen. "But it's not ink or anything, right?"

Hyacinth watched avidly for some moments as he ate his ice cream, but soon enough Remiel was attempting to climb out of his pocket and up the side of his hoodie. He glanced up at the counter, then reached down to pull the kitten's claws loose and set him on the table. Hopefully the man wouldn't notice, because Remiel was just too small to leave behind when he went places.

"No," Indigo was saying. "If you use your fingers it can get the screen dirty, but I can clean it off. I found a spell that'll clean it without messing it up, but... Is that a cat?" It had to have been a kitten it was so small, but he had thought even kittens were bigger than that. He'd have thought it was a pygmy puff, but it had feet and a tail.

Jory glanced up at Remiel, though he was much more interested in drawing various patterns on the screen, including signing his name. Every stroke brought a new small smile to his lips. His hand abandoned his spoon and reached out, pointing a finger for the tiny kitten to sniff. "I wonder if she'll ever get bigger," he mused.

"She is not adult yet," Hyacinth said. "She is not one year, I think she will grow." He reached into his other pocket for some cat treats, though they required a bit of breaking up to be small enough for her mouth. "She is called Remiel," he told Indigo. "She is cat and kneazle, and she is very smart. She likes to sleep in my hair," he added, smiling at Jory. "It is always white with grey at night now."

Indigo looked from the kitten, which he'd been watching curiously, to Hyacinth. "Wait, wasn't your hair brown?" He'd never met anyone like Hyacinth, not that he'd ever known anyone like Jory either, but he seemed to get more and more interesting the longer they were all together.

"I think Hyacinth's a metamorphmagus," Jory said. "It's cool, his hair changes colors all the time." He glanced up at Hyacinth and grinned before taking another large bite of his ice cream and drawing a cat face on the screen, complete with whiskers. "Can you make these move?"

"Uh, not in Photoshop," Indigo replied. "Flash can do it, and Dreamweaver, but I haven't figured those out yet." He looked aside at Hyacinth again, wondering if he could make duck faces or anything. Speaking of which... He reached back into his bag and came up with a paint-splatter patterned rubber duck about the size of the kitten and set it down to see what would happen. "Your hair really changes? Like, to whatever color you want?"

Hyacinth nodded, and his lips curved. "Professor laSalle said that I am..." He paused, then set his mouth to forming the word carefully. "Met-morph-mage. Ah, that word is difficult!" he added with a laugh. "He has twin sister, and she is one also. He said it is rare, and it is okay to have fun with."
He bit his lip slightly, though his eyes gleamed as he debated, then pushed back his hood. His hair was Remiel-colored now, but he closed his eyes tightly and concentrated, sending lavender streaks that grew until his hair matched the color of his namesake. He opened his eyes. "Did it work?" he asked breathlessly.

Jory glanced up and his eyes brightened. "Yep! That's so cool. Can you change anything else?" He knew that metamorphmaguses could completely change their appearance, but had no idea how much strength it required or if it took a long time to study and be able to do.

"Yes, but... I am not comfortable with the big changes. I am still learning magic." Hyacinth knew that he could, and it likely wouldn't be difficult, but changes that noticeable had only led to trouble in the past, so he was taking some good advice. He was starting small, doing what he was comfortable with, and taking what encouragement he could from professors and mentors.

"Wait, what year are you in?" Indigo asked. "You're like, our age, aren't you? Fifth or sixth year? Or do you mean you're just learning about the metamorphmagus thing?" From what he knew, it wasn't something that had to be learned, like transfiguration or becoming an animagus, but since he hadn't even known that Luxembourg was a country, he could be wrong.
