"It's our favorite magazine," Castiel said, as though that explained everything. "I have a subscription." He was trying not to stare, but it was obviously the same guy, and seeing him in real life was a lot different from a picture. "What's a..." He looked down at the magazine. "Media consultant?"

"I mean, when I hear media I only think of, like, tv and computers and stuff, but it's not a muggle magazine," Mari said. Though it had some rather interesting ideas on what certain muggle items were used for. "By the way, Hogwarts sounds so much more interesting than our school. Our old school," he corrected.

Indigo hadn't expected to be interviewed. Sure, the guy had come up to him because of the magazine, but he wasn't any kind of celebrity in real life. He had a following online, but that was completely different. It took him a moment to get over his surprise and decide if he even wanted to answer. He decided to skip the specifics.
"I just find stuff for a couple of the articles," he said. "I send them whatever's trending." New media was actually interactive media, but he wasn't entirely sure Cauldron knew that, so it was easier just not to get into it. It was also easier not to get into how much wizarding music he had in digital form, or how he'd gotten it.

"That's really cool, there's not anything like this back home. Do the people here take the muggle stuff articles as seriously as some of them do back home? I heard of a girl that had like a hundred ducks," Mari said when Castiel remained silent. He didn't mind rubber ducks, there were some really cute ones around, but for real?

In lieu of speaking, Indigo flipped open his bag. His EliteBook was just visible amongst his school supplies, but he reached past it, sticking his hand in halfway up his forearm. He dug out a paint-splattered rubber duck, which was his favorite, a keychain with a typical yellow duck on it that he'd painted black, and his newest, a grey-and-black emo duck with molded-on hair covering one eye.
"I don't have a hundred," Indigo said, "but they're seriously still in."

Castiel didn't ooh, but he did fail to hide the interest in his eyes. There were a couple girls at their school with a duck, but for the most part it had been laughed off. He glanced aside at Marius rather than say anything, then looked back down at the collection. The emo one was kind of funny.

"I should get one for my bag, maybe," Mari said. He reached over to turn a corner of his bag so that his accessories could be seen more easily. "They're cute, I just never got super into them. Can I look?" he asked, gesturing to the ducks Indigo had pulled out. He probably shouldn't be asking to fondle things someone he just met owned, but he had never exactly been subtle.

"Sure," Indigo said, and pushed the ducks further toward the center of the table. He glanced down at the netbook on the table, but decided not to comment on it. After the holiday, he wasn't as desperate to find someone else who knew what a computer was, and there wasn't anything great to say about the cheap little things.
He looked over at the quieter of the two, wondering how old they really were. "So are you hunting down everyone who works for Cauldron?" he asked.

Castiel's gaze left the ducks to light on Indigo. "We didn't hunt you down," he pointed out. Besides, they didn't need to hunt anyone down. They'd run into half the staff of the magazine just wandering around Hogsmeade, and most of the featured pseudo-celebrities just going to school.

Mari laughed and shook his head. "No, you just happened to come in. It's kind of cool knowing we'll be in school with a bunch of people in it, though," he said. He reached for one of the ducks and turned it over in his hands. "My mom got a job here in London and I begged my parents to let me go to Hogwarts instead of the other schools closer to home." Honestly it hadn't taken a lot of begging, considering the school's reputation.

"They sent me so he wouldn't be alone," Castiel added. Their parents being cousins was a technicality he'd rather not explain. It was Mari's mom and his stepdad, so they weren't really related, but it had been enough of a card to pull when asking to move.
They're sending Mari to another country! A whole different culture, all alone! We could help each other, and it'd be good for both of us. It was either that or the Think of how Hogwarts will look on my resumes that had won it for him, he wasn't sure.

"I woulda been fine by myself," Mari claimed, grinning over at Castiel. "It's good to have him here, though, we've been friends since first year." When he was honest with himself, he was able to admit that it could be hard to make good friends due simply to how strange he knew he could be. He wondered if there were a lot of Americans at Hogwarts, or if they just happened to usually be the ones that made the news.

Castiel gave Marius a hard look. He wouldn't have been fine without Mari, especially since Cheyenne wouldn't go all the way. He was thinking about dumping her when they left anyhow. Maybe he knew Marius was teasing, but he didn't want to look like he was just his friend's fanboy.

Mari raised his eyebrows at Castiel and smiled again. "Seriously, it would have totally sucked if you hadn't come," he said. He nudged his friend with an elbow and pushed the ducks back toward Indigo. "I still can't believe you talked your parents into letting you." It wasn't something he was going to complain about, though, and he wouldn't question their luck.

Castiel felt marginally better at that, and though he didn't smile, he gave a little tilt of his head and a softer look. Sometimes he wished he was half as outgoing as Marius, but then he supposed they'd be way too much for anyone else to handle. It was why God hadn't made them brothers, for sure.
