Indigo had intended to spend the entire holiday with his parents, but they'd had other plans. There was a whirlwind of activity, of visiting and being visited by family he only saw once a year, and the upcoming New Year.
Dad had an office Christmas party to go to, and Mom was going along, but it wasn't something Indigo was allowed to attend. They'd been vague about it, as though he didn't realize it was going to be full of messy, middle-aged drunks, probably papering the boss's desk with photocopies of various asses. He'd have passed even if they'd invited him.
So his choices had been sit at home alone on the Internet, or head back to Hogwarts and try to meet up with his friends. On the one hand; Internet. On the other, however; not sitting online alone blogging about how he didn't have anything better to do on New Year's Eve than blog.
He'd be hopping on the Hogwarts Express soon enough, but for now, he thought he'd drop by the ice cream shop and make sure everything was the way he'd left it. For all the junk food he'd eaten in the past week, he was still craving some mint chocolate chip.

Castiel had wrapped his arms around Marius just for the fun of it to watch him finish the doll, but he glanced up at the sound of the door opening. He watched the boy for a moment before recognition struck. It couldn't be! Plus, there was no way he could tell for real, considering how small the picture in the magazine was.
Still, he let go of Marius and pulled the magazine out from under his stacked papers. He flipped through almost to the front and scanned down the staff page until he found what he was looking for. Indigo Noble.
His eyes widened as he compared what little he could see; black hair, what looked like gauged ears, he couldn't quite see his face, though. He patted at Marius before shoving the magazine on top of the netbook. He tapped the picture, then pointed insistently. Is that who I think it is?

Mari's eyebrows came together as he looked at the picture, but they widened like Castiel's when he looked up at the guy. It had to be him, unless Indigo Noble had a twin brother, though if he did have a twin brother, Mari would definitely want to talk to him, too. "We should offer for him to sit with us," he whispered, not thinking about the fact that the room was likely quiet enough for him to be heard.

Indigo might have ignored the whispering if he hadn't already felt like he was being stared at. As it was, he hoped that Rhys would come out, because he had a new toy he wanted to show off. He shifted his weight, then glanced back over his shoulder, his brows drawing together at the sight of two oddly-dressed teenage boys, both with wide eyes. He looked forward again, wondering what they were really looking at.

"You do it!" Castiel hissed, patting Marius again. He'd caught that glance, and it had excited him all over again, because yes, it was definitely the guy from the magazine. He looked just the same!
He let go of Marius and folded his arms in front of himself. There was no way he was walking up to that guy and asking if he was Indigo Noble, and asking for autographs. Marius could do the asking, and he'd jump in after.

Mari's eyes darted back to Castiel before he nodded and slid out of his seat, dropping his scarf on his bag. "Hi," he said when he came up to Indigo. "I'm Mari, and that's my friend Castiel. I know we're being awkward and staring and stuff but it's because we recognize you from the magazine and we wanted to tell you that if you wanted you could sit with us." Seriously, the guy was in a magazine, he shouldn't have to sit alone.

Indigo blinked in surprise at the sudden wash of information, and from a kid who looked straight out of some J-Pop band. Mari? He glanced over at the other kid, then back to the one standing directly beside him. He shrugged. "Sure, I guess. I just... want to talk to the owner first." Well, one of the owners. And get some ice cream.

Castiel was watching, still wide-eyed, and hanging on every word. At that sure, which might as well have been heck yeah! he unfolded his arms and started clearing off the table. His printed out papers got stuffed back into his bag, the netbook's lid got closed, and he grabbed a napkin to wipe up any ice cream drips. Should he put the magazine away? Was that too much fanboy? Should he leave it out and hope Indigo signed it? Where was his quill?

"Okay, we're just wasting time before the Hogwarts Express," Mari said, smiling brightly. Then he turned and went back to his seat. He glanced over at Castiel. See? It wasn't that hard. Of course, excitement showed in his eyes and in how he couldn't quite sit normally. His legs bent in the chair, one tucked beneath him and one up against his coat covered chest.

Rhys had seen much stranger kids than the pair taking advantage of the internet in the shop and barely gave them a second glance. He'd disappeared into the back just before Indigo came in, and a minute later he was behind the counter and one of the boys was making his way back to the table. "Hey, Indigo, how are you?" he asked, smiling.

"Spoiled and loving it," Indigo replied. "I upgraded my iPod nano to a touch and..." He reached into his messenger bag to pull out a smooth chunk of metal. "A virtual keyboard. It connects to about anything, and I've got a full-size keyboard, I love it." It gave him the best techgasms since his EliteBook, which he was still half in love with.

"That's cool," Rhys said. "I saw one of those laser keyboards online once, but I heard those kinds of keyboards can be a pain to get used to typing on." The lack of any kind of physical response would definitely throw him, though he supposed that someone could get used to just about anything. "You want anything?" he added, gesturing to the display.

"Yeah, just a scoop of mint chocolate chip. I'll be back to sundaes in a week or two." He already had his money out, familiar enough with the prices after over half a year that he didn't need to wait for the register.
"Some of the punctuation isn't where it should be, but you get that on smartphones and stuff, too. I've got to hit the bottoms of the keys instead of the centers, but it gets easier after a while. It's fun, though, and it's the easiest keyboard ever to clean."

Rhys picked out a cup and doled out a scoop, well, maybe a little bit more than a scoop. He liked Indigo and the little group were repeat customers so it didn't bother neither him nor Matthew to give them a little bit extra sometimes. He chuckled lightly at the joke. "I bet it is," he said, handing over the cup. "I didn't get any electronics this year, except for, you know, a game or two. Steam winter sale is bleeding me dry." The sale had ridiculous percentages off of bundles of games and single games and he simply couldn't resist.

That topic got Indigo excited all over again, and he stayed at the counter talking with Rhys for a while longer before finally turning away with his ice cream. He'd almost forgotten about the guys waiting for him to sit with them. How old were they, anyway? They looked like they were thirteen.
He paused as he reached them, then set down his ice cream on the table. "So you recognized me from that?" he asked, gesturing at the open magazine. He pulled out a chair across from the two and sat down. The picture was maybe an inch square, near the bottom of the staff page. Who even looked at the staff page?
