Aiden wasn't the type of guy to just let a girl win because she was a girl, he didn't get the whole idea of letting girls win or whatever, and so he pushed harder the last little bit. Okay, so he might have let her stay close when he could have zoomed ahead, but that was as far as he went to possibly, potentially give her an ego boost.

Verity finished last, but it was only to be expected. Curse those blasted school brooms, but at least she gave it a shot. Verity looped back around so she was facing him. She had lost, wasn't that enough? She didn't want to have to admit it too. No, she wouldn't admit it. Why should she? She hovered in front of him with her lips pressed firmly together. Her eyes looked his broom over, automatically sizing it up and putting a price on it. A Nimbus wasn't bad, but it was nothing like her Firebolt. She could race him in her sleep on her Firebolt and still kick his butt. She was stubborn enough, she could have summoned her Firebolt right there and had a rematch, but she had to protect her dear broom.

"So," Aiden said after making a short victory lap around the hoops. He hovered in front of her, grinning. "First off, better luck next time. Second...name?" He had won fair and square, so he got a name. "Or are you going to hold me to that maybe and leave me in the dark. If that's the case, do I get to pick a name for you?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

Verity rolled her eyes. She was a sore loser, but she tried to suck it up and move on. "Verity," She said briefly. Well, maybe she wasn't sucking it up and moving on after all. She refused to look him in the eye and instead turned her focus to an ant-sized tree below her. She was still shaking, on this time it was because the cold had bitten through her coat. This was ridiculous, she realized. She didn't have anything to hold against him. She had no reason for hating him, she was being absurd. She took in a deep breath, or as deep of a breath as she could manage in the cold. "I'm Verity Bromley. Seventh year. Slytherin." She said, her voice shaking with shivers at each word that came out of her mouth. "And you are?"

"Aiden Shover, sixth year Hufflepuff. Oooo, the little Huffie beat a big bad Slytherin chick," Aiden said, grinning broadly still. "Need to go inside?" he asked when the shivering clicked in his mind. He was good for another few minutes, at least, though he would love to stay out for hours on end. It just wasn't anywhere near warm enough for that.

Verity narrowed her eyes and glared at him. Maybe she had lost, but she wasn't afraid to bite. "I'd watch out for you." Verity said, trying her best to keep her voice steady. "Or your head might get so big that it falls off." She said, doing a small circle to keep from completely freezing to death. "I'm fine." She snapped, whipping her broom back around. The last thing she needed was him thinking she was some little girl who could hardly handle a little cold, let alone competing in a quidditch match. If she didn't really have to think about it, she wouldn't seem as cold.

Aiden bit his tongue and took a breath. "Okay, obviously I did something that pissed you off, and I'm sorry. I'm just...in a really good mood and I tend to just say whatever pops into my mind on a normal day, and it's like so much worse when I'm in a good mood. And really, how could I not be in a good mood when we've been stuck in that damned castle for what...weeks?" Okay, so it probably hadn't been that long, but it definitely felt like it.

Verity blinked. "No...you haven't done anything to piss me off." She said with a sigh. She hated when she turned into her old self. Not that she could quite name the event or specific time that she became her new self, but there was an obvious difference between the person who first came to Hogwarts and the person she was now. "I'm a bit crabby." She said apologetically. "Like you said, we've been couped up in that castle for far too long." If Verity's cheeks hadn't already been blushed a bright pink from the frosty air, her cheeks would have burned a bright red. "I-I don't t-t-think I've seen-n you ar-r-round h-here." She said. If her fingers weren't so numb, she could reach for her wand and cast a warming charm over herself. She can't believe she didn't do that in the first place. "A-are you-u-u n-n-new?" She managed to spit out. Maybe she just wasn't that observant.

"Nah, I've been here since I was eleven," Aiden said. "Are you sure you don't want to go inside? I mean, even just the locker rooms would be a little warmer, we could get one of those fire in a jar things going." Not that he was great at making them, but surely they could figure out some kind of warmth spell to chase away the chill for a few minutes and regain the feeling in their fingers and faces.

Verity nodded, but it was possible that she was shivering too much for him to notice it. If she stayed up there any longer, she was sure she was going to freeze to death, and she couldn't do that, now could she? She was far too young and pretty (and apparently conceited). She began her descent. Well, if he didn't see her gesture, he'd get the idea. When Verity touched the ground, her legs were shaking. She forgot how different it felt walking on ground than flying in the air. She looked around, but the broom closet was on the other side of the Pitch. There was no way she was walking all the way down there right now. She'd just keep it with her until she could feel her fingers enough to walk it over there. It wasn't like she was stealing it forever or anything. Verity looked around for Aiden. He had gotten her message, hadn't he?

Aiden flew down and dropped himself right beside the door, unwilling to see just how strong his waterproofing spell was when put to the test outside. He opened the door and gestured for Verity to go in. "Coming?" he asked, smiling at her. Maybe he could get some more flying in before heading up to the castle once they thawed themselves out.

Verity nodded and walked through the door quickly. Her fingers were still clenched around the broom's handle, but she couldn't feel them or move them to relax her grip. In fact, as soon as she got inside, everything went numb. She couldn't tell if she was overheating or getting colder. Regardless, she was still shaking. Once she got enough control of her fingers to loosen her grip on the broom, Verity set the broom against the wall. "Thank you." She said, finally, thanking him for bringing her into a warm room (even if she couldn't feel it yet and even if she was very capable of taking herself into a warm room) and for holding the door for her. Verity hugged her arms around her chest in an effort to get warmer more quickly. She wasn't to the point where her fingers were thawed enough that she could pull out her wand.

"Let me see if I can do this spell right," Aiden said, pulling out his wand. He looked around for some container he could use, and then focused on trying to create that stupid fire. It would take him a few tries, at least, he really needed more practice. "If you figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong, yell at me or something."

Verity watched him struggle with the spell for a few moments. She could've done it as soon ass her fingers thawed, but she was having too much fun watching. So her wandwork wasn't up to par. She wasn't the best student and she hardly ever practiced outside of the classroom, but this particular spell was one she used frequently to light a fire in the fireplace at the Three Broomsticks. Verity pulled her wand out. It was entertaining enough to see him struggle, but she did need heat eventually. She pointed her wand at the jar and said, "Incendio!" She had a smug look on her face as the flames rose up in the jar.

That wasn't exactly the spell he was going for, and Aiden jumped when Verity set the fire and very nearly dropped the jar which was quickly rising in temperature. "Well...I was trying for that one that you can carry around in a jar...the bluebell one...but okay." He could do incendio just fine, thank you very much. He set the fire away from him at a safe distance. He was fairly certain that fire and glass didn't get along very well, and he didn't want to be around it when and if it shattered.
