Hyacinth would be going home for the summer, but not for another week and that meant quiet afternoons alone. Well, almost alone. As he approached the lake, bookbag slung over his shoulder, one hand slid into his pocket. A soft purring began, and a moment later he gently removed a tiny grey-white cat that, despite its kitten-like size, had knowing, intelligent eyes.
"Do you want to visit the lake?" he asked it in Luxembourgish. The cat's mouth opened wide in a tiny squeak of a meow, and Hyacinth's lips curved. He gave its fur a soft stroke, then set it on his shoulder, where it balanced, tail out, and looked at the scenery.
He found a comfortable spot on a large, flat, sun-warmed stone with a broad view of the lake. Trees gathered around a nearby clearing and finally he sat to pull out a notebook. He was still trying to catch up, and every bit of work he got done would help.

Ocean had been wanting to visit the lake since she had seen it. The landscape would be wonderful for sketching and she would bother less people playing her guitar outside. She walked to the lake with her guitar strapped on her like a backpack. She sat down by the the lake's shore and suddenly noticed a boy about her age sitting and working. Homework probably, she thought. She was conflicted, she wanted to play her guitar, but she didn't want to disturb him. "Hey" she said to the boy, "Do you mind if I play my guitar?"

Hyacinth looked up from half an essay on basic Transfiguration, and his near-white hair began shifting colors without his permission. Baby blue blossomed into teal simply at the thought that he found the girl's hair interesting. He paid it no attention. "I like to hear guitar," he said in accented English. He was working on his English, too.

Ocean stared at him, his hair had changed colour. He is a metamorphmagus she thought. She suddenly noticed a tiny gray and white kitten on his shoulder. "You have a cat" she said trying to strike up a conversation, "I have a cat to". She started playing a slow, low song on her guitar. She usually only played this song when she thought about her sister. Her sister had loved cats.

Hyacinth had only become aware of his hair at the look the girl had given him, and he pulled one of the longer strands forward to check. He'd been at Hogwarts long enough that he'd started forgetting that even among magical folk, he was still a rarity. He concentrated a moment and his hair faded back to a softer shade of blue.
"Where is your cat?" Hyacinth asked a moment later.

"Oh, my cat is still in my dorm" Ocean said. She had noticed his hair check and was embarrassed that her staring had been noted. She played a few more chords. This guy seemed cool, but she was sure that the subject of cats wouldn't spin on long enough. "So" she said "do you play any instruments?"

Hyacinth shook his head slightly. "I can play some songs on piano and sing a little," he said. He wondered why she'd left her cat behind and reached for his own, pulling it onto one leg to pet. The tiny beast stuck to his trousers with all four paws, arching its narrow back for scratches.
"This is Remiel," he said, returning to the subject of cats, since his was out. "She is part kneazle and very smart." She was perfectly at home in the Ravenclaw Dormitory. "Oh! I am Hyacinth. What are you called?"

"My name..." Ocean hesitated, she didn't know this guy well enough to say her real name,"My name is Ocean" she said."I used to play piano, I wasn't very good though". She remembered only one song on the piano, and that by Mozart. She watched him pet the kitten and wondered why she hadn't brought Ebony. "So, Hyacinth, how long have you been here?" she asked.

Hyacinth thought back. "I have been here one year and a half," he said. Jory had mentored him for a time, but his friends had all left school and moved away. He'd spent a great deal of time alone or with any professor whose office hours he could memorize.
"It is a good school. You are new here?" It was strange how many new students seemed to arrive during the summer.

"Yeah, I'm new here" she replied. Ocean realized that she had stopped playing. She looked at her guitar and started wondering what song to play next. "Do you have any requests?" she asked, pointing at her guitar. This Hyacinth guy seems really cool she thought.

Hyacinth smiled at the question, but shook his head. "I will be happy with what you choose," he assured her. "Are you in classes now?" he asked. He wasn't, but then, he did the bulk of his work outside class. A year and a half wasn't enough to make up five years of missed education.

Ocean made a small smile and started strumming a happier tune. "I'm not in any classes, it's just better here than at home" she said. She blushed, the last part of what she said slipped out on it's own. She hoped that he wouldn't ask why,she tried to pay more attention to her guitar. Maybe she could change the subject?
"So... what house are you in? I'm in Gryffindor" Ocean hoped that her new topic of conversation would last.

Hyacinth's dark brows drew together in concern, but out of respect for Ocean's words, he didn't press for answers. Rather, he set Remiel on the ground to explore and let the conversation be changed.
"I am Ravenclaw," he replied. "I had a friend in Gryffindor. He is at university now." What could he say about Jory to someone who would likely never meet him? He smiled at Remiel, watching as the cat stalked a beetle in the grass. "I have Remiel. She is a good cat."

Ocean was glad that he took the turn of topic. "There is a University?" she asked. She new a lot about Hogwarts from her mother talking about it, so the University must be new. "I like your cat" she said. She considered talking about Ebony but there wouldn't be a lot to talk about.
"How long have you had Remiel?" she said smiling. The topic of cats was holding out longer than she had thought.

"I have had Remiel since my first day," Hyacinth said. "I found her in the pet shop at Diagon Alley. She was smaller then!" It was hard to believe that such a small animal was grown, but she was. "I think she will always be small, but that is good because I take her with me." The professors didn't mind an animal too little and too quiet to be a distraction.
