"My cat Ebony is sort of small too, but he is too playful" Ocean said. "I brought him with me to the Great Hall yesterday, and he knocked over two glasses full of pumpkin juice". She considered seeing if the Accio charm would work on Ebony, but she changed her mind. "I got my cat when I visited Diagon Alley" "I still haven't got the hang of taking care of a cat" she said laughing. "I'm new to this pet stuff.

"Ah, you should spend time with your cat," Hyacinth said. "If you do not, how will it know how to behave?" Remiel often hid in his pocket or bag, but he always brought her out when he stopped somewhere. Maybe it was easier for him because she was so small.

Ocean thought about it. Maybe she should spend more time with Ebony. His cat was much smaller than hers though. "I'll try" she said, thinking. She slowed down her song and tried to concentrate on the music. "Are you from around here?" she asked. The air seemed relaxed. The lake reflected the sky, making it seem like a great mirror.

Hyacinth gave a little laugh. "No," he said, "I am from Luxembourg. And you are American, yes? You have the American accent." He'd never once been asked if he was British, and it amused him. Still, he didn't want to offend the girl. "When you are here a year and a half you will know many accents," he promised her. "There are many Americans, even American professors."

"Yeah, I'm American" Ocean said. She felt a little embarrassed, he probably didn't get asked if he was a local a lot. She figured that there would be a fair mix of people here, since it was the greatest wizarding school in the country.

"Castiel is American, he is a Ravenclaw. The Transfiguration professor is also American, and the Deputy Headmaster, but I think that he is English now. He has lived here a long time now." Some people thought it was strange that someone in such a position of power could be a foreigner, but people made their homes where they wished, and Hyacinth believed deeply in acceptance.

Ocean thought for a moment. "How many people are there here during the summer?" she asked. "Is Castiel about your age to?" she wondered. How many students could she meet. She had a few friends at SWIM, but here she was alone. Well maybe not, maybe this guy could be her friend.Maybe.

Hyacinth nodded at Ocean's question. "He is... sixth year I think. He is also here this summer. There are not many students though, and some professors take holiday. The Transfiguration and Defense professors are on holiday." And so he was writing essays and doing book work to keep from forgetting anything.

Ocean was confused. He was doing homework, on his own time? She racked her brain for something to talk about. She picked up the pace of the song she was playing and watched the lake. She tried to look for shapes in the clouds, she saw a boat, a hat and what almost looked like a puffskein. "What are the professors like?" she asked, "There are more people here during fall, right?"

"Many more," Hyacinth answered. He took a moment to think about the professors. "The Ancient Runes professor is good, but seems troubled. He also has a shop on Diagon Alley with potions and things." Potions and Oddities, it claimed. "The Arithmancy professor is... interesting. She is very beautiful. She was a writer for the Daily Prophet." Interesting was as nice as he could describe her. Other students used much more colorful language.

"The Daily Prophet,hmm... what about the Charms teacher or the Potions teacher" Ocean said. "Is there an advanced Potions here" she said in interest. She hoped that there was a advanced potions,SWIM had one. She missed SWIM. Stop it Ocean, she thought, you'll make yourself cry.

"The Charms professor is very strict, but also a good teacher," Hyacinth said. "He is married to the Astronomy professor. The Potions professor is quiet and..." How could he say it? "Ah, I do not know the word. Some people say he is a Death Eater, and some people say he is an Auror. He is a mystery."

"Huh, who is the Headmaster?" said Ocean. The Potions teacher must be an Auror, the Headmaster wouldn't hire a Death Eater. Would they? "Isn't there supposed to be a giant squid in this lake?" she asked. Ocean had the sudden urge to go swimming later, well she figured, I'm going to go swimming later anyway, squid or no squid.

"Ah..." Hyacinth was distracted from her first question by the second. "Yes, the squid lives in the lake somewhere," he said. "It is friendly. Sometimes it will help a first-year who falls into the water. I have seen it swim!" Only part of it, however. Now and then it waved a lazy tentacle out of the water.
Back to her first question, though. "Do you mean Deputy Headmaster, or Headmistress?"

"Oh, sorry for the confusion, I meant Headmistress" said Ocean. "At my old school we had a Headmaster, not a Headmistress". She stared at the lake, yep she thought, I'm going swimming later. Would the squid toss her out of the water if she tried to swim? And when would she go swimming?
