Dru walked past the piece of wall leading to the room of requirement, trying her best to focus on what she wanted; somewhere to relax with a good book in a nice comfy chair. To her surprise a door appeared, large and made of heavy mahogany, with an ornate silver handle. She pulled the door open and stepped into the room.
As she looked around it, she sighed, it was perfect. Small, but not too small, with a plush, deep emerald fainting couch in front of a crackling fireplace. By the fireplace was a small bookshelf stuffed with muggle fantasy books, her favorites were all there. She pulled out Sinner by Sarah Douglass, and settled down in the couch and beginning to read.

Chase had turned into the corridor just as a large door appeared out of nowhere and he saw Druscilla go through it. No one else was around, so he made his way after her, but the door had vanished. Damn. Chase paced the spot a moment, hoping for a way in, curious more than anything, and within moments, the door had reappeared. He didn't waste any time, but grabbed the handle and gave it a turn.
He'd been expecting another corridor, maybe a path into the Ravenclaw Common Room, but it was a room in itself, small and intimate. His lips curved into a smile as he caught sight of Druscilla, curled up in front of the fire with a book. A book with a scantily-clad, winged woman standing on a castle beside a warrior. Chase's smile widened to a grin. He closed the door as quietly as he could, then crept up near Druscilla, leaning close enough to read the title before clearing his throat to get her attention. "Good book?" he asked.

Dru jumped, she had skipped part of the book to a very intense scene and the sudden words startled her. "Yes, my favorite," she said, looking up. She closed the book, keeping her place with her finger. Against her will, her heart rate sped up as the memory of their last meeting came into her head. "Very well written, amazing plot lines and characters," she said, looking up into his eyes.

"I bet," Chase said, grinning. He believed her, but all the same, the title of the book spoke volumes. "Sinner, hm? And here I thought you walked the straight and narrow." Chase moved around the couch and sat down next to Druscilla, a bit closer than proper. "I haven't read Douglass," he said, looking idly at the book cover as it sat in her lap. "I'm more into Orson Scott Card." He looked up into Dru's eyes. "But don't tell anyone, I'll get a reputation."

"Just because I act a goody-two-shoes doesn't mean I don't read things," Dru grinned, "And it's not as bad as the title implies." She pulled her legs in closer to her when he sat down. "I've never heard of that author, what genre is it?" she asked, surprised that they were actually having a conversation. Pulling a slip of paper out of the slingbag, she always carried it full of books, that was on the floor by the couch, she marked her place in the book and sat it down. She looked back at him, putting an arm over the back of the couch.

Chase noticed Dru's slight movement away from him and took the opportunity to stretch lazily, conveniently closing the space she'd just created. "Science fiction, mostly," he answered. "It's a Muggle thing." Not for the first time, Chase wondered at the twist of fate that had sorted him into Slytherin. It didn't occur to him to think about anything he might have done outside this very moment to deserve such a sorting.

When he stretched out, Dru didn't move, they were nearly touching. "When I'm with my dad back home I'll watch scifi, but I never got into reading it," she said, remembering. Sometimes she missed the life she had had before getting the letter for her American school. Muggle parents but a witch and wizard for great grandparents.

"Watch?" Chase repeated, a moment before he realized what she was talking about. "Oh! Tee Vee!" he exclaimed. For all the Muggle books he'd read, he still knew very little about them. Chase had actually forgotten his goal of shifting closer to Dru in his excitement. "So your dad has a Tee Vee? The kind that plugs into the wall?"

"Huh?" Dru had to think for a second, then she laughed, the first time she had truly laughed in a long time. "Yes, he does, he's a muggle." The smile stayed on her face and every few moments she'd let out a soft laugh. "He's also got a telephone and all those other wonderful things that plug into the wall." She couldn't help but laugh as she finished her sentence.

Chase was too interested to pay much attention to Druscilla's laughter. He could feel the energy in the laugh though, and it added to his own. "Was he always a Muggle?" Chase realized how stupid the question was and backpedaled quickly. "I mean, you grew up with Muggles?" He still couldn't quite get over the fact that Dru had seen a telephone. He'd only ever seen pictures.

Dru smiled, "Yes, my dad's a muggle, and so was my mom, but I do have magic in my blood from my great grandparents on my mom's mom's side," she laughed, "Does that make any sense?" Her grandmother had actually been a Ravenclaw before moving to America for a fresh start. She looked into Chase's eyes and watched his face, he seemed so excited over things that were commonplace for her.

"Yeah, that makes sense," Chase said. Someone in her family would have been a squib and married a Muggle, but the magic would still be there. "Was it weird growing up Muggle?" It took a moment for Chase to realize he was exposing his ignorance, and he grimaced slightly. "Don't listen to me." His eyes gleamed. "Well, not when I'm talking about Muggles, anyway." His parents would cringe if they could hear him now, asking questions about things that weren't part of his world.

Dru grinned, "Don't worry about it, it's cute," she said, noticing the way his eyes looked. "It was really strange because I didn't really grow up muggle or magical, it was a nice mixture because of my family. But I loved it." The way she had grown up was extremely unorthodox, TVs and phones alongside wizarding radio and moving photographs. She had been homeschooled with both muggle and wizarding friends.

Chase paused a moment before asking the question that had boggled him the most about Muggles. He figured it should be safe, since Druscilla hadn't openly mocked him yet. Chase glanced up at the section of wall where the door had been, double-checking that they were alone. He didn't want to risk someone walking in on them just yet. When he turned his attention back to Druscilla, his eyes shone maroon in the flickering firelight. He'd heard someone else ask this question once, and it seemed to encompass everything that Muggles stood for. "What, exactly, is the function of a rubber duck?"

"A rubber duckie?" she repeated, a smile still on her face. "I never really had one, it's just a bath toy for little kids." Dru loved this side of Chase, it was so different from what she had already seen of him, but it seemed to fit him in some strange way. Unconsciously she leaned in closer to him, wondering what he would ask next, the corners of her lips turned up.
