Dru laughed lightly, "I never said you did get involved." Her face revealed nothing of what she was thinking, she wanted to see what he was truly like so she could leave, remove herself from him if need be. The sudden absence of his hand was a strange feeling, and she began to regret, began to think she had went too far, but there was no sense in stopping now. "I only asked what if."

What if? Chase was silent a moment, his face turned toward the fire so that the reflection of its glow would hide any sign that he was actually thinking about what she said. What if? He supposed it would be much the same as when his parents had dragged him out of his first two schools. "It doesn't matter," he argued, still watching the fire. "Nothing lasts long enough to get that far."

Dru paused, forming the words in her mind before speaking them, choosing carefully. "Perhaps...if you'd focus on one girl...and allow yourself, it could get that far." She watched him as he watched the fire, studying his expressions, she had apparently hit on something. "And maybe, just maybe, if you did, you'd enjoy it much more than what you do now." Clasping her hands together tightly, she resisted the urge to put a hand on his back.

Chase let out a low pshh, his eyes gleaming red enough to show through the orange of the firelight for just a moment. "It doesn't matter," he said again. So what if he did let someone in? She'd walk away sooner or later, and he'd be back to square one. He didn't have to suffer rejection this way.

Dru sighed, "Maybe you should try it, you never know, you're just going to end up hurting yourself if you continue on the way you're going right now." One of her hands started to go towards his leg, but she stopped it, letting it rest on her knee, she moved them both under her thighs with her feet on the floor.

He'd already hurt himself. What did it matter if he got hurt? And wasn't that exactly the point she was trying to make? But what was he supposed to do? Just dump them all and pick one? Dump? You're not in a single relationship, Chase. He turned to look at Dru, his eyes gleaming near crimson. "Maybe I just haven't found anyone worth focusing on." The words were purposefully hurtful, a last-ditch attempt to regain his balance by throwing up a wall. It always worked.

The words hit Dru hard, but she didn't show it, instead she stood, shrugging. "Well then," she said, bending down and picking up her bag and putting the book in it. "I suppose you'll just have to keep looking then, won't you?" She slung the bag over one shoulder and walked between Chase and the fireplace towards the door, not looking at him.

In a moment of sheer impulse, Chase reached out, catching her wrist to keep her from getting away. He'd made his point, but something didn't feel right. "You don't care what I do," he said, though the words were obviously meant to convince him, not her. "You heard the rumors and you stayed anyway." They weren't exactly rumors, and she was about to leave, but she'd stayed long enough to count. "What's it matter?" It didn't matter. If it did...he'd probably never see her again. Chase tried to convince himself that wouldn't be a loss, but it didn't seem to be working.

Dru closed her eyes and looked down for a moment, taking a breath as she thought out her words. "Maybe I don't care, maybe I do," she said, then looked down into his eyes. "I stayed because you truly are a fascinating person." She reached out and brushed the hair from his face with her free hand, trailing it down to his chin. An impulse to kiss him softly came over her but she resisted and pulled her hand bac. "But of course, what does what I think matter to you?" She pulled her wrist gently from his grasp to tuck her hair behind her ear as she looked at him.

Chase's eyes were dark and unreadable as Druscilla's question filtered through his wall, lodging somewhere beside a comment about his ego. "Maybe it does matter, maybe it doesn't." He'd far prefer that it didn't, but luck didn't seem to be in his favor. "If I'm so fascinating, why don't you stay?" And why couldn't he believe anything without confirmation?

Dru stared at him, good question. There was an answer, but did she really want to admit it? What could the truth hurt? "I don't want to do something I'll regret later," she said, looking levelly into his eyes. "I, unlike most people, have some semblance of self control." Most of the time. The incident at the club was an exception. Why did he have to be so stubborn, why couldn't he just answer her? Give her something to go on?

"Control is overrated." It was loss of control he sought, though he could never lose himself enough to truly find it. "Regret is overrated too. Why would you regret something you enjoyed?" Perhaps it was twisted logic, but it was the truth as he knew it, and he knew she'd enjoyed herself the other night.

"Doing something enjoyable in the spur of the moment, and then enjoying it afterwards, are two completely different things." Dru said, starting to feel like she was grasping for straws. Crossing her arms tightly, she continued to look down at him. "If something is fully enjoyable, it needs to be enjoyable to look back on and without doubts." However much she disliked Michael, she could still think of his kisses and smile, even the thought of his touch sent a shiver up her spine. A thread of guilt came over her when she thought of how she had acted in the Bloody Mary.

Chase gave a light chuckle. "But why would you regret it later?" Chase had little to no concept of regret. "It was fun, right? It can't get less fun after it's happened. It already happened." The look on her face told him that she wasn't having fun now, and he felt an uncomfortable moment of doubt as to his skill, though he pushed it firmly aside. Maybe Druscilla was just hard to please.

"True, but you could feel bad about it the next day, like having a bad hangover, it was fun while it lasted but there's a horrible feeling the next day." Dru was trying to explain, but felt she was failing miserably. "You live for the moment, never thinking about the future though," she said, something clicking in her head. "Just forget it, you'll never understand." She turned once more and started to walk towards the door.
