Cassie sighed, "I hated lying to them, but I couldn't tell them I was here obviously. They think I went abroad to study, it was presented to them as a big secret which isn't officially talked about, but I know my friends will wonder." Cassie sipped her wine, she hadn't talked about the split in her life before that much, and it made her keenly feel the loss of Sophie, Rosie and the others.

"Abroad," Dare repeated. "Are you abroad? You're British, aren't you?" He looked away from the poster to glance at Cassie assessingly, then took another long drink of his water. It had been another surprise how many students at Hogwarts weren't actually British at all. Dare and Silver had thought they'd stick out, and well, Dare still stuck out a little, but from the sound of things, Silver was fitting right in.

"Yes I'm british, both my parent's work for the ministry" Cassie answered. "Well that's what they think, and for the moment at least, I can't tell them different. Things would just get too complicated" Cassie said, ~as if things weren't complicated enough as it is~ she added to herself silently, thinking about her difficult situation. "Are you suprised at how many students aren't british?" she asked quickly, drawing her mind away from her thoughts as she finished her glass of wine.

"I was," Dare admitted. "About everyone at the old school was American, I mean they were American on paper at least, except an exchange student or two. I don't know, I guess I didn't realize what a massive school this was."

Cassie nodded, listening to Dare as she poured herself another glass of wine. She wasn't a heavy drinker, but she had grown up with the odd glass of wine with dinner and it relaxed her. "This is known as one of the best magic schools, parents from all over the world want their children here" Cassie said thoughtfully. "And who wouldn't want to come, its an amazing school" she added.

Dare shrugged and looked down at his glass, the motion sending his hair over his eyes. "It's a great school," he said, though it was difficult to be entirely convinced. He'd just moved to another country, for chrissake. He hadn't been around nearly long enough to be attached.

Cassie smiled slightly at his lack of passion. "I fell in love with it quickly. It's like another home to me but I guess you haven't been here long enough to grow so attatched yet" she said softly, letting more of her wine slip down her throat.

"I was just thinking that same thing," Dare said. Not that he got attached particularly easily. He was in his own world most of the time. Of course, considering that, did it really matter where his own world happened to be located. In the long run, he supposed not. Dare tipped his glass up, draining the last of his water and a few ice cubes into his mouth. "I'll get there some time," he said out of the corner of his lips.

"You probably will" Cassie said with a laugh as she agreed with him. "i don't know anyone who hasn't fallen in love with life her sooner or later" she said, putting her glass down as she streched out a little in the chair.

Dare was glad his hair obscured the mildly cynical, slightly disbelieving look on his face. He couldn't imagine by any stretch of the imagination that everyone in the school was that happy to be there. He could, however, imagine that Cassie was glad to be there. It was understandable; she'd spent most of her life doing one thing, and now she got to explore her magical side. It made sense. "So what's so great about Hogwarts?" Dare asked, out of genuine curiosity.

"You can't really define it" Cassie started. "It's so unlike anywhere else. I feel totally at home here. The castle is fantastic, I mean, just take this room. Then there are the grounds, the lake the forest. Everything. It inspires me every day, to dance and dream, to live and love." Cassie's voice took on a wistful quality as she was talking. She closed her eyes and leaned back, a smile playing on her lips.

With Cassie's eyes closed, Dare took the moment to look at her, his gaze tracing the curves and lines of her face. "Love, eh?" he asked, wondering if she was speaking in generalities or specifics. She loved, he could see it in the way she danced. But which inspired which?

At his words Cassie looked at him and blushed a little. "Yes" she said simply. She hadn't known Dare long, could she trust him? Or would it be better to just stay vague and not say too much. She smiled at him. "I've known love all my life" Cassie said evasively. The way she had said it could mean several things, and she had intended it to. She meant that she had grown up in a loving home, and she had fallen in love with dancing, but also that she had found love in it's purest form, with Julius.

"Then you're very lucky," Dare said, knowing the truth of the words and meaning them. He loved his brother, loved his dad, even if they got on his nerves. His associations of the word went no farther than that, though. He loved making art, loved music, but that was entirely different. It was more of a compulsion than anything. Dare watched Cassie, watched the spread of color on her cheeks and the light in her eyes that told him she was hiding something. But he didn't ask. If she wanted him to know, she would tell him.

Cassie nodded, smiling, her eyes not really focusing on anything as she was wrapped up in thoughts of Julius for a moment, a frequent occurence. She turned her attention back to Dare. "I don't know how anyone can live without love. Though I know people do of course, it just makes everything better, colours are brighter and music is sweeter, that little bit closer to perfect" she said, hoping her flushed cheeks and cooled a little.
