There wasn't a chance in Hell that Chase was staying inside. He'd had nothing more than a glimpse of the sky through a window for weeks, and he was suffocating. Chase headed through the entrance hall at a fast clip. He was going out. Out to celebrate freedom, out to breathe.

Dru sat on the top step, just by the banister, people watching and thinking. She watched Chase, she had half a mind to just let him walk out without speaking. "Chase!" she called, quickly putting that idea to rest as she stood. Her muscles seemed to move in slow motion as she stood and walked down the stairs, one hand loosely on the rail. It wasn't even certain that he would stop, or that he would even acknowledge that she had spoken.

By the time Chase's feet stopped, he was halfway down the steps. He turned, adrenaline pulsing from the excitement of freedom, the anticipation of doing something, and his eyes caught on Dru. He'd stopped without even registering her voice. "Dru." Chase worked to catch his breath. Technically he probably shouldn't have been moving so fast while his leg was still healing, but he'd thrown aside that knowledge. He wondered if Dru would start in with the I-told-yous now and call him on it.

Dru brought her hands around in front of her, messing absently with her fingernails. It took her a minute to find her voice, and when she did it held a note of uncertainty. "So Hells finally showed up?" was the only thing she could think to say that wasn't apologizing for their last meeting or spilling the beans about Storm. She leaned gently against the banister, her eyes trailing over him.

"Yeah. I'm out," Chase said, spreading his arms, his lips curving despite what should have been a painfully awkward moment. He was ecstatic, and even standing on the steps was giving him a thrill he was sure would last weeks. Chase pulled up his shirt a bit, exposing the handle of his wand trapped in the waistband of his jeans and, unintentionally, the end of the white scar on his abdomen. "I've got my wand, still Head Boy..." He faded off. She wouldn't want to hear it, she'd want to know he'd paid some kind of consequence, something besides the scars.

A small smile pulled at Dru's lips, even when she caught a glimpse of his scar. "Oh...good," she said, though in the back of her mind she was wondering why Hells had let him off so easily. "Do you know anything about Emilian?" Her arms crossed tightly in front of her and she chewed her lip, something she had been doing a lot of lately, making it sore and a little redder than normal.

Any trace of a smile left Chase's face. Dru's posture was anything but welcoming, and he wondered what she'd stopped him for. "I haven't heard yet," he answered. He watched the path of her teeth against her lip a moment, but made no move to stop her. "When I left, the Headmistress hadn't talked to him yet." He'd be finding out with everyone else.

"Mm." Dru nodded her head slightly, and she didn't even attempt to stop her next question. "So did Storm have a chance to launch herself at you before you left?" There was no doubt in her mind that Storm would, if given the chance. The simple fact that Storm would probably be in no condition to launch herself at anyone leaving her mind.

Chase's eyes shot up to Dru's. His mind latched immediately onto the one visit Storm had paid him; he hadn't heard about her current hospital stay. "She didn't launch herself at me," Chase said. She'd ended up kissing him, but it had been soft, sorrowful. She hadn't pushed. Chase kept his face unreadable. What'd you hear? he wanted to say.

"Oh, so did she stagger out of the hospital bed and crawl after you, instead?" The emphasis Chase had put on launch screamed that Storm had done something. Dru watched him for any sign of anything that had happened, but she couldn't read him, she couldn't see anything to give anything away.

Confusion swept over Chase's face. "What are you talking about? She visited me." His mind jumped to the easiest conclusion, and confusion was replaced with insulted denial. "We did not sleep together and whoever told you that needs their ass kicked!" The irony of the words escaped him for the moment.

Dru looked away a moment at the unintended reminder. There was a second of confusion before she realized; Chase didn't know that Storm was in the Hospital wing. "She's in the Hospital wing, we met up in the Forest." She looked back up at him, wondering how he would take it. A flash of anger came over her and she didn't doubt that it showed in her eyes.

Chase blinked at the harsh look on Dru's face, in her eyes. "What do you mean, you met up?" If Dru was here, perfectly well, and Storm was in the hospital... "What happened?" It was as much demand as it was question, though likely for a different reason than Dru would think. It struck Chase that Dru was acting uncharacteristically cold, and he wondered why. Was it Storm? Was it him?

"Oh, nothing except that I was faced with every damn insecurity I've ever had about us," she answered, looking up at him. But that train of thought brought back those insecurities, so Dru went on. "Of course, then she went all psycho," she added, shrugging lightly, but cringing a little because of the mental image of that knife coming down.

She went all psycho. He didn't doubt she was capable of it; the first time he'd seen her she'd been playing sadistic little tricks on unsuspecting kids in the hallway. He'd written it off as just acting off. Are you okay? he almost asked, but it was a stupid question. He could see she was physically fine, but the coldness wasn't fading. Chase felt the awkwardness now. He didn't know what he was supposed to say or do faced with news like this. He might have pulled her into his arms, but she looked like she'd as easily hex him as let him touch her. "What happened?" he managed.
