"I was pissed and so I followed her into the forest," Dru said, knowing how hypocritical the entire situation was. "She brought up some cr-some stuff about us." She couldn't call it crap, could she? Not when Dru thought the exact same things about the relationship. "She pulled some stunt about how she couldn't attack me because I'm precious to you or some junk like that. So I started it and before I knew it I was laying on the ground after being crucioed and she was sitting over me with a knife in her gut." Dru hadn't intended for it all to come out at once, but the bare bones of the story was out before she could stop it.

Chase's disbelief flared into fury as he listened. He wanted to argue, wanted to dispute her obvious impression that he couldn't care less about her, but one thing stuck in his mind, and he couldn't let it go. "She used Cruciatus on you?" Crimson melted over the red-brown of his eyes, everything about that one statement sending warnings off in his mind. The associations with Michael, the obviousness of Storm's perfidy, and Dru was talking about it like it was nothing. Chase was one shallow breath from exploding.

"Nothing I haven't dealt with before," Dru muttered, the curse didn't bother her as much, what bothered her most had been the whole conversation leading up to the curse. That wasn't to say that there hadn't been bad memories that had come with the pain, and she avoided his eyes so that it wouldn't show.

Chase nearly snorted with disbelief at that statement. "Oh, so being crucio'd is nothing now. Dru, wake up! What's wrong with you?!" Chase caught Dru's shoulders and shook her lightly, just trying to get her attention. He wanted some kind of reaction, some sign that she there was something left besides a shell. At this point, he'd even welcome the disapproving schoolmarm back.

"Do you have any idea what she said to me?" Dru asked, looking up at him. "My personal favorite was when she called me naive and then asked if there was any motivation behind it when you touch me. Now isn't that something a girl loves to hear." She knew, deep down, that Storm had just been trying to hammer the wedge in even farther, but when the same thoughts had crossed her own mind it was hard to ignore.

"She's psychotic," Chase argued. "Whatever she meant by that, just forget it." What motivation did he need? Dru knew he wanted her, she'd turned him down enough when he tried to initiate. Chase looked into Dru's eyes, trying to figure out why Storm's words bothered her so much, since he could tell it did.

Forget it. Not, that's stupid, not anything to even imply that he thought otherwise. "Now see, back when you told me about you and her, she came to the club. And in the forest she reminded me of something she had said. One falter in your relationship, and I'll fight harder than before." It wasn't the exact reason it bothered her, but it was a sore point. It made Dru even more self-conscious of everything that wasn't going right.

Chase could tell that there was something he'd missed, something Dru wasn't saying, but she'd moved on, and he followed, not willing to dredge up whatever it was Dru didn't want to talk about. "She hasn't come after me, if that makes you feel any better." Somehow he knew it wouldn't. "She came to see Emilian as much as me." Why did he feel like he was on trial here?

Dru snorted, "She'll come after you, she knows I'm insecure." She leaned back farther on the rail, putting more weight on it. "She knows that we're barely making it as it is." Her eyes fell from Chase's, wondering if he'd just try to blow that off just like he usually did.

Chase sensed the trap in that statement and tried to sidestep it by ignoring it. He went back to the one he thought he could answer. "It doesn't matter if she does decide to come after me, it won't work." With everything Dru had said about their fight, he had no interest in Storm. She'd flipped, completely flipped.

Dru looked up at him again, Chase's words meant something to her, even if she knew that his feelings for her hadn't changed. "So...." she paused, wanting to ask the question, and at the same time almost afraid to hear the answer. "Do you know what she meant by motivation?" The way he had blew it off, it seemed obvious that he didn't. She wanted, needed to know if he felt anything for her.

He'd thought he knew what it meant, until Dru asked. She'd said something about motivation to touch her, hadn't she? It felt like a trick question. The answer as he knew it was obvious; he wanted Dru, so he was motivated to touch her, but he could see the expectation in her eyes, and knew there was no way it could be so easy. What did she want him to say? Chase stared at Dru a moment, trying to decide, knowing the answer was probably looking him right in the face. "What do you think she meant?" It was a cop-out, but hopefully better than flat-out admitting he was lost.

Dru chewed her lip, he didn't know what it meant, and it was an uncomfortable answer for her. She looked away from him again, "She meant emotionally. She kept going back to the fact that there's no ring, not that I'm asking for one," she clarified, glancing up at him, there was no way she wanted to be in a commitment like that. "And the non-existent love between us." The grain of the banister suddenly turned very appealing to her eyes, so much better than watching his face for a reaction.

"So? If you don't want it, what's the problem?" They were just dating, why would Storm's taunting about a ring bother Dru so much? Chase was still lost. He'd followed her implications about love, but he didn't see what love even had to do with this. He could tell that she wasn't telling him whatever it was that was so important, whatever had made those words hurt her, but couldn't for the life of him see it for himself.

"Oh, come on," Dru muttered to herself, did she have to spell it out for him? "The whole point," she said, looking up at him again. "Is that there's not really any emotional connection with us, it's all physical." At one time there had been a connection, but somewhere along the way they had lost it. At one time Dru had been falling for him, but then Storm came into the picture and it seemed like everything had went downhill since then.
