"I think you are," Mari said, nodding. "You're hot, and you're cool, too. I mean, not the same kind of cool, but still cool." If Castiel wasn't cool, then Mari wouldn't have been his friend in the first place. If his friend didn't have the confidence, then Mari would be the confidence for him.

"I'm so jealous of you and Seiji," Castiel said, looking down at his forgotten drawing. He tucked away his wallet and its contents, then sighed. "I mean, I don't like, miss Cheyenne, but I miss making out with her." He hadn't intended to tell Mari, but he couldn't keep secrets from his twin soul. "We got together a couple times this summer," he admitted. "She's not with Blake, he's with Easy Lisa."

Mari pulled his eyes back to the immediate area and down to his barely examined book. He and Seiji really hadn't done much of anything since that ball, though he wanted to. "I think that that just means you need to find someone new to make out with," he said. Maybe if Castiel had someone even just to make out with, even if it wasn't a super duper deep relationship, it would stop him from getting back with someone who'd hurt him.

"Is it bad that I miss you?" Castiel asked, looking down at his hands. He picked at his nails. "I mean... you know I love you, Kawaii-Kun, and I think it'd be weird to be like, boyfriends or something, even if Seiji wasn't here, but like... we have fun together. We had fun together." He wouldn't try to steal Mari away. Seiji was Mari's dream guy.

Mari looked up at his friend, uncertain of what to do with the sudden serious moment. "Yeah, but we're always gonna be best friends, even if that's all it is," he said. "Right? I mean, we're not gonna just stop if we both start dating people, are we?" They had fun, definitely, but he supposed he had always thought they'd both just end up dating other people.

"No!" Castiel said, glancing up. His eyes met Mari's, then dropped again. "I mean, yeah, we'll always be friends and everything, but like..." Marius couldn't have made the connection, and Castiel wasn't sure he understood it himself. "I like kissing you and stuff. It's like, really good. I mean..." He made a little half-helpless expression. "I don't know, maybe it's better because we know each other so well? I'm all confused!" And he hoped that Seiji took a long time with that book.

"I don't know, I guess like...it's easy?" But that didn't feel right. It had been easy to kiss Indigo and Seiji, too. Mari parted his lips to parrot out something else he'd heard, but quickly realized that I heard you're supposed to marry your best friend probably wouldn't help matters any, and rethought his words. "I think you'll find somebody, and they'll be awesome, and they'll make you feel even better than you felt when we kissed."

Castiel gave a watery smile, but he was marginally cheered up. "That's why I love you, Kawaii-Kun," he said, and extended his hand across the table. "Maybe I need someone who's all sunshine to my darkness, instead of like, more darkness." Because maybe just having someone to make out with hadn't been as much fun as he'd thought it would be.

Mari gave a smile in return and reached out to grip Castiel's hand. "I'm gonna be your friend for forever, and I'll be a cheerleader or a pissy girl depending on which one you need, Kurai-Kun," he promised. Most of the time, he figured his friend needed a cheerleader. "I love you, too, and I want you to be awesomely happy with someone super cool."

Castiel leaned over the table to give Mari a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, Kawaii-Kun," he said softly. "I'm going to go write, okay? You have fun with Seiji and I'll see you at supper." It didn't take long to pack up his things, and then he was off between the shelves to think.

Seiji returned with three new books, and looked unsure where to sit. He had been beside Mari before, but it looked like Castiel had left. In the end he settled beside Mari. He didn't want to appear to be snubbing him by sitting further away. "Has Castiel left?"

"Yeah, he said he wanted to go write. He said he'll see us again at supper," Mari said. The only falsehood was that Castiel hadn't said I'll see you and Seiji. He grinned and leaned to the side to gently nudge Seiji with his shoulder. "Find what you were looking for?" he asked. At least he was used to people who liked books, thanks to Castiel.

Seiji blushed. Would he ever get used to all this contact from Mari? Did he want to get used to it? "I found useful books," he said. He'd been looking for a way out of what was, for him, a very uncomfortable conversation, and he'd found that. "I hope you weren't waiting too long, and that Castiel was not offended."

Mari shook his head. "Nah, he wasn't. We talked a little, that's all, no big," he said. "I did miss you while you were gone, though." He grinned over at Seiji. It had been just a few minutes, and the conversation had been heavy, but he would be lying if he claimed there hadn't been a couple of times where his thoughts turned toward Seiji.

Seiji's cheeks heated. "I wasn't gone for long," he said. However silly it might be, the sentiment made him feel very warm. Whatever Mari might have said about Castiel's romantic abilities, his own worked perfectly well on Seiji. He suddenly remembered the night they'd met, and couldn't keep eye contact.
