"Her name is Isolde, she's a friend of ours', but we've adopted her," Michael answered. Shopping could happen after they were sure the baby was healthy and, after seeing Adara, he wasn't entirely sure the baby would be perfectly fine. "We just wanted you to look her over." Just in case, just to be sure.

She's ours, Dare wanted to correct, but satisfied himself with a sidelong glance at Michael. "Her mother was dying. Isolde was born yesterday, according to the scroll." He dug that out and offered it to Abigail. He'd been overheard enough times that he'd rather not say Adara's name out loud, but if she'd had a medical history at school, it could be important.

"Oh, of course I'll check her," Abigail said, giving the two an understanding look. She took the scroll and gasped when she saw the mother's name. When she had composed herself, she led the three to another curtained-off section. "I will return shortly," she promised.

Silver had opened his mouth to say that yes, he intended to tell his brother, but no words had actually come out. Dare and Michael had adopted a baby girl? That meant he suddenly had a neice. He swore under his breath.

Ayla reached over for Silver's hand, since he was obviously affected by the news. She was also suddenly very grateful for the calming potion she'd been given. It was easier to, of course, be calm and consider Silver. "Today's just full of surprises, then?" she guessed. Apparently they weren't the only couple getting a new kid.

Michael didn't miss the look from Dare, but, as far as he was concerned, just because they'd adopted the baby didn't mean it was any less Adara's. Maybe he just needed to hold the baby for a length of time, since he had yet to do it for any significant period of time. It was going to be a long transition, no matter how bad he felt for being so apprehensive.

It was too quiet in the hospital now, and Silver had latched onto something besides his own unbelievable drama. Namely that he hadn't had any idea that his brother and his brother-in-law had been considering adoption. Didn't that stuff take months or years to set up? "Did you see what it looked like?" he whispered. All he'd really seen was a blanket.

Ayla shook her head. "No, just looked like a blanket or somethin'," she said. She glanced back through the curtain, but the professors were gone. "Do you want to go see him?" It would be understandable if Silver wanted to go see the new baby. Maybe even she kind of wanted to see the kid, maybe it would help a little to see a baby. Weren't girls supposed to have some kind of affinity for babies?

"Him? I thought it was a her." He apparently hadn't been paying enough attention, and he peeked out of the curtain again, discouraged when he didn't see anything. Then he glanced back at Ayla. "Why? Do you want to go with me?"

Ayla raised her eyebrows, then shrugged. "Well, whether I marry you or not, I'm kinda a part of the family, right? She squeezed Silver's hand briefely. "I don't think I"ve ever seen a, like, real baby, one that's just been born." Weren't they supposed to be a funky shape and be a weird color or something?

Whether I marry you or not. He certainly hoped she would. That sounded a lot better than being laughed at. "Okay, let's go see it then." Silver would have far preferred to hide out and wait for his brother to leave, but this wasn't going to blow over, and Ayla had expressed an interest. Or something. That calming potion had really done a number on her.

Ayla felt much more like her normal self now, though a slightly peppier version of her normal self. "C'mon, then," she said, standing. After a moment's thought, she leaned in to take a quick kiss. "Hey, thanks for not like, runnin' off when we found out." She didn't think Silver was that kind of person, but it was still nice.

"I wouldn't do that," Silver said. "Thanks for like, not hating me or something." And for not even considering killing it. He reached for her hand and tried to absorb some of her Gryffindor courage. They were both going to need it.
Silver was visibly anxious as they left the privacy of their curtained-off area and approached the other. He took a deep breath before pushing aside the curtain enough to look in. "So when were you going to tell me you had another kid?" he asked, as though he didn't have any secrets just then.

Dare looked up at the sound of his brother's voice. He really shouldn't have been surprised that word had traveled so fast. "It was kind of a deathbed request," he said. "We don't even have anything for her yet. It was, what, a few hours ago?" he asked Michael.

"Just a little earlier today," Michael said, nodding. "We haven't had her long enough to tell anyone." It was a very small number of people who knew, though it wouldn't take long for the whole school to know. Dare had introduced her to the twins, but that was more or less it.
