"Oh! Sorry," Castiel said, his goth facade forgotten for hearing that. "My dad died when I was a kid. I don't have any aunts, though. Well, except through my stepdad." And he didn't count that because then Mari would be his cousin, and he'd rather not go into all that.

Ayla shrugged and looked off down the empty corridor. "My aunt and uncle were good, are good, I guess. They let me do a lot of what I want, but I wanna get out, you know? Wanna see the world and travel, do my own thing." She'd gone so far as to get pictures taken by Lyric in Hogsmeade, but she hadn't been able to do much else than send a couple inquiries.

"Me too, that's why I'm here," Castiel said. Well, that and Mari, but Mari wasn't here right now. Castiel felt a little twinge of guilt for that thought, then let it go. "I guess you don't think London's cool, if everyone goes there, but it's so different from Florida. And Hogwarts! My old school was boring. I've never even seen a castle except in pictures."

"There's castles everywhere here," Ayla said. "The town I grew up in was started in like 1300 and there's an old castle and church. My house is from the 1700s." She'd heard that anything older than like fifty years old was old in America, and that just seemed odd to her. "Practically all of the Kingdom is covered in old ruins and stuff."

That delighted Castiel, and the spark of interest was back in his eyes. "The 1700s, really? Don't houses like, start falling apart after a while? We have a Victorian, but it's all held together with magic." Otherwise, he was sure the roof would have fallen in like one of his Muggle-born friends' house. It was only twenty years old!

Ayla's eyebrows came together and she shook her head. "Not if it's kept up. I 'eard someone say houses in the states are made all from wood. Most things here's stone, it stays better. As long as it's kept up it'll stay fine. Since we're magic, we don't have to worry about updating much, too." She'd heard right horror stories of muggles trying to fit electricity and things in their old houses.

Castiel had seen houses with stone visible, but he'd thought it was decorative. There was brick too, but yes, a lot of wood. He guessed that made sense. "My school was only built in like 1850, so your house is way older than it." His was built sometime the same century, but he hadn't had any History of Magic quizzes about it. "Have you always been at Hogwarts?"

"Aye," Ayla said, nodding. "There wasn't much arguing about it, I never realized I could go to a different school until people started popping up here in the middle of term. My aunt and uncle went here and I think my mum did, too. Why'd you move here?" she asked, eying him. She'd heard about every reason imaginable for moving during her years at Hogwarts.

"My friend's mom got a job in London and decided to drag him all the way to Europe," Castiel said, conveniently skipping phrases like other half and twin soul. "I always wanted to go to Europe, so I talked my mom into it." And he hadn't wanted to leave Mari. Oh, Mari! Off with only Indigo to comfort him! "I still need to see France, but that wizard bus doesn't go there."

"You'll have time, the summer's long. Sometimes the school sponsors trips, too. We've gone to a couple of resorts and there's usually something fun to do for at least a week or two during the summer," Ayla said. "I mean, if you stay here over the break, anyway. Some people go home, but a lot stay here. Why you wanna see France, anyway?"

Castiel was torn between waxing poetic about France and asking about school-sponsored trips and resorts. There was a moment of exquisite distress before he decided not to be rude by ignoring her question. "France is beautiful, and Paris! La Musée du Louvre and La Tour Eiffel, Carcassonne and Avignon, Versailles! It's an artist's dream and a poet's muse!" And if that last wasn't from one of his poems, he'd be writing it down.

Ayla stared blankly at Castiel. "Right, how could I forget? I just know Paris is one of the biggest places for modeling. You know, fashion and s~," she said. She was far from ready to travel like that, but she at least knew where to aim for in the future. Finding a legit place to work in London first was what she needed to do. And now her mind was distracted, off thinking about the portfolio she had tucked away in her dorm.

Fashion. And s~. Castiel could very well have gone on, but he knew that look, and he knew disinterest when he heard it. Still... "You're a model?" That changed things maybe a little bit. She was pretty, and she had a nice mouth and thick hair. He didn't know what someone with tattoos modeled, though. Easy Broom Rider?

"No," Ayla said, eying him all over again. She hadn't told much of anyone about her ideas, her aunt and uncle didn't seem very supportive of it. Her eyes darted away when she spoke again. "May be trying to get my foot in the door, though." Trying and not exactly succeeding very much just yet, but at least it was a start.

"Maybe," Castiel echoed. "You're pretty enough. I could see you in Cauldron. You want to do fashion modeling?" Maybe he was getting at something, and maybe he wasn't, but it wasn't a stretch to think of, now that she'd mentioned it. She wasn't willowy runway material, but no one liked looking at those wraiths in actual print anymore.
