Dare flicked a glance back at Matthew. It was one thing opening up to someone, but quite another discussing things with someone else hovering on the edges. He busied himself for a moment with Lestat. A gentle tug on the bottle, however, assured him that the baby was not actually asleep, as he began sucking away again, albeit slower now.
"He didn't seem that way at first," Dare said, though on thinking back, perhaps he just hadn't realized the extent of it. He shook his head. That was way too much to talk about right now. "How's Alistair doing?" he asked instead, looking aside at Rhys. Maybe another time.

Rhys gave a little nod before glancing back down at the baby. "Think he's about done. Which one's older?" he asked. They were twins so it couldn't be more than a few minutes' difference between them, but the pair of twins he had actually known had made it a point to argue over which was the eldest.

"Alistair," Dare said, gesturing with a light nod of his head. "We didn't even know we were having twins. The Healer thought her tests were messed up because of Michael, you know, being a guy, but it turns out twins just run in my family. Silver and I are twins, our dad's a twin." He shrugged. It was still hard to accept, but it had to be weirder for Silver, who now had to deal with a new age and birthday.

"That's an impressive record," Rhys said. "You guys going to have any more later?" He knew people that were unsatisfied until they had a veritable team of children. Somehow, he didn't think Dare was one of those people. And it was all-around safer to ignore the mention of Michael carrying the twins.

Dare shook his head. "No clue," he said. "I didn't expect to have any for another decade, at least." And here he was, putting the decision about having the twins on Michael, when he'd just told him that they weren't a gift, that he didn't owe anything for them. Well, the latter was true. He managed to detach the bottle from Lestat's mouth and set it aside. "I love the twins, I do... I guess no one's ever really ready for kids, right?"

"People think they are, but I don't think most get it until they've got some screaming baby waking them up in the middle of the night," Rhys said, mirroring Dare. No, he didn't have personal experience but he had heard stories. Oh he had heard stories. "I'd guess that you're going to be a great dad, though."

Dare's lips quirked slightly, but he wasn't all that sure. He didn't want to be at home every night taking care of kids, he wanted to be out living, the same thing he'd wanted back when Michael had brought all this up. He'd been all for rushing into a relationship with Michael, all for speeding ahead into marriage, and that was as far ahead as he'd thought. "Thanks," he said.
"What about you? You're Michael's age, you're good with kids. You thought about it, any?" Maybe he'd get all paternal in the next few years, he didn't know.

Rhys smiled and looked down at Alistair before giving an almost shy shrug. "I don't know for sure. I'd like to...foster or adopt someday. Or...I don't know, I might be more help to more people just keeping up the volunteering." He also knew that, as far as he could tell, Matthew wasn't really interested in kids. "If you ever need any help, I'll give you a hand," he offered.

Dare shrugged. "Good luck," he said. "Michael's got kids all day..." And there was an argument he'd lost in the end. "Anyway, I hope I haven't kept you from anything." He settled Lestat in the stroller to sleep off his lunch, then gestured for Rhys to do the same. "We ought to all go out again some time. Drop me an owl, or have Matthew owl me anyway. That and the volunteering."

"Oh, you're fine," Rhys said, then put Alistair beside his brother. "I'll get in touch with you, definitely. I go every Saturday to the one shelter, so whenever you have a couple hours free is good with me." If Dare showed up with him, the people that ran the shelter wouldn't mind the sudden additional helping hand, though they typically preferred that people signed up.

"Awesome, I'm in," Dare said. He'd tell Michael he had plans next Saturday, and he couldn't see that being a problem. Their Fridays out had been irregular at best for months, and not one of them since before the twins were born had ended with an inability to get up in the morning. It was a shame in his opinion, but this could end up being a silver lining. "It was nice talking to you." Dare made his goodbyes, then headed out.

Matthew watched as Dare left, then circled around the counter to pull Rhys up. "I swear, you and kids," he teased. "And people, you're too popular." No. He wasn't jealous. He was better than he used to be, mostly because of Rhys' careful help. His arms circled around Rhys.

Rhys rolled his eyes and settled his arms on Matthew's shoulders. "I can't help it I'm awesome," he said. He tilted his head up and took a slow kiss. "At least you don't have to hear me talking about the other guys I've slept with every other day." He grinned, but his eyes dared Matthew to say something about it.

"Okay, okay. Fair enough. I don't really mind you making friends, I'm not completely horrible. But..." Matthew paused, unsure if it was the right time to ask. "I mean, are you really considering kids?" He had never really thought about kids and so they were far from the top of his list of things to do before he died.

Rhys laughed lightly, "Not any time soon. I'm not even ready to move in yet, much less talk about kids." At Matthew's continued worried expression, he laughed again and pressed a short kiss to Matthew's lips. "I'm not going to make you have kids, I promise." His priority right now was deciding whether or not to move in with Matthew, not growing a nonexistent family.
