"Oh wow, yes," Dare said. Then he wouldn't have to deal with that mop thing, which he couldn't see the point of, and maybe he could really make a difference. "So what do you talk about? Like, how to deal with stuff, or just life, or what? I don't know how much of the crap I dealt with can translate for Muggles." Though he always had Markise's story. He'd have to drop Markise an owl some time and see how he was doing.

"Whatever they need," Rhys said. "Sometimes they just need someone to listen, sometimes they need to know that we've been through some of the same things they've been through. Sometimes they just want to talk about music or clothes or tell jokes. They'll come in bruised, hungry, they just need someone that gets it a little." The more successful people the kids met that had been through similar things, the better.

"Right," Dare said. "Well, just let me know when and I can meet you here, or outside the Leaky Cauldron. Weekends are the best." He shrugged. "We can work it out later..." He was distracted by Lestat's sudden fussing, and though he didn't have his watch on him, he could hazard a guess what time it was. He dug into the diaper bag and pulled out two bottles, both filled and kept warm for the trip.
"Want to feed him?" Dare asked, gesturing lightly at Alistair. The twins weren't holding up their own bottles yet, but they were getting close. Lestat kept grabbing at his, so Dare picked him up first.

Matthew cringed a little before he could get himself under control, and figured it best to remove himself from the situation. "No offense, Dare, but I'm not much of a kids person." He stole a quick kiss from Rhys and stood, heading to the counter to do more preparatory work. More or less everything was set up, but it always seemed he could find something that needed done.

Rhys watched Matthew leave, a small smile playing on his lips before he nodded at Dare. "I never had siblings, but I took care of a few cousins often before dad found out about me," he said. He hadn't been old enough to be left alone with the young relatives, by any means, but he had been trusted enough to watch them with parents out of sight.

"It's not hard," Dare said, offering the other bottle to Rhys. "Just don't drop him or I'll have to kick your ass." It was an emptier threat than either Rhys or Matthew knew, but he didn't feel like clarifying. Still, he gave a teasing wink as he settled Lestat back against one arm and held the bottle up for him. Bubbles came up immediately and fiercely as the baby began to drain it.
"I've got Silver, he's Head Boy up at the school." Dare paused momentarily before going on, unsure about how to say the rest. "We're too close in age for me to have taken care of, though." Even closer than he would have imagined. He didn't want to get into his family politics, though. Keith and Matthew had issues with Purebloods, and he hadn't ever brought it up.

"I always thought it'd be fun to have a brother or a sister," Rhys said, then he shrugged as he continued. "Who knows, maybe with me long gone my parents will try for another. How did you two end up here?" He seriously doubted that his parents would even be able to have another kid if they tried, but he supposed anything was possible, and there was always adoption. He settled Alistair a little more comfortably as he gave him the bottle. Once it was figured out, he allowed himself to glance back at Matthew. He was definitely not used to having Matthew in the same room but far away from him.

"It's a long story," Dare said. "Short version is my dad's from England, and when Mom died in 5th Year we moved out here. Went to his alma mater and everything. But I'd have never met Michael if we'd stayed in California, so I guess it worked out." He couldn't look at Rhys and say the words, but he could look down at Lestat. The twins could be the best parts of both of them, and he certainly hoped it would turn out that way.

"I'm sorry about your mum," Rhys said, forcing his attention back to Dare. "There are silver linings in the most unexpected places, though." His lips curved and he couldn't help another glance toward Matthew. He couldn't quite say that his own silver lining was worth all the torment, but it certainly made it all more bearable. "How did the two of you meet?"

There was a more interesting story. "It was his last year at Hogwarts, and I'd just transferred, so I was in a bad place, you know?" He watched Lestat, who stared up at him like it was nothing. It was unnerving sometimes, but comforting, too.
"We're both into art, so when we ran into each other, we went off to draw and just bullsh~, but we ended up really talking. He told me he was a Death Eater," he went on, glancing over at Matthew, "that he'd quit years ago. When we talked, about everything came out. Then I tried to kiss him." Tried being the operative word.

Death Eater. Rhys didn't know that one. For all the things he had bugged Matthew for information on, wizarding history was definitely not one of them. "Death Eater doesn't sound like a good thing," he said. He glanced over at Matthew, but with no hints coming from that direction he focused on Dare. "But if you tried to kiss him anyway..."

"It's not a good thing," Dare said. "It's... Michael teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts, and he's really good, because he's been on both sides. He used to be the guy he's teaching kids to defend themselves against. But he gave himself up, couldn't do it anymore. That's a long story all on its own." And it was very public, or he wouldn't be sharing it.
"Anyway, I was confused. I had a lot on my mind and I just... tried to kiss him. He bolted, then the next time we saw each other it clicked. Things sort of fell into place after that."

Rhys made a mental note to ask Matthew to explain the whole Death Eater issue to him later, though Rhys found it hard to imagine the timid Michael as anything other than he had been when they'd met. "Why'd he run? I mean," he glanced over at Matthew, then grinned and leaned a bit closer to Dare to whisper. "I mean, if I were single and you tried to kiss me I definitely wouldn't run off."

Dare broke into a grin as well, and though heat blossomed on the back of his neck, he chuckled at that easy flirtation. He also kept his gaze well away from Matthew. "Guess I was just overwhelming," he teased back. "But really? He'd never been with a guy before. He'd never really wanted to be with a guy before. He had this friend who'd tried, pushy bastard, but he'd been straight his entire life, so he had to think about it. Next time we ran into each other, he kissed me." And as first kisses went, it was one for the books.

"Yeah? Nice going. No offense, but if I'd met the two of you separately I never would have paired you," Rhys said. He wondered if it was as strange to people that knew the couple, or even nearly as strange. "He just seems much more...unsure than you are." Of course, Rhys had never imagined himself ending up in a relationship like he and Matthew had, either.
