"What's a telly?" Dare asked. "Is that like a tellyphone?" He gave a bit of a shrug and flicked his wand. The teether remained exactly the same, but the twins squealed the moment they realized he'd turned his hair a vibrant red instead. "Oh damn, how did that happen?" Dare teased. He shook his head, showing off the red for the fun of it.

"Hell if I know, it's a box that plays pictures," Matthew said, shrugging. Okay, so maybe he knew a bit more than he used to about muggle things. Okay, a lot more. He had been dating Rhys for long enough that he knew about as much as any wizard could know, even if he had no idea how it all worked.

"Television, TV, whate-" Rhys was stopped before he could explain by the sudden unexpected change of Dare's hair. "Seriously? You mean that your hair isn't dyed?" That seemed like it would be so much easier, so much less of a hassle. Not that he had ever had the urge to dye his own hair, but he had helped others do theirs and, needless to say, many shirts and towels had been ruined by a slippery bottle.

"I teach Transfiguration," Dare said, bringing his wand back up. "That's turning something into something else. There are limits to magic, it can't do everything, but it can do a hell of a lot." The red began to drip down, his preferred colors reappearing from the roots and washing back toward the tips. "Michael teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts, which is fighting against Dark magic and self-defense."

"Yeah? I'd kill to see your school," Rhys said, glancing over at Matthew. Not for the first time he wondered how the man had ended up in the middle of a group of friends that had so many teachers in it. "Did you always want to be a teacher?" He couldn't exactly compare Dare's skills with anyone else's, but he didn't think anyone would be a teacher without considerable thought.

Dare shook his head. "Hell no," he said. "I wanted to make art for a living, but about the time I was graduating I decided I'd go crazy stuck at home all day. The Transfiguration professor was leaving to have a baby and when I told her I was into it, she recommended me. I was lucky, the Headmistress doesn't hire a lot of people right out of school.
"And don't get your hopes up seeing it," Dare went on. "It's Unplottable. You'd just see ruins and a no trespassing sign, then remember something you needed to do. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news."

Rhys sighed and shrugged. "I'm lucky to even be seeing all of this," he said. "Do you still do art? I'm no good at anything creative." Why did it not surprise him that Dare had originally wanted to make art? He was glad to be having the opportunity to talk to the man, since they hadn't had the chance so far.

"Yeah," Dare said. "In my free time, mostly. Middle of the night sometimes." Getting a snack and going back to sleep just hadn't been working lately. "Painting, drawing, ceramics, pretty much anything really. So what were you doing before the shop? I mean, besides putting everyone to shame volunteering with the needy and impressionable," he added with a quirk of the lips.

Matthew grinned and ran a hand through Rhys' short hair. "When we first started going out it was near impossible to get him away from all that extra work he did," he said. At least now he understood it a little. He also doubted that Rhys would give up his volunteer work even when he decided to move in. Matthew refused to consider that Rhys might not ever want to move in.

"I can't help it! It makes me feel good to help out. I just worked at a little shop in London close to my apartment. They sold a little bit of everything, it was owned by an older couple." Rhys had enjoyed working at an independent store and loved meeting all the interesting people that walked through. He had been sad to leave and told the couple he would be sure to visit.

"No, it's awesome," Dare told Rhys. "Seriously, if I had time I'd love to do something like that." He just had so much energy, and it seemed like nothing was enough to get it out. This wasn't the time or place to think about that, though. He shook his head at himself. "If I had time, I'd want to do everything," he admitted with a wry smile. He was too young to sit at home when there was so much to see and do.

"I guess kids don't give you a ton of free time," Rhys said. "But you know, if you want to try, I mean I've got plenty of connections and everyone's always looking for help." There was never enough help, and even people that could only come in half an hour or an hour a week, or a day or two a month, were appreciated.

"Yeah, go ahead and hook me up," Dare said. He glanced at Matthew. "Think I'll survive doing everything the Muggle way?" he asked. He knew how, at least, but his charms had been slowly improving, and there were a lot of things he was doing with magic now. Maybe the physical act of doing things would be enough to help.

Matthew laughed, "Yeah, good luck. He dragged me to this one shelter once and I was completely lost. I mean, the people were great and the kids there needed the help but hell, I don't know how to work a muggle...what's it called? A mop?" He glanced over at Rhys for confirmation.

"Come on, that's not hard. You dip it in the water and you rub it on the floor. Seriously, Matt," Rhys said, rolling his eyes. "You'd be fine, Dare. The one I go to most is this homeless LGBTQ teen shelter. It's...it's tragic, but they need all the help they can get. Even if all you can do is sit and talk with the kids it helps." As much as Rhys loved Matthew, the guy wasn't exactly the best role model for troubled teens and had been sent to do other work.
