Ariel's teeth crunched together with the hit and he slid off sideways, momentarily dazed as an instant headache took over. He shook his head roughly and tried to force unfocused eyes to settle on Maverick. "You bastard!" he said as he regained his balance. "You were all I f~ing had! Not that BYOB parties are any place for a ten year old, anyway. How many times was I banished from my own bed because one of your friends had taken over with some whore? Huh?" He lunged again.

Maverick had pushed himself up to at least sitting by the time Ariel was on him again. At least he could deflect the momentum a little and avoid being tackled completely again. "The hell are you blaming me for? Our dear father's the one that left me with you," he said. He had always disliked the man, and had been looking forward to moving out once he was seventeen, only to be held back by Ariel. This time, he moved to have the upper hand so he could get a few hits in himself.

Ariel ignored the slight coppery taste in his mouth in face of more blows from Maverick. "You coulda left!" he managed as he scrambled to a low position on his own feet and tried to avoid as much as possible while looking for a time he could regain control. It was much harder to concentrate with Maverick on the offensive. "Coulda give me up! Coulda give me up after!"

Maverick snorted and shook his head. "And give up a good maid, a good tester? Give me a break," he said with a crooked smirk. He flicked a glance over to be sure the other one was still in no shape to fight back. "Already gave him one," he added, then stood. "Come on," he said. "Hit me. Stand up and fight like the man you wish you were."

Ariel's eyes narrowed after they moved over Markise before sliding back to his brother. His hand slid to his wand, though he didn't draw it as he stood. He hunched to one side and his elbow tucked into that side, where Maverick had focused most of his attention. He was silent for some long moments before he jumped again to topple his brother to the floor and aim his wand at the bastard's throat. "I don't need you to tell me what I wish," he growled.

Maverick held his hands out to the side, knowing Ariel would waste no time or guilt in shooting whatever spell was on the tip of his tongue. "What're you gonna do?" he asked. "In front of all these people?" Not that there were too many watching, and fewer that cared at all. "Sounds like the coward's way out, to me. Hell, you even used him, figures."

Markise didn't remember fading out, but he must have, since he felt like he was waking up now. He was drowsy, and he ached badly. His head was throbbing, and when he tried to breathe, he winced. Still, he forced his eyes open, unsure where he was.
It took some moments before things began to filter into his mind, but he thought he'd heard Ariel, and he slowly began to take stock of himself and move. He nearly cried when he saw the deep red staining the front of the vest he'd worked so hard on, and he fumbled in his pocket for a handkerchief to mop up his face, still confused.

Ariel couldn't miss the movement of Markise, and he glanced over to see him waking up. His eyes swung back to Maverick. His empty hand took a fistful of fabric and he leaned into it. "He did that because he loves me," he said through clenched teeth. "Something you'll never understand. I'd feel sorry for you if I didn't hate you so much." His wand dug into the soft part of Maverick's neck.

"Don't make me sick," Maverick replied. He loves me. Ugh, that sent a chill down his spine. "I'd feel sorry for you if you weren't such a f~y failure." He hated this, and now so many people had irrefutable proof that they were related, something he had been denying for so long. "You don't even have the balls to use that wand."

Markise had staggered to his feet, and when he was sure of his footing, headed to the nearby bar. He had a one-track mind right now, and that was to stop Maverick from hurting Ariel any more than he had. He gazed bleary-eyed at the items within reach, mentally weighing the damage and whether or not he could bear to actually attack someone with a broken bottle, which was something you were supposed to do in bar fights, right?
There was no way in hell.

Ariel's eyes darted to Markise and followed him between glancing back at Maverick as he thought. Then his eyes settled on Maverick one last time. "Accio Maverick's wand," he said, pulling his hand from Maverick's shirt. "You're the failure," he continued, and when the wand flew into his waiting hand he pulled up his other and snapped the cool wood between them.

There wasn't time for Maverick to react before his wand was in two pieces and rage flooded him. His face darkened and his expression hardened and he moved, roughly throwing Ariel away from him before finding his way on top of him and focusing all of his anger into messing up that so familiar face, yelling curses as he did.

Someone had vacated the barstool next to Markise and gave him an expectant look. He couldn't sit down, though, not with Ariel pinned to the ground like he was. He absently debated, and after a moment it clicked. He set his bloody handkerchief on the counter, lifted the stool up, and approached Maverick from the back. If he could just lift the stool high enough... He dropped the stool with enough force that he nearly toppled.

Ariel could taste more in his mouth now and his lip was throbbing, his right ear was full and ringing and his left eye felt heavy. He had known that would pull a reaction, but he hadn't expected it to be this bad. He didn't see Markise coming, he just felt his brother collapse on top of him, nearly knocking the air out of him. It took a few moments of looking around, blinking, to realize what must have happened. He pushed against Maverick, unsure if the guy was out or just severely dazed.

Markise blinked down at Maverick, surprised to see that he had, indeed, stopped. Then his gaze swung to Ariel, and his brows drew together. "You're hurt," he said. He stumbled over Maverick and got to his knees, forgetting the blood on his blood-and-dirt-stained clothes. He couln't breathe through his nose, but neither could he see the bruising stretching upward into his eyes.
