Markise's jaw dropped in offense, no matter that he'd expected worse than an elbow to his side. His hand lowered to hover over his wand pocket as he glared at the back of Maverick's neck. "You're the dill that's standing in the only way from Diagon Alley to London," he pointed out, his voice firming, but keeping its feminine tones. "If you don't want to see us, close your f~ing eyes."

Ariel reached out to push Maverick to the side, away from them. "Don't talk to him like that," he said to Maverick as Markise spoke, then nodded his agreement. "Besides, he's got a hell of a point, you know? It's not like I've never seen you half f~ing girls back home before." It was about time Maverick was repaid. "Now, get away from him," he said, giving a shove to get the guy out of his way so he could get beside Markise.

Maverick stiffened at being pushed by Ariel, however light it might have been. "You know better than to do that, baby brother," he said, voice low. "Besides, you're missing a very important detail there: I was f~ing who I was supposed to f~. You apparently never figured out where the hell it goes."

That infuriated Markise as much as it terrified him. This was dangerous, and it didn't matter if the attack had been years ago, it was as vivid as it had ever been. The parts he remembered, anyway. But this was Ariel.
He drew his wand, and his voice dropped into masculine danger. "Leave him the g~damned hell alone," he said, raising his wand. His voice softened again for effect. "Just because the only girls that'll f~ you don't mind a blast-ended skrewt with a d~ like a flobberworm as long as they get free ink doesn't make you better than him. You'll never get anyone as good as me, but I guess when you're a drunk you don't mind the scrape of a couple crooked teeth."

Ariel's eyes widened in surprise at Markise. "Markise," he breathed sharply. No matter what he wanted to say to Maverick it was entirely different having Markise say them. But before he could say anything or move between the two of them time slowed.

Maverick nearly growled at that, and he took quick steps forward toward Markise. "I'd rather there be crooked teeth than another wand in the mix," he said, actually growling the words this time. He reached for his own wand to point it at Markise's chest. Everyone in the room knew better than to come to him when he was mad.

Markise's wand was already up, and though inside he was trembling, he kept it up. "Leave me alone," he said softly. He was terrified, and it likely showed, but if there was anyone who deserved this, it was Ariel's a~hole brother. He used the zapping spell, and he meant it.

Ariel was already on his way to pushing Maverick out of the way when he realized Markise was performing a spell. He didn't know what the spell was, but he had a nagging feeling that it could only be one spell. He didn't want to find out, but he was too far into the near-tackle to pull out now.

The spell hit, and it hurt like hell. And Ariel hit, and Maverick's shoulder hitting the rough wood of the floor hurt like hell. He wanted to bash that queen's face in for hitting him with that spell, but Ariel was wrestling to take his wand away and that took first priority over everything else.

Ariel couldn't remember the last time he had had a fight with his brother, at least like this. The wand had to go, no matter that he could take his brother in a duel. Fist meeting the jerk's face would be so much more satisfying. He heard the wand skid away, and his attention moved to wrenching his brother's arm. "I told you to get away from him."

"Get the hell off me," Maverick said, adding a few choice insulting names to the end. He wasn't about to get beat up by his little gay brother in his own bar. How had he ended up on his stomach? Well, his wand was out of arm's reach, he had to twist around and pull his arm from Ariel's hands. He knew what he was going to do, but Maverick wasn't going to let him take advantage of a bad shoulder.

And Maverick was facing him. He grabbed wrists attached to arms stronger than his own. "The only good thing you ever did to me was bring me to this godforsaken country," he said in a rush in the moments he had control. His hands slipped from the wrists and knuckles aimed for the man's jaw.

Maverick avoided the fist and pushed, far from enjoying being straddled by Ariel, to get his brother off of him. "You're f~ing useless, always were," he said as he leaned to dig an elbow into Ariel's side. "Be better off if I never saw you again." It went past dislike straight into hate.

Ariel jerked with the elbow and pulled away to settle low and tense facing the one that had raised him. "You know," he said, breathing heavily from the jab to his side. "You're in luck, 'cause you won't. We're moving to the states, and you'll never have to see your queer brother again." There was so much he wanted to say, but he had no idea if he would have the chance.

Maverick let out a bark of a dry laugh. "Good riddance!" he said. "Maybe your portkey'll drop you in the ocean on the way over there." He pushed himself up and dusted off his pants. He pointed down at Ariel, "You're nothing, always have been, always will be, I won't miss you." Then he turned his head to look for his wand.
