Brindle had frozen at the momentary touch, something she most definitely was not used to. Then, even as she'd looked up at Leo, she had not only defrosted, but nearly melted. The sudden loss of that touch was both a relief and a shame, and she was left strangely confused. For that moment she couldn't think to speak.

"So," Leo started when Brindle went quiet. "What house are you? I don't remember ever seeing you, and I'm sure I would remember." Which meant she probably wasn't in his house or year. He wasn't exactly in the middle of the social loop, he didn't know too many people, but he recognized plenty of faces.

Brindle breathed, and pulled herself out of whatever nonsense had been going on. On her side, at least. Calm down, she told herself. He was cute, but he was just a boy. He wasn't even flirting with her. "Gryffindor," she answered. "And you must be in Slytherin. Either that or you like hiding around in dark, windowless places."

"Maybe I do like hiding around in dark, windowless places," Leo said, grinning and looking over at her. He wasn't exactly the king of flirting, he wasn't at all sure what he was supposed to be doing. "You'll just have to hang out with me and find out." He wasn't thinking about what he was doing, he hadn't crossed any lines, not that he was all that worried about crossing them.

Brindle's lips spread into a broad grin despite her best intentions, and it took her a moment to fight them back down into just an overly-friendly smile. "I'd like that," she said, firmly ignoring the slightly breathy tone to her voice. She was going to enjoy this and she could berate herself for losing her mind later. "Where do you hang out?" she asked. "Besides lonely, hidden corridors?" Like this one, she added silently.

"Here and there, by the lake at night," Leo said, shrugging. "There's this one spot, you can look out over the water, and it looks like you're hanging out in the middle of the sky, because the stars reflect on the water." He stopped himself there and smiled, "Sorry, I like that spot." Was it wrong to be telling Brindle about it when that was where he had brought Verity?

"Don't be sorry," Brindle said, a little light-headed from the picture he'd painted. "It sounds incredible. You'll have to show me some time." The words were hardly out before she heard herself and pressed her lips together to keep from saying more, like maybe begging him to put his hand on her back or kiss her hand again. Just the thought of that last brought a blush to her cheeks again. "I mean, if you want to."

"Yeah, I'll show you. Just tell me when," Leo said, smiling and looking over at Brindle. No, he didn't really care that he was telling Brindle when he had already taken Verity there. "I'm loving how easy it is to make you blush." He couldn't see her perfectly in this light, but a mix of what he could see and a gut feeling made it easy to think she was blushing.

Brindle's lips parted in a silent gasp. "I do not!" she said, the heat in her cheeks deepening further because she suspected that she did. She reached up to push a bit of hair back from her face and ended up catching it and sliding it through her fingers, a sad attempt to calm the sudden beat of her heart. "If you tell anyone I'll kick your ass," she said, then laughed at herself, the nerves easing a bit with the empty threat.

"I won't!" Leo said raising his hands. "I swear. It'll be my little secret." He let his hands move up and move his hair away from his face before letting them drop again. Besides, she had already proven that she could beat the crap out of him if she wanted to, so he probably shouldn't piss her off by putting up posters saying she blushed.

Brindle looked at Leo as though contemplating whether she could trust him. In reality, she was wondering if she'd already screwed up her chances with that throw. Boys didn't like girls who were better than them at things. Then why is he still talking to you? she asked herself, and answered as well. Because he's nice. And nice boys liked nice girls. Not her.
Still, her smile hadn't disappeared. She reminded herself she was just having fun. "Okay, you're safe," she quipped. Like she'd really deck someone for spreading around girly rumors. Like anyone would believe them.

"Good," Leo said, leaning to give her a light nudge with his elbow. "I don't think I want you pissed off at me." It probably wasn't good for his health, or his chances of seeing her again. If it crossed his mind that he shouldn't have been wishing to see her again, it did so quickly enough that it didn't get much thought. He was shooting from the hip, and he couldn't see any reason to stop himself.

"I'm not violent," Brindle said, unsure whether she was reassuring him or teasing. "As long as you don't sneak up on me." She tried to get hold of herself and shove down the butterflies in her stomach as she nudged him back. It was so easy, though! It couldn't be flirting because she wasn't even doing anything. Except pulling her hand back down out of her hair.

"Okay, I won't, I'll call out if I'm watching you or something," Leo teased, smiling over at Brindle. He was having fun with this, and Verity was gone from his mind and nowhere in sight. "Unless I decide for some reason I want you to lay me out again." A few choice thoughts rushed his mind at that, and he thought that maybe he wouldn't mind too much in a certain circumstance or two.

The innuendo went directly over Brindle's head, and she only laughed lightly. "Are you a masochist or what?" she asked jokingly. She couldn't think of any reason someone would want to be decked, so he could only be teasing.
