"You probably shouldn't like it too much," Leo said, though his eyes fell to his glass as he ran his finger around the edge. "I might think you're going soft on me or something." He peeked up at her through hair that fell as he gently shook his head at his behavior. He felt like a smile was permanently etched onto his lips, though for once it wasn't a sarcastic, sardonic one.

“Oh, please.” Verity said as if such a thing could never happen. She added an eye roll, but a playful smile spread across her lips. She paused for a moment, as she caught his eyes, or what she could see of them. Verity blinked, the moment passed. She looked up just as the waitress approached them again.

Had Leo imagined that? He had to have...it was over so quickly and the waitress was there. He ordered something simple that wouldn't take too much of his attention so he could still focus on Verity. This was getting more strange by the minute, though he didn't exactly mind it. It was a nice change to the way his life usually went.

Verity smiled at the waitress and ordered something light, she had been sampling new ideas for the shop the last couple of days and it had taken a toll on her appetite. "Do you come to...er" Verity paused, trying to remember where they were. "Diagon Alley often?" She asked for the sake of conversation. She couldn't bring herself to look straight at his eyes again. It wasn't that she wanted to avoid him, but she wasn't sure she could control what would happen if she did.

It took a moment for Leo's mind to catch up to what Verity was saying. When he figured it out, he shook his head. "Maybe a couple of times a month to get away from the school, when Hogsmeade doesn't cut it." Hogsmeade was great most of the time, but there were some times where it just felt claustrophobic and bland, and he had to get away.

Verity nodded. The school was hectic, especially with N.E.W.T.s approaching far too quickly. The students were either studying like mad, or denying the fact that the most important exam of the year was closer than they thought. Hogsmeade was busy, at least for her. Her regulars infested the place by night, and since it was only open from late afternoon to late-night/early morning, it was empty during the day. Verity was too lost in her thoughts to notice if anything was happening at the moment.

Leo kept the silence for a few moments before he spoke. "So what about you? What do you like to do, other than tease poor boys like me?" He flashed a smile, though he felt a little distracted. Maybe he was just waiting on the chance to catch Verity's eye again, waiting on another moment that had flashed by before the waitress had shown up again.

"As much fun as it is, teasing poor boys like you, school has been keeping me busy." Verity said. It was a boring answer, she wish she could have a more exotic and exciting answer. Maybe after this year she'd be able to find something remotely interesting to do with her life. Other thoughts about the future and other stuff Verity didn't want to have to think about floated into her mind. She pushed the thoughts away abruptly. Why did she get so easily distracted? "If it isn't school, then it's work. I work at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. Well, I guess I own it, actually." She often forgot the little piece of it. Weren't owners supposed to pay their employees to do all the work while they reaped in the benefits?

"You do?" Leo wasn't aware that the Three Broomsticks was even open again, much less that Verity owned it. "I can't imagine running a place and trying to do exam work at the same time." It would have driven him insane, probably. At the least he would have lost all his money or failed his exams. Neither would have been very good to go home to his parents about.

Verity nodded. "It keeps me busy." She said. Busy was an understatement. They were both necessary evils. She needed the shop in order to have money to pay for school, clothing, and maybe an apartment for next year when she's no longer in school. She needed school in order to be able to get a decent job or career in the next couple of years. The Three Broomsticks was just a temporary fix.

"Well, if you ever need a break, just come find me, we'll take a walk around the lake." Well, maybe not around the lake, but by the lake he could handle. Leo couldn't believe he was already thinking of regularly meeting up with her. It would be fun, a good way to get to know each other, and if anything came of it, or of this, he wouldn't complain at all.

The smile that had hardly left Verity's face during the evening just grew into a grin. It sounded absolutely perfect. She closed her eyes and pictured it. She could practically smell the water from the lake, feel the cool breeze on her face. When she opened her eyes again she found herself looking into those gorgeous eyes of his. She could feel herself slipping away, getting lost in them.

Leo found himself getting lost, as well, and then found himself speaking. "You have the most amazing eyes," he said, then flushed and dropped his eyes and took a long drink to stop himself from continuing. It was the truth, though. He had never seen eyes quite like Verity's, and the uniqueness made them all the more alluring.

Verity didn't hear what he said at first. It wasn't until he broke the gaze that she realized it. Color crept up her cheeks and she smiled. "Thank you." She said. She had eyes like her mother, the only thing about her mother that Verity could particularly remember were the ways her eyes shone. His eyes were captivating. They were warm and soft, easy to get wrapped up in. Verity didn't look up again. Partially because she didn't want him to see her blush.

And you're cute when you blush. Ah, but Leo didn't let himself say that, no matter how true it was. He couldn't let out all the cheese in one sitting. "You're very welcome," he said instead, flashing a smile as the waitress made another round. There were a ton of things he could say he liked about her, but he wasn't about to just go off and list them all out.
