"Yeah." Zilnafa laughed. She finally pulled her interest from the adorable puppy and walked toward the counter.
The green cat animal was licking it's paw and making a rough growl in its throat which Zilnafa aproximated to a purr. She scratched it under it's chin. It meow'd at her and stood, pushing it's head harder into her palm. She giggled. It's ears were flopped over like a dogs but they swivled all over it's head. She loved it and she wasn't sure if it was a boy or a girl. She checked. A girl.

Michael watched Zilly for a few long moments before he pushed himself up from the counter. "You have to be careful, these things will eat the whole bag if you're not careful. Give her a little bowlful twice a day," he said, gesturing to the little bowl in the carrier. "Make sure she can get as much water as she wants, though. You can pick out a toy or something over there." He waved his hand toward the little area filled with toys and accessories.

Zilnafa smiled at Micheal. "I'll make sure I do that." She stroked the cat. "Her name's Abla. It means wild rose."
She didn't want to leave the shop. She liked the smell and the noises the animals made and Micheal, who was turning out to be incredibly nice and understanding. She picked up Abla and stuck her under her arm scratching Abla's ears. She refocused her attention back at Micheal.
"So why are you working here?"

"I've always liked being outside and being with animals," Michael said. "When Dare and I were outed, we stayed at a friend's while he was gone, then he came back and wanted his apartment back, so we had to find something. I bought the place and we've been here ever since." A lot of drama and heartache shrunk to a very short description.

Zilnafa's eyes widen with horror. Who would kick out a friend when they were going through what Micheal and Dare must have been through? And who would out them anyway?
"I'm sorry. That sucks." Zilnafa rubbed with Abla's chin. "You shouldn't have had to go through with that. That's terrible."

Michael gave a small, almost sad smile, but shrugged. "It sucked, but it brought us together." He didn't think they would have gotten so close so quickly had it not been for all of that. They had barely been together six months when they had decided they would get married, would that have happened if they hadn't been forced into hiding?

Abla made a croaking meow and Zlinafa rubbed her ears. Abla butted her head into the palm of Zilnafa's hand. Zilnafa shook her head.
"Who outed you?" Zilnafa should eat her tongue, then her lips and then maybe her hands. She hated herself. Micheal shouldn't have to relive that. At all. She felt like a ditz, like a dope. "Sorry."

"It's fine," Michael said. "The woman that writes the gossip column in the Daily Prophet thought it necessary to tell the entire school that we were together. We didn't want to be out, but there wasn't anything we could do." The outing itself had lost its sting, though the immediate reaction of the guys in his dorm room still hurt horribly.

"Rita Skeeter?" Zilnafa had never met her but her reputation was expansive. Her tutor had met her and the story stuck was brained into her head.
It was a night when he was drinking when she showed up for her lessons. That meant it had been a bad bad day. Zilnafa knew she wouldn't have to ask, Ulan would tell her eventually.
"Ish not mey fault." he growled at her when she sat down with him. "Ish herse. Shtupid writer." He hiccuped and took a swig of whiskey. "Ihem not a drunk. Ihem relivin' my fasherss life. He wash a drunk."
He turned to her and pointed a waving swaying finger. "That Rita Shkeetahr ish a maniac. She shaid I don'tah teash you anythink. I teash jusht fiine. "
And thus that was the night she learned the basics for the Accio spell.
"That woman is a rat."

Michael shook his head, "She doesn't do much anymore. Hogwarts has its own columnist, it's been taken over by a different woman lately, though, from what I've heard. We don't buy the paper anymore, it's our little boycott." He hadn't read a Daily Prophet in months and didn't feel like starting again any time soon. If something was important enough, he would hear about it.

"Oh." Zilnafa shrugged. "She's still big in Africa. People can't get enough of her attitude."
Abla batted a paw at Elouai and growled. Zilnafa shifted out of the cats reach so Elouai wasn't in any danger.
"So. Dare and you are good?" Zilnafa was oddly curious about how relationships work; she'd never had a relationship. As pathetic at it sounded thus it was. Oh well. She'd have plenty of time with it as she grew. Besides kids and dating weren't her thing.

"We have our ups and downs, just like everyone else," Michael said, thinking back. Others' ups and downs probably weren't as dramatic as theirs were, though. "But yes, we're good. It's a pain when he has to go to class or work, though." He loved being with Dare as much as possible, and hadn't been able to get used to the serious time constraints brought on by class and work schedules.

"How do you do it?" Zilnafa had been meaning to ask for awhile but it kept slipping her head. "Like when you're at work and he's in school? How do you guys spend time with each other?"

"We catch a couple of hours at night when he gets home from work." It was never much, but they ate and tried to relax for the short amount of time before they had to sleep. "And we get most of the weekend. It's hard sometimes." It was hard a lot of the time, when he had had a bad day and just wanted Dare to come home and he had no choice other than wait for Dare to get back.

"So they let Dare come here after school?"
That sounded like a nice thing. To have some one to come home too. And someone to wait for. Someone to talk about anything with and have them listen. But then again. Having to worry about whether they come late or if they're coming at all. And what if they wanted to talk about something completely unimportant while you wanted to bare your soul. It would be bad. Maybe she wasn't the senitmental type.
