Zilnafa heard the bell ring as she entered the shop. A strong smell of hay and animal musk. She inhaled deeply enjoying the fimilar scent. She loved her stables in Africa and this though slightly different was vaugely comforting. Everything in England was so unusual.
She tilted her head and scrunched her nose and smiled at the magical animals. A rat was jump-roping its own tail. It sped up when it noticed her watching and tripped. She giggled and stuck her finger in his cage.

Michael loved his shop, with the puppies and crups in the front windows and the mix of magical and nonmagical reptiles and various furry critters that lined the walls. He loved the little displays in the middle with the little novelty pets such as pygmy puffs and the little back corner filled with accessories. He was able to enjoy it so much more now that he didn't have to worry about classes. When there wasn't a customer, he didn't have to think.
But the door opened and suddenly he wasn't alone anymore. Still, he gave an easy smile as he looked at the girl. "Hello, welcome to the shop, if there's anything you need just ask." He rarely got new customers, most of his income was from returning ones, ones that came every couple of weeks to stock up for their own pets. The ones that were new came once, sometimes not even buying something, and he never saw them again. He was just as nice to those customers as he was to his regulars, and his earthy brown eyes were warm as he greeted the girl.

She grinned at the shop keeper. She was thrilled to be here; the rat was cute but she didn't like tail. It was slightly wormy and kinda fuzzy and it just creeped her out.
"Do you have anything cat-like but not a cat?" Zinafa asked. She didn't want the normal pet but it had to pass through the inscpection at Hogwarts.

"Yes, I do," Michael said, getting off of his chair and coming to the side of the shop to his right. "These are kneazles," he gestured to a cage that had much more room in it than the exterior gave away. It was nice to be able to magically increase the size of something's interior. "There are half and halfs in the one below it. And these," he said, stepping to the side to a cage whose floor was practically writhing with kitten-sized oddly-colored cats. "Are new. I just got them a week ago.
"They're a little more expensive, but they stay this size and come in some very unique colors, both in fur and eyes. They're easy to take care of, as well." All of the animals he had bonded to him in their short stay in his shop, though there was usually one or two in each batch of smaller ones that became especially attached to him. The little one that had chosen him out of the little cats was currently off somewhere with Elouai, though, and he wasn't about to open the cage and risk them all getting loose unless the girl really wanted to see them.

Zilnafa could feel her face make a completely sappy face and deep inside herself she felt digusted but the adorable cat type animals shushed the disgust and made her croon, "Awwww."
She stuck her finger in the cage and wiggled it around. They were so cute. One a soft darker green one trotted to it. It licked her finger. Zilanfa giggled as it's scratchy bumpy tongue. Inside she hated herself, for acting like a total ditz but there was something about the animals.
"How much do they cost?" Zilnafa threw a glance at the shopkeeper. "I'll take one."

Michael gave her the price, not the most expensive in the shop but still more than kneazles and cats, or the hybrids. He opened the cage and motioned for her to take one. "I have small carriers in the back you can buy. You can get a carrier, food, and a small toy in a package. It's a little cheaper than buying them all separately." He watched the animals, knowing how easy it was for one to slip by when he had the door open.

Zilnafa grinned. She pulled out her pocket purse, something she wasn't sure if people in England carried but it didn't matter. She was charged. This would be the one part of her life here in England and at Hogwarts that would keep her steady. She'd already been picked on enough there. She hadn't owled Jory yet. She'd heard he was busy. But now of course with this...cat-like animal, it'd be different. Zilnafa felt her happy high edge out of her blood system.
She turned to the shopkeeper and smiled. "I have to run to Gringotts, I'll be right back. Sorry."

Michael nodded, "That's fine. Just pick out the one you want and I'll get it ready for you." It was very rare that someone left for good after choosing something to buy, so it was easy for Michael to accept and believe that she would have to come back. "Watch out on your way back in, though, my dog will probably be coming back down any moment." And Elouai was very interested in strangers.

"Dog?' Zilnafa glanced around. "You have a dog? Where?"
Zilnafa loved cats; she really did. She had a love/hate relationship with dogs. She loved them but they tended to...nip lovingly at her ankles. She didn't mind not really. But sometimes they took it alittle too far. She had the scars to prove it.
"Is it a nice dog?"

"Yes, she's nice, she's playing with a pygmy puff and one of these little things right now upstairs. Show me which one you like, go get your money, and I'll keep Elouai from jumping on you." Elouai had never done anything bad to anyone, well, except for that little incident with Mano's shoes and her continued visits to the not-so-pretty flower patch outside Mano's cafe.

Zilnafa smiled. "Okay. Erm...I think I like the dark green one." she scrunched her nose at the cat and smiled like a dope. She should really be ashamed.
"I'll be right back." She waved at her new cat and shook her head exasperated with herself. She turned to the shopkeeper. "I'm not usually this dopey. I'm a Slytherin and animals mess with my head. I'll be back."
She dashed out the door and waved again this time at the keeper. "Be right back." She called.

Michael smiled after the girl and shook his head as he reached in to pull out the dark green cat. He gave the others in the cage a pat before shutting the door and carrying the one he had gotten out to the counter. He went ahead and got out one of the little carriers he had for the smaller pets and a small bag of food that would last weeks for the tiny creature. The girl could choose the toy or accessory she wanted when she got back.
It wasn't long before Elouai came down. She was fully grown now, with sleek black fur and the low-wagging tail characteristic of German Shepherds, but still very much a puppy. A little pygmy puff hopped around on her head just above her collar and a tiny silver cat trotted along behind Elouai. Michael couldn't help it, he was acquiring more animals.

Zilnafa returned huffing but froze in the door way. There was a German Sheperd-like puppy tail wagging out from behind a cage and, assuming that there wasn't a pet that just looked like a tail, it happened to be attached to a puppy.
She crept around the tail carefully poking her head around the cage to discover she'd been correct. A puppy acommapined that tail. Huh. She didn't know whether to creak a floorboard, say something, bang on a pan with wooden spoon. She opted for the second option deciding that maybe this puppy wouldn't have heard the bang very loudly on something greeting.
"Uh. Hi." She spotted the shopkeeper and waved slightly nervous. In her experience, puppies hadn't the bite force control as thier older counter parts did. "Can I baby talk your dog?"

"If you want, she won't hurt you, I promise," Michael said, then came out from behind the counter to pat his thigh. Elouai came up to him, skidding slightly on the floor, and he made her sit. "She's big and acts like a puppy, but she's well trained." He and Dare had had a lot of fun training her. There were still things they wanted to work on with her, but it wasn't anything really important. "You know, I was a Slytherin when I was still in school."

"You can't be a Slytherin." Zilnafa could hear the comment that could be construde a nasty fly out of her mouth...but she couldn't stop herself. It was too tempting and she hated that. "You seem much too emotionally stable to be in Slytherin. You sure you weren't Ravenclaw?"
Zilnafa barely contained her groan of exasperation. She seriously didn't know where to stop. She could kick herself. Perhaps she could get the puppy to bite her. Yes that might work.
She streched her hand out to the puppy and tched.
