Connor hated the library, he really, really hated the library. But he hated homework even more, and so he knew that if he didn't hide himself in the back of the library to do it it wouldn't get done. So there he was, wishing he was off somewhere with Melody or Vane instead, with a book open to a page he hadn't read, scratching absently at the wood of the table with his quill.

Layne walked into the library with her bookbag slung over her shoulder. She had some homework to finish up and the common room was proving to be way too distracting. Walking over to the tables, she paid no attention to anyone else already seated. Getting situated at a table, she opened a one of her text books and took out a quill and parchment. After reading the first sentence and writing a few herself, Layne got bored and started scanning the room to see who else was here.

Connor had barely noticed when someone else sat near him, but soon his zoned out gaze had settled on her. He was barely aware of it, barely aware of his thoughts that slowly moved from a pale skinned redhead to a beautifully tanned asian looking girl with gentle waves in her hair. If he had been completely aware of everything, then he would have pulled his eyes away, packed up, and gone to find Melody. But he wasn't, was he?

Layne brought her eyes back to the book and stayed like that for a few seconds before leaning down to grab a piece of gum from her bag. As she lifted her head again, she caught site of some guy looking at her general direction. She threw a glance behind her and around, making sure he wasn't looking at someone else before she said, "If I have something in my teeth or something wrong with my hair, you better tell me now. If not, what are you staring at?"

It took Connor another few moments to realize the girl was talking to him, and when he did his eyes widened slightly behind his hair and then dropped. "Sorry, I..." I was just staring into space, nothing big. Before that could come out, though, he realized suddenly that she was insanely hot. Instead, his lips curved slightly and he looked up at her again. "It's hard not to when you look like that." That even surprised himself, where had that come from? Maybe he had been spending too much time with the guys....

Layne kept her eyes on him, studying him. Based on appearances, he wasn't her type. "Uh, thanks," she said simply, casting her eyes back to her paper. She wasn't interested, plain and simple. From her peripherals though she watched him. It's hard not to when you look like that. Flattering as it was, it was also corny. Something she would have endlessly teased Jory about if he had said it.

Connor raised an eyebrow and decided that homework could wait in favor of going to talk to the girl. "Sorry, that was a little too much, right?" He was still not really thinking about the whole situation, but he did know that it wasn't exactly a good idea to go completely off like that, no matter how pretty the girl was. A few months ago, he never would have thought of doing something like this, but two months ago he had only ever crushed on a girl, never anything more.

"Just a lil' bit," Layne said, still eyeing him from the corner of her eye. After a moment of hesitation, she realized that she probably wouldn't get much done now that she had a distraction. So, with that in mind she closed her book, popped a bubble, and leaned back on her chair. "I appreiciate the effort though." She gave him a friendly smile, proving she wasn't as rude as she could sometimes come across.

"You're welcome," Connor said with a small smile. "I'm Connor Holt, by the way." Who was she? He certainly didn't remember seeing her around. He was quickly moving to dangerous territory, whether he realized it or not. It wasn't his fault that his mind was already wandering down the path to the gutter.

"Nice to meet you Connor." Layne pulled her hair into a high ponytail, leaving only a few strands out by her face. "I'm Layne Razz." Now that her hair was out of her face, she got a better view of the guy. Eh, he still wasn't her type. Making conversation though she asked, "Are you in Slytherin?" It was the house she could see him in, something about him just projected Slytherin.

"Nice to meet you, too," Connor said, then immediately feigned insult when she asked if he was a Slytherin. "No, Gryffindor. Are you in Slytherin?" He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head. That question was such an easy one to turn back on her. He was certainly not a Slytherin. He knew people that were, but he wasn't anywhere close to one.

Layne raised her eyebrows, "Do I look like I could be a Slytherin?" She grinned, "I'm a Gryffindor too actually." She wasn't surprised that she had never seen this guy before, they had one of the biggest houses on campus. Plus, adding to that, the years varried a lot within the house. He looked older, probably another reason she had never seen him before.

"Really?" Connor asked, both eyebrows raising this time. "I haven't seen you around, that's a shame." He wouldn't mind seeing her around every so often. She would be a nice little thing to help him through homework at night when he couldn't be with Melody. Melody. But she wasn't here, and he wasn't doing anything that wasn't allowed. This was fine.

"Hard to believe you can see anything with your hair covering your eyes like that," Layne remarked casually. She shrugged innocently. It was totally the truth, and Layne was one to be blunt. She ran her hand through her hair, forgetting it was already in a ponytail and messed it up. Ugh! She undid the ponytail and shook our her hair before putting it back up again. Hair got annoying sometimes!

Connor gave his head a shake that swept his hair back from his eyes for a few seconds as he spoke. "I like my hair the way it is, thank you very much." He wanted to reach out and touch her hair, but he kept his hands to himself as his hair fell back over his dark brown eyes.
