"I'm sure he'll be fine, Mano," Carolynn interrupted finally, though she was still partially immersed in her fantasy. "I'm sure he'll love finding some mudblood intellectual to spend his time with." She raised one eyebrow and looked over at Eros. It had been a hard transition, but she hadn't had it nearly as hard as he and Mano had. She didn't have to work, and got treated by Firebrand. She certainly didn't mind the life right now.

"Oh dear God," Eros said, his nostrils flaring slightly at the thought. "I haven't met a one, and anyway, isn't mudblood intellectual an oxymoron?" He sipped at his wine thoughtfully. "Anyway, if I were interested in income, I'd be paying more attention to my investments, not opening a candy shop in Scotland." It really was quite unpleasant to deal with. "I don't know how you all enjoy manual labor so much. Excepting you, darling," he added for Caro.

Mano figured Carolynn wouldn't pick up a finger if her life depended on it, but he didn't say as much, he figured both of them knew it without him saying something. Soon, there was a knock, and Mano excused himself, setting his glass down before heading toward the door. Who on earth else could it be? He certainly hadn't expected to be hosting a party when he had settled on the couch in the first place with a full glass.

Markise wasn't drunk, not by a long shot. And not for lack of trying. He'd had enough that this seemed like a good idea rather than purely an act of physical desperation, but if he allowed himself to think, it would come back. The cooking sherry he'd grabbed from the kitchens was hellishly salty, and maybe he was relieved to find that he wasn't quite as bad off as he'd thought he was.
He'd said goodnight to Ariel and gone straight back to his dorm to change into something more attractive than his typical school clothes, not to mention to put on some damned makeup. He hadn't been here in forever and didn't feel like begging for it. So he had on white slacks that fit him perfectly, brown shoes, and a tan shirt that set off his pale hair and skin, and made his eyes all the bluer. It hadn't for a moment occurred to him as he'd knocked that Mano might have company.

Carolynn looked back toward Mano as he opened the door, curious as to who it was. She would never have been able to guess at it being Markise, since she had only ever heard Mano talk about him a few times. She shifted, bringing herself up a little in her spot and forcing her body into something more suitable, just in case.

Eros's eyes turned toward the door as well, one brow arching at the delicious little blond on the porch. He looked back at Caro for a moment, wondering if he'd interrupted some sort of plans, but no, she seemed as surprised as any of them. He brought his wine to his lips once more and settled comfortably in to watch.

Mano gave one of his easy smiles and stepped back to let Markise in. "Markise, it's good to see you. You came on a good night." He looked out into the living room and gave introductions, "And Eros owns the candy shop down in Hogsmeade." He grinned a little as he added that detail and shut the door behind Markise. This night just kept getting more interesting.

Markise knew he hadn't had nearly enough to drink when his heart started thudding. He had the sudden desire to turn around and leave, wait for another night, but Mano had ushered him in and his escape route was closed behind him. His mind was trying to take everything in, from the firm thought that Carolynn was not Mano's cousin and what that must mean to the man who didn't look like he'd walk into a candy shop, let alone own one. One day you'll show up and he'll expect you to be with someone else just so he can watch! Markise managed a hesitant hi and refused to move any further into the room.

Carolynn pulled herself to her feet and looked over Markise with wide, bright eyes. "Ohhh, he is cute," she said, coming up to Markise. She wanted to reach out and pet his hair-he was even wearing make-up! "I've heard good things about you," she informed him. Her eyes flickered back up to Mano and she turned back to examining Markise. "Is your hair as soft as it looks?" she asked, clasping her hands in front of her to keep herself from diving straight in.

Eros's eyes had darkened momentarily at Mano's good-natured tease, but that moment of mild annoyance faded upon observation of the boy. He'd never seen a male wear makeup like that, and was fascinated by the balance of masculine and feminine. He would have enjoyed standing as Caro had, looking closer and perhaps touching, but was still quite entertained watching. Caro's excitement was quite amusing to watch.

"Carolynn, give him room to breathe," Mano teased lightly as he came up beside Markise to rest a light hand momentarily against his lower back. He gestured for Markise to follow and then went back to his seat, "Do you want anything?" he asked, so he could get it before sitting down if Markise answered yes.

Markise felt a moment of incredible shock at that contact from Mano, as brief and light as it was. He still wanted to run, but that part of him that had decided to do this in the first place wouldn't let him claim to have just stopped by on his way back to school. The only relief he took was Mano's words, whether he could trust them or not. He didn't answer the woman, Carolynn, but nodded gratefully at Mano. He thought he needed something just for having walked in here.

Carolynn pouted slightly at the lack of answer from Markise and twirled to take bouncing steps back to her seat. She wasn't any less fascinated by Markise, but she refused to stand there attempting conversation when he obviously wasn't going to reply back to her. But his hair did look soft! She would love to play with it, or even play with make-up, though his looked good already.

Caro had had her turn, and the boy still looked as though he was facing down a raging hippogriff, so Eros decided to claim a turn. "So, Markise, is it? Do you know Mano well?" He wondered if the boy would blush. It was perfectly obvious how well they knew one another, and that subtle reaction had been worth the attention Eros paid to such details. He wondered idly if this was the boy Mano had mentioned before, though not in any great detail.

Mano flashed a smirk toward Carolynn, something that would undoubtedly lead to her pouting further, and then poured out a drink. He sat and offered it to Markise, gesturing for him to sit. There was plenty of room for him, plenty of open space, Markise didn't even need to sit very close to someone if he didn't want to. He also kept any comments to how well they knew each other to himself. Carolynn knew, but he would let Markise speak.
