Melody stood wide-eyed and stared at the large room in front of her. She had no idea where to go or who to talk to or what to do! She was standing frozen in nervousness. Being home schooled was much easier and at this moment she wanted to go back to the warmth and familiarity of her living room. Of course, she knew she couldn't. If she went there would be no one there.
A thud behind her made her unfreeze for a moment. Looking she saw that her luggage had dropped from where she had been holding it up with her wand. As well as that, she had somehow lost her grip on her wand and dropped that too. Bending down to pick it up, she placed it in her pocket and decided to take her things by hand. There wasn't much anyway, she could manage.
Once situated she began to walk in the direction of the staircase. She had to find the Hufflepuff common room somehow. Stairs were a good start. Just as she got to the foot of the stairs though she hesitated. As soon as she stepped forward there was officially no way of turning back.

Connor hadn't missed the girl fumbling with her things, but he hadn't made it to the point where he could make his feet move to go help her. She was hot. When he saw that she was going to try heading up the stairs with luggage that couldn't possibly be very light, he was finally able to uproot his feet and start toward her with a few quick steps. "Can I help?" he asked, pleased to note that his voice didn't crack at all. He didn't go after girls, not like some of his friends, but he wasn't so much a kid that he couldn't appreciate a good looking girl when he saw one.

Melody turned to face the guy, and in the process knocked a suitcase into her knee. "Ow, and uh sure. That would be good actually," she said rubbing the spot on her knee where a bruise was most likely going to be forming soon. What a bad first impression already! And in front of a cute and helpful guy! Public school was not going as planned! Running her fingers through her hair, Melody said motioning to the two suitcases, "I'll carry this one if you take he other?" Her comment came out more like a question than she would have preferred but either way she got the message across. Hopefully this guy wouldn't judge her too quickly based on her nervous disposition.

"Um, yeah, sure," Connor said, his hair swinging over his eyes. He forgot that he had been with another girl not a month beforehand in face of this much prettier one. He took the suitcase from her. "So where are you trying to get to?" he asked, determined to try to help her, even if he had only just began the new school himself a week before.

"Um, well I don't really know. I was told that I was a Hufflepuff so I should go to the common room. The thing is, I have no idea where it is or what a Hufflepuff is..." From what Melody had heard of, this school was divided into houses. None of which made sense to her though. In this large building she saw no homes.

"Um..." Connor trailed off. He had no idea where the Hufflepuff common room was! "I'm a Gryffindor, a prefect showed me where my house was..." One had directed him to it his first day, then he had been on his own. Perhaps they could find one? Or maybe even a portrait? "I don't know if I'm allowed to go with you, I'm Connor Holt, by the way," he said, his words as scrambled as his thoughts.

So he was a Gryffindor? And he had been escorted to his room! Lucky guy! "I'm Melody. Well, Melody Krysten actually. Nice to meet you Connor." For the first time since she left home, Melody smiled. It was a small smile but a smile nevertheless.
"Well, I guess we could just wander around until we see something? I assume prefects are at class or hanging out with friends at the moment..." Melody was surprised to see how easily she just said that. She hoped that Connor would want to walk with her. She could use a friend right about now.

"Well most people only know where their own house's common room is, so maybe it'd be best if we waited here and you could ask one of your house mates?" Not to mention Connor didn't particularly like the idea of just wandering aimlessly through the huge castle carrying a suitcase and talking to a girl he had just met. He could talk to her just fine sitting there on the steps and waiting for a prefect or a teacher to come up.

"Yeah, okay. That'd be good too." Melody left out that she had no idea who her house mates were. But, it was better to be here with company than being off who knows where by herself. Leaning on the banister of the stairs she asked, "So, how old are you? Er, like what year?" Once again, a main difference was that when she was home schooled they didn't go by years. Everything was in a category; beginner, intermediate, advanced, or expert. Of course, now that she was here she was a 5th year. That made sense.

"I'm a fifth year," Connor said, moving to sit on the stairs and gesturing for Melody to join him. "And you?" he asked. Surely she wasn't his age, girls his age didn't look like that. Seventh year girls looked like that, and they were the ones that dated prefects and keepers and seekers. What if he had just made a fool out of himself in front of a seventh year girl?

Melody joined Connor in sitting down. "I'm a fifth year too!" Her smile grew a little bit more. For every second going by she was liking her new friend more and more. He was a pretty cool guy. But then again, she had only known him for about five minutes. Her thoughts turned to Andrew and she realized that they had become an item after only a day. Good frendships didn't have to take a while to establish. Although, she and Andrew didn't quite work out the way she wanted it to...
Melody pushed that unpleasent thought from her head and continued the conversation, "So, have you always gone here?"

Connor shook his head and settled the suitcase in front of his feet on a lower step. "No, this is my third school, my first was in America and my second was in London." And he didn't want to talk about the first one at all. There were too many memories associated with the place that he would just rather leave behind. "One of my friends is here with me, too, we just got here like a week ago."

Melody raised her eyebrows in awe, "Three schools? That must be tough to keep switching." She couldn't even imagine whatit would be like to buil up a reputation, make friends and then just leave. She hadn't really ever had that experience since the only other person she knew from home schooling left as well.
"It's nice you have a friend here though," She continued, "Was he or she at the other schools as well?" It would be very coincidental if they had been together for the entire time so for some unknown reason Melody somewhat hoped the friend was a guy.

Connor nodded, "Yeah. When we left our first school we talked our parents into letting us go to the same one over here, and then we transferred here." He didn't know how he could have handled not having Vane and the other guys transfer with him to MI, and was extremely glad he still had Vane with him now. He usually didn't do very well around a lot of new people, so it was a relief to have someone he had known for so long.

"Which schools did you go to before this?" Melody cocked her head slightly to the side in curiosity. He still hadn't said whether his friend was a girl or guy though which caused her to want to ask who the friend was. The two obviously would have a special bond therefore if it was a girl it could turn into something more than that...Melody knew not to show what she was thinking and since she was pretty bad about hiding her thoughts and emotions she decided to not think about that for the time being. Instead she waited for Connor's answer.
