Markise was cursing the distance between the Great Hall and the Hufflepuff Common Room. He had no choice but to come out to eat, but every trip, he was tense with the idea of running into someone. A particular someone, especially. Thank God there were no classes, at least. He'd have to be wandering the whole school then. Markise turned from the main corridor, striding toward his destination.

Holly had just come from the great hall from lunch, and was thinking about heading to the library. Her meeting with Mano had been stressful, at least for her, and she had a lot to think about. Her dark brown hair was pulled up in a ponytail, and her forehead was creased in worry. He had seemed polite enough. In the corridor, beside her was the boy she had seen earlier in her argument with that Gryffindor. "Markise?" Holly questioned, peering at him through her lashes. She had done a little snooping and had found out his name.

Markise's heart stopped at hearing his name, though it managed to beat again the moment he recognized the voice as female. He looked back at the girl, but didn't recognize her, though she did look somewhat familiar. And had she just called him by name? Markise glanced past her, but there was no one else in sight, so it had to have been her. "Do I know you?" he asked.

"Well not really. You talked to me in the great hall once while I was kind of in a fight." Holly shrugged chuckling a little to herself. "Do not worry! I am not mean. I asked a friend and they gave me your name. Just recognized you I guess..." Holly frowned scratching her head, embaressed. Had she really just rambled that much?

Markise had to think a moment, but when it struck him, his eyes widened a bit. This was the girl who'd been fighting with Ariel that last day he'd seen him. He must have helped somehow for her to have actually asked about him. He wasn't entirely sure what to say, an oddity considering how friendly he'd been just weeks before. "So you got out alive," he managed, though he already knew the answer. Of course she had. Ariel had come after him.

"Yeah. I think you saved my butt," Holly grinned. She did not know why, but she felt happy and content with herself. Maybe it would be nice to extend that courtesy to everyone else. Brighten someone's day? Holly did not know much about the Gryffindor and Markise but she had her guesses. She decided to stay out of it as she knew it was not her business.

"Probably," Markise said. "Ar--Logan has a massive temper. I'm surprised he hasn't come after you. He hasn't, has he?" Maybe he was too busy selling himself so he could buy whatever it was that was so important to him. Markise's gut clenched at the idea. Then a thought occurred to him. If Ariel was bothering the girl, maybe he'd just teach her that zapping spell he hated so much.

Holly cocked her head to the side as Markise's expression turned angry. It lasted for a brief second but she had noticed it. "No, he has not come for me. I have not even seen him around," Holly mused scuffing her feet against the ground.

Markise relaxed at that and set aside his moment of spiteful vengeance. He'd be better off just letting it go and moving on, as ridiculous an idea as that might be. "It's probably a lot better that way," Markise said. If the girl hadn't seen Ariel around, and neither had he, then maybe Ariel was in hiding. That was a thought Markise enjoyed. He realized then that he didn't even know who he was talking to. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name," he said.

"Oh," Holly smiled, extending her hand in greeting. "My name is Holly Brown. I am a fourth year Ravenclaw." Her body relaxed, thankful that he had not slew out any ugly insults. It seemed everyone at Hogwarts was always on defense and enemies.

Markise was not by nature a confrontational person. Being as angry as he'd been lately was exhausting. He took Holly's smaller hand in his for a brief shake, then introduced himself, though she already knew his first name, at least. "Markise Sterling, sixth year Hufflepuff." He'd figured out by now that a lot of people thought of Hufflepuff as the dumping ground for people who weren't brave enough, clever enough, or cunning enough for the other houses, but he also knew that it wasn't entirely true, so he wasn't embarrassed to admit it.

"Oh! That's cool," Holly said genuinely. Releasing her hand, she let it drop back to her side unsure of what to say next. She wanted to take advantage of her comfort and go curl up with a book. It was unusual for her mind to be so calm. It was normally like a tempest, full of nightmares and twisting, violent winds.

Markise wasn't sure which part Holly thought was cool, so he murmured a noncommittal thank you and let it go. "So where were you going?" he asked. He knew where she'd come from, but the school and its grounds were far too large to even stand a chance of guessing. And maybe, just maybe Markise was a bit starved for company.

"No where in particular. I have had a relatively good day so I was thinking of relaxing somewhere," Holly shrugged, leaning against the wall. The taste of chocolate pudding was still in her mouth, her favorite dessert. She had not seen Jewels around and she was not in the mood to see Hektor. Maybe Markise was willing to hang out?

"I wasn't going anywhere either," Markise confessed. "Just back to my Common Room, but it's not going anywhere." Especially with so many of the other students gone for the holidays. Of course, that was one of the reasons Markise had been hiding out so much. He knew Ariel would be staying at Hogwarts and didn't at all want to continue that last confrontation.
