Markise's eyes glinted. "I'm the one being pushed," he pointed out. Markise wondered if Ariel would really push him over just to prove a point. He didn't know; Ariel was perfectly capable of it. Markise tried for distraction again, sliding his leg one more time against Ariel's, then adjusting his grip. He'd do his damnedest to hold on.

Ariel closed his eyes momentarily as Markise shifted against him. "What if you keep distracting me, and I let go of you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow over still closed eyes. "Do you have any idea how very close to the edge you are?" So if he let go Markise wouldn't fall anyway, but that didn't mean Markise knew that. For all Markise knew he was right at the edge.

Markise's eyes widened again at that question. He looked back over his shoulder again, but he couldn't tell anything other than that he was too close to see the edge. He blinked and looked back at Ariel, thinking quickly. "When I distract you, you hold me tighter," he said. It was something he loved, getting held so tightly that there was no getting away, no escape. Not that he wanted to escape at times like that. "Maybe I need to distract you more," Markise suggested.

Ariel opened his eyes and looked at Markise, thinking. "Maybe I've just been holding you tighter as a trick," he offered, "And my plan all along has been to suddenly release you off the cliff." He held just a little tighter then, daring Markise to keep doing what he had been. He wondered if they would ever get to their common rooms to sleep for the night.

Even if it was only a game, the thought of being lured into a trick still affected Markise. It was a secret worry that he could be used like that. Markise pushed his worry away, though. He didn't want to think about it. He wanted to just enjoy this moment. Markise looked up into Ariel's eyes, trying to read them, but all he saw was mischief. "If I break my ass, I won't be the only one missing out tomorrow," he tried.

Ariel's eyes narrowed slightly and he made a low oooo sound, "Well, that's not good." He raised an eyebrow then and his arms tightened. "I guess that I need to rethink my tactics." He knew that they both needed to go to bed, but that wasn't very high on his list of priorities. "How much sleep do you need, anyway?" he asked. Everyone had different levels.

Markise was pleased that his words had affected Ariel, but it took him a moment to make the connection to his question. How much sleep did Markise need? "It depends how well I need to function," he said honestly. "I haven't been sleeping much though..." Markise was interrupted by the strong need to yawn, and he brought one hand up to smother it for a moment. "I'm best on nine, but I know I'm not getting that much tonight."

Ariel sighed softly and his hands moved lightly over Markise. "Do you want to go?" he asked, giving up the game for a rare moment of wanting to make sure that Markise was going to be fine the next day. If Markise really wanted to go, Ariel wouldn't keep him. A voice in his head said that it would be best anyway for them to go ahead and leave, however much he didn't want to.

Markise shifted his limbs against Ariel, reveling in the feel of those hands against him. "Does it look like I want to go?" he returned. No, he didn't want to go, but he needed to go. He needed to get some sleep so he'd be rested for the club on Friday. Markise gave a heavy sigh and pressed a light kiss to Ariel's lips, then dragged himself out of Ariel's arms to stand. He hadn't been nearly as close to the edge of the desk as he'd thought. Markise started picking through clothes to find his. "I need sleep for Friday," he explained.

Ariel's eyes darkened slightly at the reminder of that, but he said nothing. He propped his head up with one arm and watched Markise for a few seconds before forcing himself up off of the desk, wincing slightly at a sharp ache in his hip bone from being pressed into the hard wood for the past few minutes. Then he started picking out his own clothes, throwing the odd glance towards Markise as he did.

When Markise had finished, he looked aside at Ariel, watching as he rounded the desk toward his book bag. He wanted to throw himself against Ariel again, but with movement, he'd noticed the dull ache in his brain at having been awake so long. He needed to sleep.
Markise put his bag on the desk a moment, the pulled our a long scarf and warm hat that went with the gloves tucked into Ariel's coat pocket. He laid both on the desk, then slung his bag over one shoulder. "Those are for you, too," he said simply. He didn't trust himself not to start something again otherwise.

Ariel went over and bent, picking up the coat and looking at it for a moment before swinging it around and putting it on. He didn't exactly need it in the castle, but he wanted to try it out. Then his eyes turned to the things on the desk and his eyes softened. He reached for them and ran the fabric through his fingers. "Thank you," he said softly, finally looking up at Markise.

Something about the way Ariel said those words sent warmth rushing up Markise's neck and into his cheeks. "You're welcome," he returned, just as softly. He didn't know what else to say. It felt like words would be too much right now. Markise hiked his bag up a little farther onto his shoulder, then looked Ariel over. "It looks good on you," Markise said. It was as good as a functional winter coat could look, anyway.

Ariel watched Markise for a few moments, then nodded and whispered a thank you before he tucked the other things into his pocket and went for his own bag. "Meet here Friday?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He had given up trying to get out of going, so he was just going to go with it and pray that nothing happened.

Markise nodded. "You'll want to wear your coat," he said, "and don't forget that cloak, nobody can see us." He didn't think he needed to remind Ariel that they were going in secret, but all the same, it made Markise feel better to say it. He walked around the desk toward the door, his traitorous body demanding one more kiss, even if they'd spent all evening and plenty into the night being together. He knew if he stopped, he'd just end up on that desk again. Markise raised one hand in parting, then slipped out the door, making a beeline for his bed.
