Gwen tickled the pear and entered first greeting one of the house elves, Dimmy, in the process. The elves quickly pulled together chairs and a table for the two to sit and eat then promply went back to cooking for the large breakfast in the Great Hall later in the day. Gwen grabbed an apple to snack on as she sat down.

Violet, having been to the kitchens just once before (in her first year), thanked the house elves quietly and picked up her favourite breakfast item: a blueberry muffin.

The house elves worked quickly running all over the place to serve the two at the table and the rest of the great hall. Gwen thanked the house elves and told them that she needed no more food, she would be back later for lunch any how. At this point conversation between the two Ravenclaws seemed to have stopped and with no view of the grounds the awkward tension rose again.

"Um....s-so..what's your favourite c-cl-class?" Violet stammered and stuttered her question out as though she was talking to the entire Great Hall rather than just one girl in her year.

"Care of Magical Creatures," Gwen answered quickly choosing to ignore the stuttering, She played with her wand twirling it around slightly carelessly as if it was some random stick. "I like it because its much more hands on and you can actually see some of the animals and you aren't imprisoned by a classroom. How about you?"

"Oh. Um, well I like Potions. Even though I thoroughly despise Snape, he's never too harsh on me because I'm good at Potions. I like mixing things and measuring things," Violet replied carefully, trying desperately not to stutter or repeat herself.

"Makes sense, Snapes harsh on everybody but I just channel his harshness into ways to excel, he's actually a good teacher now that I think about it. Enough about the man in the black." She took a large bite in her apple, "Everytime I see you your burried in a really thick book, so two questions, What in the world do you read, and how do you find so many books?"

"Well, I usually read fantasy books, or mystery books. And I'm muggle-born so during the holidays, I go back to visit my family in Scotland, and my parents give me a little money to go to the family owned bookstore down the street. They've got lots and lots of books. Hardly any of my books are brand new. The bookstore is a second hand bookstore so usually I get beat-up copies of excellent books. And my parents go to Estate Sales and yard sales quite often, so they keep their eyes open for books I might like," Violet said without hesitating once. Books were one of her favourite subjects to talk about, when she did have a conversation with another human being.

"Scotland? I can barely hear an accent. I live in Bristol myself, muggles everywhere. My mums a muggleborn so we incorperate a lot of muggle items into our home life mainly because she has friends who are muggles. I actually like muggle clothing more. How did your parents react to the magic? I imagine it to be quite a surprise" It did not strike Gwen that the question may have been to personal to ask.

"Yeah, Scotland is where I was born, and my parents, well let's just say I understood immediately, my dad thinks it's amazing, and my mother still doesn't understand completely. I've pretty much lost hope in her ever understanding," Violet responded, much more comfortable than she had been up in the Dormitory.

"I don't think muggles would ever understand our lives much like how we could never understand theirs, we could try but we'll still be wizards and witches you can't beat magic out of you you cant pretend you don't have it." Gwen paused briefly before continuing "Your parents what do they do?"

Violet noticed the pause before Gwen asked another question. Violet decided to respond to the magic statement before answering the question. "Well, I think muggleborns and some half-bloods (the ones with one muggle parent) can understand muggle life as well as some muggles do. I think that my dad understands, up to a point, but my mother is just hopeless. My dad works as a writer, and my mother has the most boring job in the world. She works in a factory for eight hours a day, six days a week, manufacturing toasters." Violet grimaced at the mention of toasters. "What about you? Are your parents magic?"

"Halfblood and proud of it" Gwen grinned, "Mums Muggleborn dads a halfblood, his dad was a pureblood, its why I wear this pendant" The pendant was shaped like a shield and in the shield was a beaverdove and two swords making an x above it. "It traces back to Arthurian times, my great grandfather of many generations carved the symbol, he claimed a beaverdove showed up in a glowing light and saved him from death, now a days we think he was seeing things he went barmy soon afterwards. Mum's always found it fascinating our history, of course she finds all history amazing, she named me Guinevere after Arthur's wife. I guess thats why I like history so much because mum always told me amazing bed time stories, she's a runes transcriber, a historian with a specialty. Dad's a curse breaker my families just got a knack for history I suppose" She shrugged and hid the pendant.

"That pendant is amazing. The only sort of necklace I have is this one," Violet pulled a gold chain out from her T-shirt. The golden locket on the end sung back and forth. "I've got a picture of my parents on one side, and a picture of my brother and sister on the other. My family means a lot to me, even if they don't quite understand."

"Because in the end of the day that's who you'll have. The locket is amazing too" And that wasn't a lie, because in a way both necklaces were the same. "Your siblings how old are they?" She wondered if Violet was the only magical person in her family.
