"They're both older. My sister is fifteen and my brother is nineteen," Violet replied. "Oh and thank you," She mumbled the last bit as she tucked the locket back into her T-shirt

Gwen fell silent, thinking for a moment. Her watch read 7:00 so the sun would have been up by now. "Funny, I'm not usually a morning person" she thought outloud. Last night Gwen had fallen asleep incredibly early so by default she woke up early. Usually she would be the last to enter the Great Hall on anyday and if she was woken early she would be grumpy for the rest of the day. Sighing to herself she drifted off in thought almost forgetting the conversation they were having

Violet replied quietly. "Yeah, I'm not much for mornings either."

The conversation reached a halt, both seemingly waiting for the other to speak. The only sound was the bustling of the house elves, Twinks a particularly small house elf stumbled over to the girls and offered some more food. Gwen thanked Twinks and continued to drift off.
Her mind was at home now, where her father would be working unless he had a rare day off, her mother would be reading a history book or sorting out runes. Or maybe they had a muggle guest over. Suddenly Gwen was desperately homesick she wanted to walk about Bristol again and wander about, go to Cabot Tower and over look the city or Brandon park where she could read and relax under a tree.

Violet thanked a small house elf for the french toast and maple syrup that was put on the table. She was still rather hungry so she decided to eat. She saw the absent look on Gwen's face, and figured it better not to disturb her wandering thoughts. Violet's mind wandered over to the Owlry, where her Barn owl, Aphrodite, was probably still asleep. She thought of how she hadn't written home in a while, and her father probably wanted to tell her about some new idea for a book, or a particularly good article he had written for the newspaper. Violet then thought of her mother, whom she barely ever spoke to, let alone wrote to. She thought it was probably a good idea to write back home to Sterling, a note to each of her parents, so she could still be part of the family, even if she was far away.

"Ever wish you could go back? That you didnt have to spend all this time away? Attend a secondary?" The question came out of nowhere, "I love Hogwarts and its wonders, but I miss home, I don't get to see my family enough, don't get to walk the streets of Bristol, might get lost in my own home town." The silence stretched as Gwen waited for an answer, the twirling of her wand stopped as she had sheathed it in her holster, she grabbed another fruit not really paying any attention to wait she was eating. It only served as a distraction.

"Well, yes. I don't like being away from home much, and I miss my father terribly. But I go home on holidays, and my father always asks about the mysteries and ghosts and secret passages and such. He's always looking for new writing ideas. I'm glad Christmas is so soon; just a month away," Violet responded, all fear and awkwardness forgotten. She liked this girl, and it didn't seem she would likely betray Violet. Violet was going to give this friendship a chance. "I was just thinking about going up to the Owlry to write home."

Gwen took out some paper and pencils handing them to Violet. "I like muggle school supplies better too, not that we're allowed to use them" She answered the silent question. "I don't think we'll finish our letters here or anything but when your done with yours you can find me and we'll head up to the owlery together." The watch now read 8:23 "So did you have any plans on this wonderful Saturday?" Gwen tried to strike up another conversation that was less gloomy.

Violet took the paper and a pencil. She pulled the paper forward, weighing her answer. "Thanks. And I never have any plans. Other than reading, or schoolwork. Sometimes I wander around the castle, looking for new passages," Violet answered honestly.

"Do you have an owl?" Violet couldn't help but ask.

"Explorings fun, found the Room of Requirement yet? I overheard one of the older Ravenclaws talking about it" Gwen said absent mindedly then proceeded to answer the next question. "Yeah, well techincally its my Dad's but he makes me take it to school just in case. Names Nero named after a Roman Emperor who came to power when he was 17, wasn't a really good Emperor, called him a tyrant some people say he 'fiddled while Rome burned' its a Strix aluco, a Tawny. How about you? Any pets? Rats, Owls, Cats, dogs?"

"Yeah, I found the Room Of Requirement in first year. I use it as a library a lot. But yeah, I have a white Barn owl named Aphrodite, after the Greek goddess of Love. I'm crazy over mythology," Violet said, as she started out her father's letter with "Hey, Dad..."

"No way? I didn't think I'd meet another myth freak! History's my favorite subject...I don't much fancy the class though, mythology is amazing. You should meet my mum I bet you two can have a nice long chat about it." Gwen changed the subject quickly. "You don't do much but read do you? Flying? Quidditch? Gobstones?"

"Well, reading and flying are my two favourite activities. I have a fairly nice broom, bought a new one at the start of the term. I've never had the courage to try out for Quidditch, though I do fancy the Beater position. But yeah, I love mythology. I'm not big on history, but definitely Mythology," Violet responded, half writing, half talking.

"Mythology is a branch of history, I love all kinds of history" Gwen pointed out. "Beater eh? Don't take this the wrong way but I've never pegged you as the beater type, a seeker maybe but hey more than meets the eye yea? I fly a Holocaust 260, not the fastest broom in the world but its got a nice handle and its very sturdy, good for sharp turns too. I'm a decent chaser but I'm not really built to play. Its just something I do with my dad or my cousins. What kind of broom do you fly? A beater broom would have to be pretty sturdy and have a good stop rate" Gwen babbled, she loved flying though never cared for playing in a real game.
