Neo's steps quickened as they reached they reached the gardens. His lips curved into a grin of anticipation, the sense of the forbidden stealing over him as they left the glittering light of the ballroom behind. The Daily Prophet could say all it wanted about him, and maybe, just maybe some of the things said were more true than he would admit. He looked down at Arwen as they walked the main path, keeping the rows of flowering bushes in his periphery. He intended to take her someplace where they wouldn't be found.

Arwen kept pace with him, quickly becoming breathless, not from the movement, but from the knowledge of what they were going to do. Her hand tightened in his as she looked around, excitement mixed with nervousness, the emotions bringing her almost to the point of laughing at the prospect of doing something so intimate somewhere that anyone could walk in on them. Her eyes sparkled and her cheeks were flushed when she finally looked up at him, a wide smile on her face.

Neo's grin widened at the sight of her smile. As strangely different as she looked, it was her, and he knew he wouldn't be disappointed. He could have laughed at the almost childlike feeling of absconding with some forbidden treasure. All at once, his eyes caught a small gap in the bushes, and he paused, turned to look, then glanced back at Arwen. His hand tightened around hers, then he pulled, slipping through onto a hidden path beneath a row of trees. His pace quickened again, not from impatience, but that childlike feeling that the swell of his chest did nothing to dim.

Arwen bit her lip and brought her other hand around to their already clasped hands, wrapping it around the other side of his. She felt like a first year skipping class, or a third year sneaking into the forbidden forest for the first time. One look from him showed that he was feeling the same way. She looked down the path, trying to see where they would end up, but couldn't help the nervous glances she threw over her shoulder, watching for someone following them.

Neo could feel Arwen's nerves, and it spurred him on. He wanted this to be just right, but he needed to hurry, before she changed her mind, before the sense of adventure wore off. The path twisted, but at last Neo turned away, off the path, into the soft grass screened by trees and bushes. He stopped a short way in, where the night was silent but for the sound of their breathing. Then he turned to her and pulled her close.

Arwen stopped, biting her lip as she looked up at him, the excitement still in her eyes. She reached up and pulled off his glasses, wanting to see his eyes. Her arm went around the back of his neck. Paradise, she thought, perhaps she was in paradise. She didn't speak, instead she brought her lips up to his.

He had not transfigured his eyes, the only truly identifying feature about him, for the night. He felt stripped, exposed at the loss of his glasses, but made no move to stop her, only tensing slightly as they had lifted away. With her kiss, his eyes closed, and his arm slid around her waist, anchoring her body to his.

Even if she couldn't see his eyes because of kissing him, the knowledge that if she opened her eyes she would be able to made it worth it. Arwen let his hand go, bringing her hand up to his neck, her fingers lightly touching the spot where his jaw met his neck. She loved his arm around her waist, it made her feel secure, safe, it chased away the feeling of danger that someone could see them.

With both hands free now, Neo did not hesitate to draw both arms around Arwen, surrounding her body with his. The light touch of her hand against his skin was a tease, the skin heated with wanting more. The kiss deepened, intensified and the night was forgotten for the heat rising between them.

Arwen explored his mouth, taking one more taste before moving her lips down his jaw to the place where, moments before, her fingers had been teasing. She forgot that she was outside, in the open, because it didn't feel like she was out in the open, not with his arms engulfing her. Her blood rushed and her body tingled with anticipation.

It was always this good between them, Neo thought vaguely. It was why he'd waited, why he'd searched her out instead of using the opportunity to sate himself with every girl he could get alone. The night could have been one interlude after another, all arrogance aside, he knew the truth of it, but he hadn't cared. His interest lay in the girl in his arms, the girl he pressed into the soft, cool grass to join with.
The costume had been nothing, just a game, maybe to see if he could find her, maybe to bring back the feel of the hunt without having to lower his increasingly high standards. She'd done something to him, he was sure of it. There was no other explanation for whatever it was that kept happening between them, kept strengthening. He wanted to argue, wanted to fight, but it felt so good, so unbelievably good that all he could do was hang on for the ride. The ride was amazing.

Arwen relaxed backwards into the grass, her eyes closed and a soft, extremely satisfied smile was on her lips. Her hands rubbed his shoulders, she felt amazingly good and didn't want him to leave. It was always like that with him, she would have thought that over time it would have become less pleasurable, but it was only getting better. She pulled his head down and kissed him again.

It was the first time they'd ever really been alone. There was no muffled music from the next room, no sound whatsoever besides the sounds they made, and the result was confusion, a return to thought before it was time. The kiss said things that he'd meant to keep to himself, things he told himself she already knew. He'd been looking forward to this all night.

Arwen put her hands on either side of his face, showing him how much she appreciated him, everything he made her feel both physically and emotionally. The moment felt, if possible, more intimate than any of their previous meetings, and she intended to get as much out of it as she could before something happened, whether it be a mental crash to reality or someone walking down the path.
