Cassie smiled as she wandered through the trees, letting her fingers trail across the rough bark of ones she passed. She sighed and looked up, pausing to watch the sunlight spear through the leaves. She followed the sunlight down to the ever changing patterns on the forest floor. After watching for a few moments she continued into the forest. A few more minutes passed until she found a clearing of the ideal size.
Taking off her cloak and shoes, she let her long blond hair hang loosely down her back. Standing there in just her top and long skirt which hugged her narrow hips she closed her eyes and listened. She listened to the wind, sighing in the tree tops and whispering between the trunks. She listened to the rustle of the plants and the call of the animals. She smiled to herself, in a trance and began to dance, matching her movement to the heartbeat of the forest.

Chase had had no real purpose wandering through the forest. He'd simply been bored, and decided a nature walk was better than standing in the corridors. He hadn't even heard the girl; her feet, light and sure of themselves, did little to disturb the late spring grass. He was partway into the clearing before he even knew she was there, and he stopped, watching. Was she the one who had interrupted him with Reed? In her element, she seemed more sylph than girl.

Cassie let the music of the forest guide her in her steps, her feet quick and light, her twists and turns sharp and her occassional leap graceful and elegant. Her hair flew out like a sheet of gold and caught the sunlight slanting through to trees. Cassie's senses were so absorbed that she didn't even notice the arrival of a guy. She let her feet continue as she danced to the forest's song.

Chase considered joining her. She hadn't felt his presence, and he wondered if she'd even notice if he caught her after one of her leaps. Her movements were natural, but unpredictable at first. He continued to watch, absorbing her motions until he had a feel for her rhythm. The moment felt surreal, dreamlike. There was nothing to stop him as he moved forward, slipping an arm around her, moving into a turn with her, silently challenging himself to keep up.

Cassie was shocked out of her reverie by a hand at her waist, but her body kept moving as she opened her eyes. She recognised the owner of the arm around her wait, yet did not recall his name. She continued dancing, leading him through the dance that flowed through her. She smiled at him, letting the silence continue as she knew that words would only spoil the moment.

Chase's smile echoed Cassie's as they danced together. He didn't have the training she had, but he had a sense of rhythm and enough natural agility to anticipate her movements and move with her. He couldn't hear her music, but his music was the sway and arch of the feminine body close against his. He felt no more need than she did to break the silence and bring reality to the moment.

Cassie closed her eyes again tuning herself into the music. She hled their bodies close, letting herself feel the touch of a partner, something she ahd missed for a long time. She led them into a spiral, turning round and round the clearing, their speed increasing slightly every time. She opened her eyes and watched to see how Chase was coping with it. She was silently challenging him to step up his game.

Chase was forced to divert his attention to the motion of their feet, to spinning without crushing her toes beneath his boots. This wasn't a type of dance he was accustomed to; he could hold his own at a club or one of his parents' political functions, but this was different; structured, and yet not. His eyes met hers; he saw the challenge gleaming in the green of her eyes and responded to it, his smile curving into a somewhat wolfish grin. He pulled her closer, until her body was flush against his, leaving one movement between them.

Cassie grinned back, challenging Chase even more. She tightened their spirals and stayed close to him, enjoying the sensations of dancing so close with a partner. Her toes barely skimmed the ground as Chase's arms around her kept her steady. Cassie let one of her arms move slightly, so it was curled round his neck, she leaned her forehead against his, locking their eyes together.

His adrenaline was long past humming, it was flowing freely. The blur of the forest around them, the warmth of the lithe form against him, the intimacy of eye contact; it was all he could do not to press her back against the nearest tree and kiss her senseless. She hadn't said a word. It could have been a dream for how unreal it all felt. Chase didn't stop the spinning motion, but neither did he resist the urge to kiss her. It was a soft press of lips, an invitation without demand, an addition to the whirling dance rather than an end.

Cassie didn't reject the kiss but welcomed it, letting the pressure mount slightly. Her feet lifted off the ground so Chase was carrying her, but she was so slim she knew he would have no trouble. She closed her eyes, experiencing the kiss only with her sense of touch. She let her fingers curl in his hair at the nape of his neck and her heartbeat quickened. The dance, the kiss, both were totally different to her previous experiences and she brought to them a sense of curiosity and yet knowledge as she had led him in the dance and been kissed like that before.

It had to be a dream. Meeting a golden nymph in the forest, a silent dance, and a wholehearted kiss was something that simply didn't happen. His arms tightened around her, and somehow, his feet kept moving, or perhaps he'd stopped and it was only residual whirling from the kiss. He kissed her slowly, thoroughly, satisfying her curiosity and the desire that had welled over the past minutes--or had it been hours? He'd lost track of time.

Cassie brought her feet back down to the ground, stopping them in their whirlwind dance. She let the kiss deepen, pushing Chase ever so gently. Cassie's mind was still whirling in circles and quesitons bubbled up. But there was just something about Chase that let her leave those questions unanswered and her thoughts stilled, until her mind was calm and focused on the sensations Chase was causing.

Chase's mind had slipped away, leaving nothing but the taste of the kiss and the need for more. Chase should have pulled away, should have given them both a chance to breathe, a chance to think, but since his breakup with Dru, he'd grown increasingly restless, and could think of no more pleasant way to focus his energy than this. His hands firmed against her, and the kiss deepened, shifting from slow exploration toward intensity. At the moment, he had no intention of stopping.

Cassie let Chase continue, matching him for intensity. Part of her brain was ordering her to stop, telling her she had learnt this lesson with Julius not too long ago and the repercussions hadn't been that pleasant. But it was only a very small part of her and Cassie readily overruled it. Cassie let her arms link round his neck and she let her tongue run lightly across his lips.
