Time for a break (Brenna/open)

[Brenna MacKenzie]

"That was nice of her." Brenna said. She picked her coffee up. "At Beauxbatons they taught us the basics, but we were never expected to use them much." She said before taking a sip.

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

"Teaching here hasn't exactly been regular and Brooke took me under her wing" Gabby smiled at the thought of all her new clothes up in their dorm. "She's like a big sister to me I guess. So what did your brother do that made you say all those things?" Gabby asked, wondering if hse was being too nosy.

Brenna sighed. This wasn't a topic she wanted to discuss, but she figured it would be good to tell someone else and if she trusted anybody enough, it would be Gabby. "He got a girl pregnant." She bit her lip. "And then took the baby without telling her or letting her see it." She said it as if it were normal everyday conversation. In her head, she debated whether or not to tell Gabby she knew the mther of the child.

Gabby sat back, "Oh," was what she first said, then she recovered slightly and continued, "well at least he didn't abandon them, why did he leave the mother, do you know who she is?" Gabby asked, wondering if it was something to do with the mother that he had just left. "I'm sorry, it must be hard for your family" Gabby sympathised with Brenna.

"Yes, I do. And so do you." Brenna said raising her eyebrow. "It's not hard for my family raising him, espicially since he won't let any of us get near him either. It's harder knowing what he's keeping from us. My first little nephew, my parent's first grandchild. We don't know where he is or what he looks like. My parents don't even know if he really exists, but they weren't there that week at Beauxbatons..."

Gabby loked at Brenna puzzled over who the mother was. "Who?" she asked quietly, listening to Brenna's explanation of how things were at the moment.

Brenna sighed. "You have to promise that you won't tell anyone or even let her know what I just told you. Even if you're extremely ipset at her or something, you cannot let her know you know." Brenna said rapidly.

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

Gabby recognised that his was one promise that she wouldn't be able to break, "Ok," she said seriously, "I promise I won't tell anyone, you have my word" Gabby nodded for Brenna to continue. Who could the mother be? Gabby wondered.

"Okay, thanks." She said taking a deep breath. "It's Savannah Brooks." Brenna said getting ready for the flow of questions she was sure were coming. Her eyes narrowed when she said the name the memory of that week was awful.

Gabby's eyes widened in suprise and her mouth fell open. She quickly recovered herself and questions filled her mind. "Vannah? How come? I mean, Vannah has a child?" She asked in amazement, that might explain why she was so bitter.

Brenna shook her head. "No, it was two years ago. My brother would have been here as a seventh year but he got permission to finish school a year early so he could join the Irish Quidditch Team. She was visiting the school. I guess her parents made her, but it didn't seem like she wan'ted to be there at all. It was horrible that week. No one could control her. My brother cam down for a few days to visit me. I hadn't seen him in months. And then..." Brenna trailed off as she recollected this part.

Gabby absorbed all the information, but it was incomprehensible. Questions swirled around in Gabby's mind but she clenched her jaws together to see if Brenna would continue.

"She did all kind of horrible things. She set our Headmistress's office on fire and she nearly killed one of my friends. I was completely out of it one night when I went to find comfort in my brother. He was staying in a nearby hotel rrom. When got to his room, I heard voices. I knew it was Vannah. It sounded like she was seducing him or something, so I left in tears. She must've given him a love potion or something, because he is not like that. He had a girlfriend on his Quidditch Team, he would never do that to anyone on purpose. Six months later he gets a letter saying he's going to be a father soon. I told him about the things she did to our school, our home. He knew it wasn't right for her to keep the baby to he took it one night when she was gone. She left a horrible babysitter. When he got there the baby was screaming and its face was red. He took and never told her where he was. He left a note saying it was him, but he told me she came to his place in Ireland. I don't even know how she knew where it was, but she couldn't find him. She sent threats of all sorts, but eventually she backed off." Brenna finished the story. "She would've been a bad mother. He had to do it. It was best for the baby."

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

Gabby's mind was reeling and she couldn't form any words. "I'm glad your brother did take your nephew, he doesn't deserve a mother like Vannah." was what she finally came up with. At a loss as to what to say, Gabby busied herself clearing the table of the finished cups and plate, but she left Brenna her coffee cup as it still had some in.

Brenna nodded. "Yes, but I was very upset with him when he did that. It's not right. Maybe in time Vannah would have learned. He shouldn't have just taken him like that. He could have at least let someone know where he is. I can't imagine how hard it must've been to come home and realize your son is gone forever."
