"No fair." Brooke yelled after him making a run of her own. Sure she hadn't exactly started heading for the lake until after he was already in the water but he had looked all nice and distracting without his skirt on. She dove into the lake and swam towards him before surfacing, taking care to get the stray strands of hair out of her face as she did.

Chase watched Brooke, his lips curved into a smirk, but he waited for her to surface before speaking. "And what, exactly, is fair?" he asked, the words both challenge and tease. Danger. He ignored it and rolled his shoulder, trying to work out the lingering stiffness from the duel. The starburst-patterned scar on his right shoulder was highly visible, stark white lines against his skin that matched the stripe stretching from right shoulder to left hip. He'd forgotten the marks for the moment, but the cool water made his shoulder ache, and his smirk faded slightly.

Brooke just smiled at him before speaking, fair really was a subjective concept and she knew it but she still had to give some kind of answer "Fair is giving me at least a little more warning before you go running off like that." She noticed the scar on his shoulder and thought it looked cool, wondering for a moment if it might have been somehow purposeful and then she noticed that he didn't seem exactly comfortable in his movements. "Anything I can help you with."

Chase had little difficulty following the direction of Brooke's gaze. Danger! It was incredibly tempting to ask her to work the kinks out of his muscles. He thought of Dru. His jaw tensed. "I'm fine," he said, the lie sparking crimson at the edges of his eyes. "Just a little stiff." Chase forced himself to move, to swim idly, hoping the motion would relax him.

Brooke sighed "Whatever you say, though its not like I could make it any worse." She wasn't sure if she believed him a hundred percent but she also knew that guys in general had problems admitting to any kind of weakness. It was a trait that Brooke found to be admirable but sometimes also stupid. She glided back a short ways and then started to tread water again.

Oh hell yes, she could make it worse, Chase thought. He could just imagine the misery of letting her lay hands on him without being able to react. As it was, he was relying heavily on the distraction of the ache in his shoulder to keep him from getting too close to turn back. Chase felt a moment's resentment for Dru, and for monogamy in general. He didn't realize he'd fallen silent, nor that he was watching Brooke intently. She was temptation.

Brooke's smile didn't falter as her eyes studied Chase's face, he hadn't struck her as a quiet person and she didn't understand the reason for the silence now. She could almost feel him looking back at her and her eyes met his gaze for a moment "a knut for you thoughts." She said gliding slightly closer to him. It was getting to the point where she wanted to know but that was mostly because silent staring had a tendency to be a bit awkward.

Chase's lips curved into a wicked and entirely unconscious grin at her question. "Believe me, you don't want to know," he said. His thoughts had already moved beyond the improper into the illicit. Still, Chase didn't swim away, but treaded water again, letting Brooke come to him. He told himself that he shouldn't have gotten in the water, not if he was going to hold back, and definitely not if he was going to end up breaking, but he wasn't ready to give up his private challenge yet.

At least then it must be something normal, Brooke thought upon seeing the grin, as far as she knew guys were always thinking about things that they weren't all too eager to share. "Of course I don't." She said moving even closer until there was less then a foot between them. "But that doesn't make me any less curious."

God, he was tempted. He should end it now, but all the same, he found himself taking the bait. "They say curiosity killed the cat." It wasn't nearly the warning it could have been. All he could think of was the rest of that saying. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back.

Brooke smile brightened for a moment people never seemed to finish that saying but instead of finishing it for him she decided to answer a bit differently "Yeah but cats have nine lives and they never stay dead." She moved just slightly forward, wondering how this would all end.

He wanted to keep it up. He told himself he could take it farther without crossing the line, but he couldn't stop Dru from intruding, no matter how many times he pushed her out of his thoughts. "I'm not a cat," he said at last, coldly, distancing himself from the temptation. He wasn't a cat, he wasn't curious. He wasn't. Chase turned and swam for shore.

Brooke was shocked by his reaction but not enough to actually show it as she followed after him "Excuse me but I don't believe I called you one. I thought I was the one being referred to in that statement." After all she was the one who had said she was curious leading to the whole conversation right. What happened to make everything about him.

It had been about her, but he needed to get out, get away, and he wasn't thinking clearly. He needed to find Dru and figure out where they stood, but after their last meeting, she was one of the last people he wanted to see. The uncertainty was driving him up the wall. "It's my problem, not yours," Chase called to Brooke as he got out of the water.

Vannah was just about to go flying, but she took a detour to the Lake to see if she could find the broken snitch she had accidentally dropped this morning. Her head was down until she heard voices, both of them familiar. Her head shot up and a smirk appeared on her face. She was shocked to see Chase out of the Hospital Wing....and with wet abs nonetheless. Vannah grinned to herself before abruptly pushing all thoughts involving Chase and his wet torso out of her mind. It was something she tried not to think about....too much.
Vannah was surprised, but in an ironic kind of way, to see the girl he was with was Brooke. From the Room of Requirement. And he was walking away? There was something wrong with that picture. Brooke was clearly ready to throw herself at him. "Chase, is that you? Freed from bed rest and escaping the clutches of a Gryffindor?" Vannah had come closer, but she still had to yell slightly. "No one can blame you, really." She sneered as she gave Brooke the onceover.
