"Hm. I haven't been there once that someone wasn't already there. It's like the Slytherins can't stay away. Damn Slytherins," Chase added. He glanced aside at Michael. "No offense, man."

Michael smiled, "None taken, I know what you mean. I think I'd give anything to not be in this house, but it fits me," he said, a sad smile coming across his face. It did fit him, or at least certain parts of him, things he had done.

Chase shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't seen any of the cleverness and determination, just the arrogance and love of hurting others." Or maybe he'd seen a determination to be arrogant and cleverness in ways of hurting others. Chase shrugged again. "I guess I'm arrogance," he said with a smirk.

"I suppose I'm the 'love of hurting others,'" he said, a bitter smile turning one corner of his mouth. "Think I'd rather have yours, mate." He'd rather be arrogant than hurt anyone else, whether it be someone he loved or someone he had just met down a corridor.

Chase grinned and flicked at an imaginary piece of lint on his sleeve. "Yeah, arrogant is a hell of a lot of fun," he said. "You ought to try it, man." He looked over at Michael appraisingly. "So what is it then? Tripping first-years? Or hexing people for laughs?" He didn't really look like the tripping type, but you never could tell.

"More like torturing people I've just met and lieing to my girlfriend," ex-girlfriend, he amended to himself. Michael shrugged, "But I've been sober since December," he said with a weak smile.

"Good to hear," Chase replied, smirking. He could tell that there was a lot more to the story than Michael was saying, but he wouldn't push. It wasn't any of his business. "So what do you do when you're sober?" Chase asked. He toyed with a loose thread on the sleeve of his robe a moment before giving it a sharp tug, snapping it free.

"Try to not get myself killed, basically." Michael looked down, scuffing his shoe on the stone floor. "Read a lot, stay in the forest most of the time." He crossed his arms, "So, what do you do?"

Chase's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "I spread good cheer, mate," he answered, his eyes gleaming with humor. "Mostly around the female population." An activity that didn't endear him in the least to the male population. They didn't seem to like the competition.

Michael laughed softly, "I'm willing to bet you have some fun with that. I know I won't get in your way." He had had enough with girls for now, he wasn't over Dru and he didn't feel like looking for anyone else, and didn't think he would for a long time yet.

Chase shrugged casually. "Your loss is my gain," he said, smiling. "This school really isn't so bad. I haven't been bored once in the last two weeks." Which was a record, he was pretty sure.

"The school's great, great to get lost in, though it can be oppressive at times." There had been times when the walls had seemed to close in on Michael, trapping him, refusing to let him go, at those times he had just slipped into the Room of Requirement. "But that's what the grounds and the Room of Requirement's for."

Chase's eyebrows rose a notch. "What's the Room of Requirement?" he asked. Though he'd been there, he hadn't recognized it, or known that the room was changeable, nor that it had appeared only because he'd asked it to.

"This room, you walk past the wall three times, thinking of what you want, and a door will pop up," Michael said, it had been a while since he had went into it. "Go in and it's become whatever you wanted it to be, and when you leave, it's gone again."

Chase's eyes lit up as he made the connection. A moment later, his lips spread into a grin as he looked out into the corridor, thinking about that room and the possibilities. "I think I know what you're talking about," he said. It explained a lot. It also told him a lot about Druscilla. "It's across from that tapestry of the guy teaching trolls ballet, isn't it?" he asked absently, eyes gleaming.
