Michael was seated in a small alcove practically behind a statue. He watched the flow of students going into dinner in the Great Hall, he had taken to not eating except very early in the morning and was only in the Entrance Hall so that he could escape the monotany of the Slytherin common room. A brown haired girl caught his eye momentarily and he started, only to realize her robes were yellow instead of blue. He hunched back once more, glaring at a little first year through his long, dark red hair.

Chase fully intended on claiming a nice out-of-the-way spot of wall to watch the crowd from, but the most promising spot was already taken when he got there. Chase leaned against the wall nearby a minute and measured the guy up, but decided not to back off. He'd never been much for having guy friends, or at least not since he'd hit the age of thirteen, so he didn't bother trying to make conversation, but gave a brief nod of his head that would do fine for a greeting.

Michael glared when the other guy walked up. He didn't return the nod, just wrapped his arms loosely around his knees and continued to stare out into the crowd. The tide of students was ebbing now, most of the students were already in the Great Hall and a dull roar was coming through the open doors. A few stragglers were still running towards the doors, robes flying behind them. Vaguely he wondered who the other guy was, having never seen him around the grounds before.

Chase didn't miss the guy's glare, or his immediate dismissal. He narrowed his eyes, which flashed red a moment before settling on a nearly transparent crimson sheen. "What's your problem?" he asked, though it sounded more like a demand.

Michael tilted his head to the side and looked up at the other guy. "I didn't say anything to you," he said, rolling his eyes and looking away. He stood up, stretching, he had been sitting down for nearly half an hour.

Chase pushed away from the wall. "I didn't say you did. I said, what's your problem?" He got more than enough eye-rolling from Storm, though at least she wasn't so much mocking him as laughing. He could handle being laughed at as long as he deserved it, which he usually did around her.

Michael sighed and turned to him. "I don't have a problem," he said quietly, "I can't help it you're so sensitive as to take a look to heart." He walked in front of the other guy, planning to head back to the common room, which was surely empty by now.

Chase was more suprised than anything. He'd seen the guy's robes and automatically assumed the worst. Slytherin = jerk At least he thought the guy was a Slytherin. He didn't look afraid of Chase, to say the least. "Where are you going? Man, I didn't mean you had to get lost." Chase wondered for a moment if he wasn't the only one who'd been sorted on sight.

Michael stopped and looked at him. "Well, considering I really don't feel like being around people at the moment," did he ever? Not since the attack anyway. "And the common room's probably empty because everyone's in there," he jerked a thumb behind him towards the Great Hall, "I was planning on going back there, for once it'll be quiet." No talking about the latest first year someone had tormented, no speaking of dreams of becoming a death eater. Just peace and quiet.

"All right, man. Sorry to bother you." Chase leaned back against the wall again for just a moment before he decided he may as well ask. They guy was a Slytherin after all, and he'd been doing just what Chase had intended on doing; watching the crowd. "Hey, do you know Vannah?" Chase nodded his head toward the open doors to the Great Hall. "Is she in there?" Chase didn't trust the girl not to start something up. Hell, she'd accosted him in a corridor and done about everything she could to keep him from walking away. He didn't look forward to sitting near her, though if she was off with her Hufflepuff boyfriend, it was all the better for both of them.

"Doesn't ring a bell, but there's not many girls I know in this place." Michael's eyes glazed over for a moment, thinking about Dru. "Wait, I do recognize that, Savannah, right? I met up with her in the hall a day or so ago, she's rather annoying." The thought of their meeting brought a smirk to his lips, though. "But no, I didn't see her go in."

Chase's shoulders relaxed a bit in visible relief. "She's more than annoying, man. She's devil incarnate. Hot, but not worth it." Chase glanced at the doors, thinking he might actually go eat something. He looked back at the guy, thinking maybe he was worth talking to. "I'm Chase Firebrand," he said, lifting a hand in greeting.

Michael smiled at Chase's description of Savannah. "Michael Hardt," he said, taking Chase's hand. "I'm assuming you're new?" he asked, putting his hands in his pockets. It would be good to have someone to talk to.

Chase shrugged. "For now," he said. "Been here about a week, but I've been around. Been in the forest, been in the lake," he added, smirking with good humor. He didn't mention the girls. He did it for fun, not the reputation.

"I've not been to the lake in months," too many bad memories, "Though the forest's always good. Especially when you want to be alone." Michael walked to the wall beside Chase and leaned against it, hands still in his pockets.
