"I have no idea, I don't even know all of the options. I'd planned originally to see the lake and the quidditch pitch but ah...plans change, apparently." The grounds and castle were both enormous and probably had an almost endless amount of places to explore. "I'm sure we could get completely lost in the castle, if we wanted."

Andy nodded, and thought about it. They could try to get lost in the castle, but the first and only time he'd tried that, a professor had walked in. Not only that, but a professor who actually knew him. "Um, we could still go see the lake if you wanted," Andy suggested. "I mean, we don't have to if you want to look around the castle, but it's pretty outside." He wasn't about to tell Gavin about Castiel Catalyst, and the quidditch pitch was a definite no. It was way too close to under the bleachers, and he wasn't a sl~.

"Lake, then," Gavin agreed, shifting their path toward the lake. At least, he hoped he picked the right direction. It seemed to be the right choice. "I've always enjoyed the water, so it's nice that there's a lake, I'm a rower." Maybe they could find something to talk about that managed to stay on topic instead of flipping back to the vague uncertain almost-worry.

You said that earlier, Andy thought, but looked impressed all the same. And maybe sneaked a glance at Gavin's arms. The last time sports had come up, he'd been trying not to find the guy attractive. "I don't even know how to swim," Andy said. "Do you have to know how if you want to row?" Maybe not. Maybe they all wore life vests or something.

"Well, it certainly helps," Gavin said. He wouldn't want to go out on the water without knowing how to swim, life vest or no. "I could teach you." It was only after he said it that he realized the implication, and his cheeks colored. He'd spent hours in the water with guys, he definitely shouldn't blush thinking about swimming with Andy.

"That'd be nice," Andy said. "We should do it sometime—I mean, do that sometime. I'd have to get something to wear..." It hadn't once occurred to him that he'd be going into the lake, and so all he had was jeans and underwear, and there was no way anyone was seeing his underwear. "I hope it stays nice outside," he added, looking up at the sky. He'd never been an outdoors-type person, but then, he'd never been anywhere like this.

We should do it sometime. Where did all of this blushing come from? It was as though years of confidence and a lack of blushing was catching up with him. "I've seen pictures of this place in winter covered in a foot or more of snow. It's like something out of a fantasy novel. Do wizards go sledding?" he asked.

"I don't know," Andy said with a shrug. He glanced aside at Gavin. "If we go sledding, they do," he added. "I've never been sledding, either. It sounds like fun." He looked around as they approached trees and the first glittering glimpse of water sparkled between them. He wished he could bring Tam here. Tam would run around in the leaves and try to climb trees and stuff. Andy was content just looking.

"It sounds like I've got a lot of things to introduce you to," Gavin said. "I suppose I should start keeping a list of potential future dates." His eyes widened and he glanced over at Andy, distracted from the water at his own minor slip. If it even counted as a slip. "Not that I'm presuming there will be dates."

Andy's lips had curved at that slip, and he gave Gavin a sidelong look. "You can call it dates if you want," he said. Gavin didn't have to, of course, and Andy wouldn't hold him to anything that came up, but it was a lovely thought. Gavin could presume all he wanted. Andy only just held down a sigh. Maybe Castiel Catalyst was gorgeous, but Gavin was tall, strong, and dreamy.

Gavin still couldn't believe his first kiss had happened crouched beneath a bookstore window, much less think of future dates as something that could actually happen. "We can just call it slacking off, and no one will have any idea," he said. He smiled at Andy before his gaze turned to the lake, which finally appeared in all its glory. Ripples and waves glinted in the sunlight, and a tentacle swept lazily toward the clouds towards the middle. "It's brilliant," he breathed.

Andy's smile had widened to a grin at Gavin's suggestion. Slacking off had never sounded better. Maybe he should have been looking at the water, but Gavin was distracted by it, and Andy took the opportunity to really look. If he had a type, a high-class, preppy jock most definitely wouldn't be it, but that didn't seem to matter at all. Gavin was like... perfect. He stood so straight, and talked so well. His hair looked like it just fell perfectly all on its own, and his clothes fit so well. And those arms... When Andy finally turned his gaze forward, it was to keep down any visual signs of his interest.

Gavin, on the other hand, practically forgot about his newfound interest at the sight of the water. "If I just had my gear, I could be in the middle of the lake in half a minute," he said, eyes bright as he eagerly approached the shore. His hand slipped from Andy's. "We could both be there. We could shake hands with the squid. I wonder how deep it is, if I could hit the bottom without any aids."

Andy was a little in awe of Gavin just then, and completely lost as to what he should say. The lake was huge, and none of the things Gavin wondered would ever have occurred to him. He let himself be happy knowing that Gavin had said we could both be there. "Was that really a squid?" he asked. How did Gavin know so much? He got that there had been tutoring, but really had no concept of one-on-one learning. He also had no concept of remembering so much of what he'd learned.

"It's in Hogwarts: A History. My tutor gave me the book to read when my parents agreed to let me come here," Gavin said. "Supposedly it will help students if they need it. I've read of first years who fall out of boats and get helped out of the water by the squid." If water was a strange thing to be excited about, he didn't quite realize it. Most of his time was spent with other guys who enjoyed the same things he did, including water.
