Why was it so easy to just wrap his arms around her and believe? Love at first sight was something Silver had thought only existed in stories, and this was more like love at first date, anyway. His instincts had latched onto her, and it made him feel good, really good instead of just hopeful. He knew they'd come in here to skate together, but couldn't help stealing a kiss instead.

It was good to have a kiss, just a bit of something else to think about and help relax. Ayla tilted her head and pulled close to him, lingering for some time before finally breaking the kiss. "Come on, let's see how long it takes for you to be able to stand on a board," she teased. Honestly, he had far too much body to control on a board, she thought.

"I think I'll leave the skateboarding to you," Silver chuckled, sitting down on a bench out of the way. "It's a lot harder than it looks."

Ayla grinned as she rode slowly by on a board. "If you say so," she said. "I'll teach the kid, get 'im one of those little boards for kids." There were tiny boards that were great starters, she'd seen them in stores. She barely thought of the fact that she'd labeled the kid him when they hadn't even thought of asking the healer about it.

"You think it's a boy?" Silver asked. He'd picked up on that, and he wondered if mothers had some kind of sixth sense about those things. Mothers. That was a heavy thought. So far he'd been thinking of them as normal and there just being a kid. He was going to be a father, though. Or was he already a father?

Ayla was quiet as she leaned to turn and make another pass in front of Silver. "I dunno, I think maybe it'd be cool," she said. Maybe. If she could keep herself from thinking about the all too possible chance her life was now completely ruined. It was better to think of the cool stuff that might happen than whatever fear and uncertainty was there. The skating had helped.

"Yeah, it'd be cool," Silver agreed. "Should we be thinking of names or something?" His gaze dropped and he shook his head a little at himself. "I just want to be able to do something." Going off to university wasn't helpful to Ayla or the baby, just to himself really.

Ayla thought it was probably too early to be thinking about names, though maybe she was wrong and it'd be better to start thinking early. She shifted the direction of the board to glide to him and kicked the board away to sit by him. "You can tell me why I shouldn't be scared," she said after some bit of silence, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Silver withheld a sigh and brought his arms up to hold Ayla. "There are a lot worse things than a baby," he said softly. He really should tell her, even if everything he'd read said that his health issue, for lack of a better euphemism, couldn't be passed on that way. Now didn't feel like the time, but when was the time? After she decided to marry him? When the Blackwoods finally got off their butts to finish what they'd started? He knew from his father's mistake that the right time would never come.
So he made his mouth open and made himself start with a day he'd only spoken of to the odd counselor, and let himself end with how everything was taken care of. He was safe, and he'd done enough research that he felt very knowledgeable about things. He'd never told a friend, never told a girlfriend, but it needed said. He skipped the emotional details, skipped the upsetting visual of it he still carried. He didn't want pity.
"Sometimes life just throws stuff at you," he said, drawing to the end of that particular story. "You can let it drive you crazy, or you can go with it and keep living. We've got my brother and Michael at our back. If you ever need anything and you can't find me, you can trust them. And they know. Hogwarts is safe. We'll make it."

Ayla didn't know what made it happen, but at some point the tears that had been threatening since the original announcement started, though thankfully they weren't the desperate ones they would have been before. "I'm sorry that happened to you," she said softly. However, if Silver had gotten through that, this didn't seem so bad.

"I wouldn't be who I am without it," Silver replied. His hand shifted to run lightly over Ayla's hair, the motion a comfort for both of them, maybe. "I was afraid for a while, and I was angry even though I didn't know who to be angry at, but..." But what? He'd had years to think about this, hadn't he? And he'd never had to put it in words. He'd written and written, but this was different.
"For a couple years it made me want to keep to myself," he said. "I was always in Dare's shadow and I didn't mind because that let me do what I wanted and no one noticed. I was afraid of what people would think." He was afraid of being ostracized for something he'd had no control over.
"The Headmistress didn't have a problem with it, she helped me with everything. I'm comfortable with it now. I made peace with it." He didn't mean the attack itself, but the results. It was part of him that he didn't mind. "I figure I can deal with anything now." His shirt was damp, but he didn't have anything to offer Ayla, so he didn't say anything about her tears, just stroked her hair.

Ayla shifted slightly, enough to raise her hand and undo the bandanna to wipe at her eyes, hating it was necessary. "I bet you can, and I bet you'll be amazing at university," she said. She didn't think he needed to be in Dare's shadow, maybe him being at a different school would help separate the two a little.

Silver's lips curved, the excitement he felt about the whole thing more powerful than any lingering worries about it. "It'll be awesome," he said. He pressed a kiss to Ayla's hair. "The Headmistress there is cool about everything too. Is it weird to say I'll miss you?" They'd been together less than a day, but everything fit together so well that it didn't seem like it.

Ayla shook her head. "No, I'll miss you, too." Even if they'd only been together a day, it was the culmination of months of talking and hanging out around classes. She had the strangest feeling there would be times she would miss him more than was comfortable. "When are you moving? Like, when does the term start?" Maybe they'd at least have a bit of time to get used to being together.

"I'm not starting until the autumn semester," Silver said. "I planned on going to my dad's when the faire is over, but I'd rather stay here." He looked down at her. She was the reason he wanted to stay. "I know a couple people I could stay with." Even if he didn't ask his brother for a spare room, he was fairly sure that Grey wouldn't mind letting him stay an extra month or so. "Are you going home for the rest of summer?" He hoped not.
