Castiel had frowned and sulked ever since he'd gotten his letter from Cheyenne. He'd been livid—livid!—and hadn't wanted to talk about it. Now that he'd written his response though, it seemed like he ought to explain. He'd told Mari about his letters to and from Lani. She had annoyed him with her little reference to how different they were, and that she wasn't missing out on anything. How did she know that? What a snob!
It was Cheyenne's letter, however, that had truly pissed him off. You can do whatever you want, my King, as long as you don't mind me making out with Blake Dielmann, she'd written. Blake Dielmann! If Castiel was the type to swear, he'd have quite a few words about that guy!
He shoved Cheyenne's letter in Mari's direction as they headed for the Owl Post. "Can you believe her?!" he demanded. "We were drunk, and she did that on purpose!" Whatever else he might have done on purpose didn't count. He hadn't told her about those, and he certainly hadn't thrown them in her face. "I apologized to her! And she didn't even dump me, she just rubbed it in! Am I supposed to dump her, or what?"

"I think she's being stupid," Mari said, taking the letter for fear of papercuts if it were waved around too much. "Maybe you should dump her, just to get back at her, even if you wanna stay. Then you could owl her back in a couple of days saying you'll take her back or something. Or she'll have to beg, which would be like totally funny." It might probably be better if Castiel just broke up with her for good, though.

"I'd like to see her beg," Castiel said bitterly. "But what if I dump her and she gets with Blake? He's a jerk! He's like, such a jerk that he makes the word jerk look bad and all the other jerks are offended! He's such a jerk that his name is Blake! What kind of... of... douchebag... is named Blake?!" Castiel had never been friends with Blake, but now it seemed like he'd always hated him, and every word the guy had ever spoken had been layered with foulness.

"The really douchey kind," Mari said reasonably. "And if she ends up with Blake, then it just means she's really, really stupid and kinda very *friendly* personty and you deserve better than really, really stupid and kinda very *friendly* personty." He knew how excited Castiel had been to get in the relationship, but things had changed now, and maybe it would be better for both halves of the couple if they split.

Castiel's frown deepened to a scowl. If Cheyenne was going to be sl~~y, she should have been sl~~y for him. He hadn't been all patient and stuff so she'd be ready for Blake to stick his stupid puny d~ in her.
"You're right, I totally deserve better," Castiel said. He snatched the letter back and tore it in half, but partway through tearing it in quarters decided he'd rather keep the letter to torment himself with. He crumpled it angrily and shoved it into his pocket. He paused a moment in the street to dig out the letter he was sending back to her and pulled off the black ribbon that tied it.
"I'm changing the end of this right now!" He went back into a different pocket after his pen.

"Go for it," Mari said. He had no qualms about encouraging the breakup. As far as he was aware, it could only turn out to be a good thing, and it was better for Castiel to do the breaking up than to be broken up with. "She'll think about you all the time and think about how stupid she was to mess up so bad and lose someone awesome like you."

"She totally will!" Castiel agreed. He made a motion for Mari to turn around so he could write corrections against his back. "She won't even be able to read Cauldron anymore because I was in it, and I'll be in it again and maybe I'll be making out with someone even hotter than she is, who isn't a sl~! Or, or someone who is a sl~, but only for me!" Like Cheyenne should have been.

"Definitely," Mari said as he turned. He looked over his shoulder at his friend. "You could totally make out with that skater chick again. Or anyone. Like, literally anyone. You could do whatever you wanted, and you don't have to report to anyone. Well, except me, because I wanna know." Even if it was a girl, because it would probably make Castiel super happy.

"Then I'll totally tell you," Castiel said, scribbling through the bottom of his letter. He scribbled just a few words, then flipped the page over and began writing furiously on the back of the page. "Be with Blake!" he muttered angrily. "Not a queen... peasant!" He gave a sharp sound of satisfaction and hurried to an end. "Nevermore! That'll show her!" He finished off the letter with an obvious flourish, then tucked it under one arm and pulled off his hat. He didn't care if removing the ribbon killed it, he wouldn't wear it another minute!

Mari plucked the letter from Castiel's fingers to read over it, then nodded in approval before he handed it back. "She's gonna feel like an idiot. And I bet all her friends are gonna think she's stupid for losing you." Probably not entirely true, but there would at least be one or two who sided with Castiel over the whole thing, he was sure of it.

Without the letter to keep track of, Castiel pulled out his wand and worked the ribbon free of its sticking Charm. Cheyenne had given it to him before he'd left, that and a particularly memorable kiss. Well, he didn't need to remember it anymore, and he didn't need any tokens of an affection she probably never had. When he was finished, he put the hat back on at a jaunty angle and took his letter back.
"She'll totally know what this means," he said, rolling the letter so that the empty space at the end of the back was all that showed. He tied the thick velvet ribbon around it, then knotted it for good measure. "I'll dress really awesome so I can get in the magazine again. Then I'll owl her the page I'm on so she'll really be sorry!"

"You should totally do that," Mari said. "We could even go shopping and you could get awesome new clothes to show off. We could walk around London or something so people can see how great you are. We can walk around London, she can't. She'll probably never be cool enough to get to London." He might be having a little bit of fun, but it was all in the name of sticking by Castiel's side.

"She'll be stuck in Florida forever while we go all over Europe looking awesome," Castiel agreed. "And we get to be in classes with the Blackwood-Hardts and Hells Dumbledore and Grey Sebastien and walk by Trent Frey's shop like nothing just to send an owl! And we totally met Markise Sterling and she didn't!" He felt a smug satisfaction at that. When she sent the corset back she wouldn't even have anything that Markise had touched, and Castiel had things he'd made.

Mari nodded, but failed to respond as they entered the post office. He'd gotten a note telling him to come to the post that morning. He had no idea what exactly was waiting for him, but he was excited. There was an old hunch-backed wizard at the counter ahead of them. Excitement started building and he reached for Castiel's arm. It took longer than he would have liked for the wizard to shuffle away. He dragged Castiel forward to sign for a paper-wrapped package.

Castiel peered over Mari's shoulder, still bitter, but willing to put it aside for the moment's curiosity. It said it was from Taira Seiji, and had some Japanese writing on it along with the English. The package was quite a bit bigger than Castiel had expected. Mari had said he might be getting candy, but all the Japanese candy they'd had came in little packages. "Are you going to open it here?" Castiel asked.
