"That's where you grew up, right? Why'd you move out?" Ayla asked. She'd never moved before, though she would like to do a little traveling at some point in her life. She hoped she would get lucky and get a deal, then she would be able to travel for shoots, which she thought would be fun.

"Oh, ah..." Silver looked down at his butterbeer and turned it slightly in his fingers. "My dad's from England. Mom died, and he brought us out here for a fresh start." It was almost easy to say now, despite the fact that he knew it wasn't the whole truth. It was very little of the truth, really. The rest was too much to talk about though. "It's been almost four years now."

Ayla's eyebrows came together and concern washed over her face. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know." Obviously she hadn't known. "I, ah, I was raised by my aunt and uncle. My mum left me with 'em, you know?" It happened sometimes and though she was just a little bitter over the situation, she supposed the woman had to have had some reason for it.

Oh. "That sucks," Silver said, looking back up at Ayla. "Are they good to you?" He couldn't imagine it, though he supposed not even knowing his extended family had something to do with that. He couldn't believe it had been almost four years since Mom died. Five since the rest. He couldn't help thinking about it on the anniversary, but normally didn't brood on it all.

"Aye. I mean they didn't really want kids, but they did the best they could. I'm ready to get out, but that's not 'cause of them, not really," Ayla said. The two had always been aunt and uncle, never mum and dad, and that caused a bit of distance between them and her, but they had never been bad to her. It was worlds better than her life would have been had her mum kept her.

"Yeah," Silver said. He looked at his bottle again, turning it in his fingers for something to do with them. "When I get out of school, I don't want to go home. Like, with my dad. He could probably get me a job in the Ministry, but I don't know. It's weird thinking of really being on my own."

"Yeah, but it's worth it. You could postpone life with university, though. If you go you'll get to learn your fancy magic and you won't have to worry about actually living off on your own," Ayla said. She didn't know much about university, but it was basically Hogwarts with older students, right?

"It'd still be on my own though," Silver said. "Sort of, anyway. I haven't been away from Dare since he started wizarding school, and that was only a year." A year he didn't have to be at home, envying Dare his adventure. He mentally sighed. However he might have been held back, it had done what it was supposed to. He loved his brother more than anything.

"Ah, you're close to him, then?" Ayla asked. She had no siblings, no relatives of her own age at all. Most of her interaction had been due to taking her own initiative and running off to the park or some other gathering place for the neighborhood children. She somehow didn't think it was the same as having a sibling.

"I guess," Silver said. "We used to hang out in a lot of the same groups in school, share a lot of the same friends. When you're that close in age, it just happens." They had a lot of shared history, and yet there were still so many differences between them. He'd been happy in his brother's shadow, for the most part.

"Well, maybe it's time to break out a little? Find your own group and stuff," Ayla said. She lifted her butterbeer to busy her mouth for a moment. What did she know about that kind of thing, anyway? "Not saying it's a bad thing, but sometimes change is good." Shouldn't Silver be out of Hogwarts by now, too?

"I guess," Silver said, looking down at his butterbeer. His experiences with change hadn't been for the better, but he couldn't stay in school forever. Well, he couldn't remain a Hogwarts student forever. He took a sip of butterbeer, then set his bottle on the table. "I'll go on to the university," he decided. I've got to move on some time, and maybe it'll help me figure out what I want to do. I don't know how they expect us to have the next century planned out when we're seventeen anyway."

"Definitely," Ayla said, nodding. "I mean, I've got this idea of what I want to do, but in five years it might not work out. I feel bad for the people who are all dead-set on somethin', then it don't work out." Especially when picking the wrong N.E.W.T. level classes could ruin career choices.

"I always wanted to be a writer," Silver said, looking down at his butterbeer. "But it's not going to happen unless I show someone my work, and I'm not interested in that." Somehow he'd had this idea that he'd end up writing some great novel and submitting it somewhere, but all he produced was his short stories, poems, and bits and pieces of things.

"You gotta show your work to get noticed," Ayla said. She would never get anywhere if she didn't show someone her pictures. "Got anything else you thought of doing? Me, I thought about being a skater, but who ever heard of a witch skater?" She wasn't anywhere near good enough, anyway. Maybe she could have been if she had worked harder, but she hadn't.
