Castiel hadn't gotten a chance to read the magazine a snowy owl had brought him at breakfast. If his professors weren't all celebrities, and gorgeous at that, he might have sneaked peeks during class, but as it was, he didn't manage to open it until after school.
Mari was supposed to meet him here so they could work on an assignment together, but his last class was further away, so Castiel had set himself at a table and brought out the newest issue of Cauldron, his bible.
Style Issue, the cover read. Well, if you could pull your eyes away from the girl gracing the cover, anyway. She was familiar from the corridors, but he didn't know her name. Did she have a name? With violet eyes, flowing hair and... certain endowments, it didn't really matter.
What mattered was getting through as much of this as he could, as fast as he could. He could reread it slower later.
He got as far as page 36 before he stopped short. Oh. My. God.

Mari was moving through the corridors much more quickly than he should have. It earned him a few glares, but it was snowing outside. Snowing. Like actually snowing. With drifts on the windowsills and collecting on the lawns. He had to get to Castiel and then get outside and figure out what they were supposed to do with snow.
"Kurai-Kun!" he said excitedly when he finally got to his friend. "Have you looked outside? It's so cool, there's snow! And it's still coming down, and everyone says it's gonna come down for a while longer!"

Castiel hardly heard Mari for his own excitement as he held up the magazine, peeled back to a page with a number of smallish photos on it. "We're in Cauldron!" he hissed. Mari's excitement made sense, but how had he known?! Had Mari known first? He knew he should have just opened it in Divination!
"Wait, what? snow?" He didn't know what to be more excited about!

"Wait, what?" Mari echoed. He sat down beside Castiel and leaned in to look at the magazine. "You're kidding, we're in the magazine?!" Yep, there they were, both of them. He couldn't believe it even with it there on the page. It was so strange seeing himself winking up at him. "That is so cool!" He reached for the magazine to lay it down and flip through the pages, totally forgetting about the snow.

Castiel swatted Mari's arm. "You said there was snow," he prompted, but gave up when his friend flipped toward the back of the magazine. "No, no, that's the last page we're on, go this way." He pulled it back toward him and started flipping further forward. "We're both on 58, then I'm on 52 and you've got a huge picture on 36..." He glanced away from the magazine, looking for a window, but he was torn. Snow! Cauldron!

"It's me and Hyacinth!" Mari said. "And these are really good pictures of you, where did they get them?" Maybe there was a photographer that was an animagus like that Rita Skeeter woman and snuck around with a teeny camera. Yes, he knew that Trent was the photographer, but maybe he was an animagus.

"I don't know, I recognize the bench, but I don't remember," Castiel said. It was a recent picture, it had his new hat in it and everything. "Maybe there's another photographer at the school, or they got us in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley." And yes, they were good pictures, each and every one of them, and one of his was right next to Markise Sterling.

Maybe Diagon Alley, it was the only place they'd really spent any time, and there were people everywhere there. "We're gonna have to look our best all the time," he said, finally looking up from the pages. "Just in case. You don't want to be in the magazine with ugly hair or something." Not that either of them ever had ugly hair. Ever.

"I never have ugly hair," Castiel said, echoing Mari's thoughts. "And yours just gets better when it's messy, anyway." He knew that the volume and texture of his friend's hair was well-crafted, but couldn't imagine him looking anything less than amazing, no matter what.
"Are you done gawking?" he asked after a moment. "We can read any time we want, you said there was snow outside, didn't you?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah!" Marius pulled his eyes away from the magazine to look at his friend. "It's everywhere, I bet it's super deep now." Well, really he couldn't know, he had no way of knowing how much snow had fallen, or of how to gauge something like that. "We've gotta go out. It'll be cold, but we know charms and stuff, we can thaw out back in here!"

"We have to get our coats!" Why did their dorms have to be in towers? They should all be near the doors so they could get their things and go outside faster. "I'd race you, but I know you'd beat me. Can you wait in the entrance hall, or am I going to have to go outside and find you?" Snow! They'd been waiting for this since they realized they'd be seeing it.

"Well, yeah, I can, but only if you hurry up and don't prim," Mari said, the last bit a tease. He couldn't help it, he was in a great mood. Really, if the day got any better he would probably just totally explode or something. "Snow, Castiel!" Maybe he would grab an extra scarf and they could even make a snow man.
