"I've always done a lot of work with kids," Rhys said, picking up one of the twins. He wasn't sure which one it was but he hoped it was Alistair, who was already somewhat familiar with him. "How do you two tell them apart?" he asked, glancing toward Dare, as well.

"I just guess," Dare told Rhys, though he was teasing. He gave a quick wink, then turned back to Matthew's question. "She came into the pet shop when Michael owned it. She was like this big." He held his hands in a rough, open ball smaller than a quaffle. "I loved her, and talked Michael into letting me keep her."

"You've got Alistair, he's just a bit bigger," Michael said, reaching for Lestat. That was about as far as he could go toward explaining the differences between the two. It was hard to explain the subtle facial differences that likely only he or Dare could see, so it was just easier not to try.

Keith had been watching Rhys and Michael with the twins with an air of almost curious uncertainty. What the hell did he do if one of the twins started toward him? His musings were interrupted by an excited dog that needed to greet a man she had only seen a couple of times. "Hey," he said, smiling and glad his attention was taken from the twins. He squatted to get down at eye level with her, which soon proved to be a mistake as the overexcited dog took it as an opportunity to play. He quickly lost his balance.

Matthew glanced over in time to see Keith falling to the side and couldn't stop the laughter that burst out at the dog's enthusiastic greeting. "Good thing you don't have a dog, Keith," he said, shaking his head. The man had never been good with dogs.

Rhys smiled, more subdued than Matthew, though the baby in his arms likely had something to do with that. He lowered himself carefully to the blanket and gestured for Michael to join him to get the twins comfortable.

"Watch out, if she licks you it's like acid," Dare said, as straight-faced as he could get. "Takes one hell of a healing potion to undo the damage." He turned back to Matthew. "She's a German Shepherd," he went on. He was very proud of her. She was, after all, his and Michael's first baby.

Keith was entirely distracted by any conversation going on around or about him as the dog saw fit to clean his face. He wasn't a weakling, but fending off an excited dog was a little more complicated than he might have anticipated. It took longer than he would like to admit to manage to stand up again, then reached out a tentative hand to the dog, unsure if it was even a good idea.

"I thought she looked familiar," Matthew said. "I've never seen a black one before, though." Were there other colors that he didn't know about? It wasn't like he was a dog expert, but it was a tad unexpected. He watched Keith, amused at the man's inability to work the dog.

"They're not as common," Dare said, watching Keith's struggle. "Hey, Keith! Tell her to sit and she'll chill out!" It was surprising how many of his and Michael's collective friends had issues with dogs. Discomfort around the twins he could understand, but this was a grown dog, and a well-trained one.

"Um...sit?" Keith didn't know how to deal with dogs. Elouai looked at him, head tilted and ears perked. Apparently just saying sit wasn't enough. He had very rarely met Matthew's dog, or been around dogs in general. "Plants are so much easier!" he argued.

"Keith you've got to be a man about it, show her you're in control or she's not going to listen," Matthew said. Asking the dog politely to sit would never work. Well, he was sure it would if she had been trained to respond to that, but he somehow doubted that Dare would do that.

"Elouai!" Dare barked. The dog's head swung in his direction. "Sit!" Her rump hit the ground almost immediately, though her tail still swung with excitement. "Just say it like you mean it," he told Keith. "You're the Dom, she's the eager sub." He grinned at his metaphor. He knew Keith could take charge when he wanted to.

It was different when it was a dog, though. Keith couldn't quite explain why he was so uncomfortable with commanding someone's pet, but it just felt...strange. "Do you have a ball or something?" Throwing a ball was something he could do and it would be very hard for him to mess that up.

Matthew rolled his eyes and looked over at Dare, "He never got used to my dog, either." Keith had been perpetually confused and uncertain, and the dog had known it. "Maybe we need to send Keith to obedience classes," he added, raising his voice just enough for Keith to hear as well as Dare.
