"Have a seat, Keith," Kane said, gesturing to a seating area off to the side of his office, near a tall, broad bookcase. He had several regular visitors now, and avoided hovering on the other side of a desk whenever possible.
"How are you holding up?"

Keith sighed heavily and shook his head as he sunk into a chair. He didn't want to be in here talking to Kane. He wanted to go home and spend some time with Rowan and forget what had happened with Trent. But now he was unlikely to even see Rowan again today. "I'm...I don't know." He shook his head and leaned forward, putting his elbows on his knees. "I mean, he went f~ing crazy."

"He has a long history of severe depression, and this wasn't his first suicide attempt," Kane said. "It wasn't your fault or anyone else's, but you handled it well. You said that Jory Addison was involved, too?" He'd be calling in the prefect later to speak with him. Lyric was out of his hands now, but maybe some insight would allow him to help better.

"Yeah, I came up on the two. It looked like Trent had been holding Jory up against the wall right before I came up," Keith said. It wasn't really surprising to hear that Trent had a history of this kind of thing, considering what Keith knew, but he really hadn't expected to be thrown in the middle of it.

"Did Jory appear to be hurt in any way?" Kane asked. Yes, he would definitely be speaking with Jory later. "Just tell me what you remember."

"No, Jory looked fine, a little...I don't know, frazzled, maybe," Keith said. "I told Jory to go to his common room, I figured if he needed to be talked to he could be found later. And I figured it was all around safer considering my relationship with Trent."

That was news to Kane. He knew about Lyric's—Trent's—relationship with Jory, his relationship with Quinn, and with his mother, but not with Keith. "Could you tell me about your relationship?" he asked. "This is all confidential, and it might help to get it off your chest."

"Well honestly there's not much to it, I stayed at his place once and he's stayed with me twice. The biggest thing is that he's...he's told me something about his past that, as far as I know, he's only told one other person," Keith said. They didn't have a relationship in the boyfriend sense, but that was just part of the complications.

"That must weigh pretty heavily on you," Kane said. It was also interesting to think about. He'd always gotten the impression that Trent was holding something back, and he had suspicions, but no one had been willing to speak about it. "Do you have any idea why he might have told you?" It seemed odd that he'd tell someone he'd only seen three times, especially in what sounded like so casual a context.

"Well, I guess it doesn't really surprise me. I'm into Ds, and a few weeks ago me and him went out with the Blackwood-Hardts and met up with a friend of mine and his boyfriend. Trent was interested in trying it out so I Dommed for him that night," Keith said. "He completely broke down and in the end he told me." He didn't really see anything wrong in telling Kane what had happened, though just what Trent had told him was a different story.
When he spoke again his words were somewhat slower. "I think his caretakers need to know about him, but I don't know that it's my place to give out that information." If Trent was a student and Keith knew, it would be an easier decision. Wasn't part of a teacher's responsibility the safety of his students?

"That's going to have to be your decision," Kane said, "but you might think about whether he could be helped better if someone else knew. If he would, it could be worth the breach in confidence."

Keith sighed again and leaned back in the chair. He propped an elbow on an arm of the chair and put his head on his fist. "Yeah." It was better for them to know, and if Trent hated him forever did it matter if the guy got help? "Damn it, why did I have to get mixed up in this? He was abused by one of his mum's boyfriends."

"Abused how?" Kane asked. Trent had been abused by multiple people in his life, and though Kane had theories, they were only that.

Keith took a moment to gather his thoughts and bring the memory to the front of his mind before relaying Trent's story to Kane. "And so because of this man Trent has this feeling like he's worthless," he finished, shaking his head. It was such a mess.

Kane was silent for some moments, absorbing everything he'd just heard. He'd been afraid it was something like that, and yet it was worse than he'd imagined. "Thank you for telling me," he said at last. "He doesn't need to know how we came by the information, but when he's stable, we might be able to get him into a survivor's group and start working on those issues." Along with the rest.
"What about you, then?" he asked, finishing a note on the pad in his lap. "How do you feel about this?"
