There was so much drama in her life that Dare could hardly keep track of it all. How could she live like that and stay sane? Nearly being killed by Soren and Ivy seemed almost reasonable in comparison. At least they hadn't been friends. Dare glanced out the window of the cafe. "Is your dog pregnant?" he asked.

She was kinda caught of guard by the change of subject and so her breath caught her throat as she responded, "No, um, uh, why?" She asked as she coughed. "I'm fine, it's just the change of subject caught me off guard."

"I thought I saw a blonde with a pregnant dog outside, that's all," Dare said. "You're sure you're okay, though?" It sounded like she was having trouble breathing, and he wished she had let him get her something to drink earlier.

"Yes, I'm fine, but I'm not for looking for a pregnant dog. Although, I am for a blonde, I'm for looking for 2 kids with blonde hair and they are almost always together and so, probably not the person that I'm looking for." She said finally catching her breath.

"Sorry," Dare said. "So how old are they? Your sister and her boyfriend, I mean?" She'd just said they were kids, but if they were old enough to be dating, they could be his age, for all he knew. She was older than him, after all. "Do they go to Hogwarts, or are they Muggles?" She had said she was living in the Muggle world.

"I might be living in the muggle world, but we are all witches and wizards, with the exception of my "step-dad" who I'm not exactly what he is. They're both 20, supposed to be students, but they haven't decided exactly what they to do. I consider them kids because they treat me like a mother, but that's only because I'm more of a mother than my own mother was ever to my sister and he never spent alot of time with his mom." She said.

"Ah," Dare said. She'd resumed telling her story, and he felt as though speaking would be rude at this point. It seemed like he hadn't said anything helpful this entire time. She didn't seem upset with him, so hopefully just listening was enough for now.

She looked down at her watch and almost swore under her breath when she saw that it was way past 3. "Wow, well, there goes that appointment with my therapist who's not only my therapist, but also my best friend from New York. She criticizes me for staying in my relationship with my ex, but I almost always ignore her advice about him." She said.

Dare couldn't imagine paying his best friend to be his therapist. It seemed like something friends did for each other free. He didn't say anything about that, though. Tori's life was far too complicated for him to try making any kinds of judgments. "Sorry if I kept you too long," he said instead.

"Oh, no, it's fine, I sometimes back out at the last minute for these appointments or I just don't show up and she always understands because we both have busy schedules, I don't pay her to be my therapist, we do it for free. For one, she works at the hospital where I go for my physical threapy and two, she's been my therapist since I left New York. She's my traveling companion, yeah, last year we went to Italy to go skiing and seeing as I can't ski, she took my dog which was a total disaster because she ending up sliding backwards down slopes. I saw the whole thing from my wheelchair." She said chuckling.

"Wow," Dare said. "Sounds like your dog has a lot of adventures." First Tori had told him about her ex trying to sleep with the dog thinking it was her, and now she'd told him how the dog had gone skiing backwards. "What's your dog's name?" That was something he didn't think he'd asked yet.

"Her name is Jasmine, but everybody calls her Jazz. She wasn't originally mine, she belonged to a mutual cop friend and they were trying to train her to sniff out bombs and other stuff, but she just wasn't interested. So, my ex brought her to the house and now she's my guide dog, to help me out around because I can't even get out of bed and getting up the stairs I need her help for stuff like that, but she always seems to run away if you want to put a harness on her. We don't why, we think while our buddy was at work one day, a group of guys came by the house and we don't know exactly know what happened, but we do know that ever since that day she's always been skittish." She said.

"So tell me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're supposed to have a guide dog and people looking out for you?" Dare asked, trying to make sure he had everything straight. "But at least one of those people has tried to kill you, you can't find any of them, and your guide dog runs away?" That sounded horrible. Sucks to be her, he thought.
