"I live in the muggle world at the moment, so to be truthfully honest, he really could be just about anywhere. I "borrowed" the car, although, technically, it's mine and already took care of the milk thing. I came in looking for my dog, my sister and her boyfriend sometimes come to the coffee shops here and thought she might be with them, but no, she's not here, the sister or the dog." She said.

Dare looked around the cafe, as though he'd suddenly see them. "What do they look like?" he asked. "I could help you look." This was a lot more than he'd thought he would be doing when he'd come to Diagon Alley today.

"Yeah, 2 blonds and a german shepherd, the dog runs away a lot and I have no clue what they're wearing today, so that doesn't really help much. I thought I was following them and then I lost them, so I came in here looking for them." She said. "I called them before I came in, but nobody answered the houise phone and they don't always answer their cell phones."

"I'm sorry, what's a cell phone?" Dare asked. He had a vague idea that a phone was what Muggles used instead of firecalling, but he'd never heard the phrase cell phone before. He told himself that it didn't matter what a cell phone was, because this was all so complicated that he didn't know if there was anything he could do.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault, I'm more well-versed in muggle technology than anything else, so sometimes I forget that not everybody is going to understand me." She said and chuckled as she pulled out her cell phone. "This is a cell phone and I had to get my ex, more comfortable with this particular phone, there's a way to track him, but I can't figure out how to use it, though."

This was all baffling, and Dare wished he understood better so he could help. He'd never used a phone though, so he wouldn't be able to help her figure out how to use hers. "You don't have to answer this if it's too personal, but where are your kids? Does he have them?"

"No, he doesn't have the kids, he never came home last night or left before I woke up this morning, but I left them with my older sister. Even if he did have the kids, he wouldn't be left alone with them for longer than an hour." She said.

Dare was in no position to tell this woman how to live her life, so he kept his mouth closed for the moment. It sounded like she was stuck in a horrible situation with too much responsibility and no one to help her. He wished he knew what he could do, but maybe all she wanted was for someone to really listen to her. He could give her that much. "How old are your kids?" he asked.

"Before we go any further, I should probably tell you that I'm 25, the ex is 30 and there are times when I wish that some of the things that have happened in my life hadn't happened. My kids are 7 1/2 and the twin are no less than 8 1/2 months." She said. "The biggest thing that I wish hadn't happened was when I broke my knee and had to wear a knee brace."

"Wow, so you were only seventeen when you had your first kid," Dare noticed. And her twins were the same age as his and Michael's. "You're glad to have your kids though, right?" He'd wanted to wait a lot longer before he had kids of his own, but maybe she didn't regret having started a family so young.

"Yes, um, he'd like to believe that the first kid was his, but I know that's not the case seeing as she's my first boyfriend's. I found out that I was pregnant at about the same time that I found out that I was a witch, my "step-dad" didn't really want to believe that I was a witch. I mean, secretly I kinda knew I was because of my mom, but the real moment that I knew I was a witch was when I threw some girls book across a room and almost caused a fire in a chemistry lab." She said.

"You say step-dad like he's not really," Dare prompted. All of this was really starting to put his own problems into perspective. As much as he apparently hadn't known about his parents, they'd been good to him, and his kids were a conscious decision with his husband. A rushed and impulsive decision, but a solid one nonetheless.

"Yeah, he's not even my real dad, he just popped into the picture one day and decided to marry my mom. I got used to the guy and then he tried to kill me in my own house in London, I'm not even sure he knew I was in the house. I told you how I tried to get my ex the help he needed, I sent away for this information for this place in California and I never got anything, all I know is that my ex went away for 7 months and I thought he'd run away. Last year, I found out that he filled out the paperwork, behind my back and sent my ex away, I'll tell I was not happy after that day with him. I've never been more pissed off with anyone than I was with him." She said.

"So how many people are trying to kill you?" Dare asked. This woman, whose name he realized he hadn't even asked, had to have issues with men after that kind of abuse. But she seemed so trusting and matter-of-fact about it all that he couldn't begin to imagine any of it. "I'm sorry, I forgot to ask your name," he said.

"My name's Tori Dunlevy and um, it's actually one, but I do worry about my ex because I can't watch him 24/7. After the first time, my ex has never tried to hurt me after that day, then again, we were also married. The marriage ended because we would never see each other except for 3 hours at night and in the morning. I still love him and we did at one point want a divorce, but now that he's lost his job, we see each other almost every single moment of the day. Although, like today, he sometimes forgets to tell me where he's going." She said.
