"Ah, I know what you mean. Like when you go to purchase something in line and you get by one of them? They're so cute, but they sure can talk your ear off," Eirene agreed with a grin. "And you're not talking too much. This is actually probably one of the first times I have ever been able to talk with someone I don't know so easily. Anyone will tell you that I'm pretty reclusive most of the time."

"You don't seem like the reclusive type to me," Michael said. The reclusive ones rarely even spoke in the store, going straight to what they wanted, to the counter, paid, then left, without saying more than just the necessary words. Or maybe there were different kinds of recluse? Perhaps someone somewhere had written about that, The Lifestyles of the Human Recluse.

Eirene shrugged. "Some days I go the entire day not talking to anyone except during class. Other days I feel brave enough to talk to strangers. Plus," she added with a small grin, "I needed to talk to you to get information about your merchandise, right?"
She hoped he didn't start thinking she was contrary or something. That wouldn't be a good way to leave an impression.

"You have a point there. I mean, I'm sure you could just stare at me until I put stuff on the counter and hoped I got it right." Michael smiled and leaned back against the counter. "But I don't think that would work very well, one of us would get aggravated and it just wouldn't be pretty." It was amusing to think of, though.

Eirene giggled quietly and nodded, "It would have been very aggravating." This interaction was the most fun she had had in a while. "You know, I'm quite glad I came down here today. This is the most fun I have had in a while."
Keenan butted her shin to remind her that he was still there. He looked at her with an indignant look on his face. She bent down and ruffled his fur.

"Well, I'm glad you came down, too," Michael said with his easy smile. "If you ever need to get away from the school, come on down." Hadn't Dare said something about getting someone to help with the shop? He looked at Eirene curiously, silently appraising. He didn't know her well, and he didn't even know if she would want to, but the thought still ran lazily through his mind.

Eirene gave him a grin. "I might just have to take you up on that."
She noticed that he was giving her a slightly curious look. She cocked her head to the side and then turned to look at the dog food. She bent down to give Keenan an absentminded pat on the head as she asked, "Is something wrong?"

Michael shook his head, though he didn't answer immediately. "Just thinking...I'm going to be taking up a position in the school as a Professor next term," he said. "And was thinking about trying to find someone to help with the shop a few afternoons a week." He got a good vibe from Eirene and he didn't think it would take much to trust her to look after things. Well, as long as he was there, too, he wasn't quite ready to give up control of the shop yet.

"Are you, really?" Eirene asked, "What are you going to be teaching?"
She imagined that having him as a teacher would be very intriguing to say the least. She could easily see it being a lot of fun. After a moment, she also figured that it would be a lot of fun to work in the pet shop--but she was going to wait a few moments before she offered her help. Michael could very easily already have someone in mind.

"Defense," Michael answered. "You could say I have a lot of experience in the field." That was a huge understatement, considering his years in the ranks, but his past was common knowledge now. "I would have started this year, but I wasn't allowed as long as Dare was still a student." And with Dare graduating in just a few short weeks, it was so close...

Eirene nodded. "I understand."
She thought she remembered hearing that he used to be a Death Eater. But he had definitely seen the light--she never would have guessed that he was like that based on what she could understand of him now. She gave him a little grin and added, "I'll be looking forward to that class with you, then."

"I look forward to having you in class," Michael returned, smiling. "If you ever think you'd like to work here, feel free to ask." It was good to go ahead and put the offer out, though he couldn't be sure she would even want to. He thought it would be a simple task to show her how everything worked, and it wasn't like she would take over everything.
