Eirene popped her head into the doorway, peeking around the door. She cautiously stepped in and looked around. She called out "Hello?" as she began to look at the pets one-by-one.

Michael looked up at the girl, and put on an easy smile that he had perfected, even when things were bad he could pull it out now. "Welcome to the shop," he said. "Just tell me if you need anything." Thankfully, Elouai, their now year and a half old black German Shepherd, had finally learned not to rush to the door whenever someone new came in and instead lay in the corner quietly chewing an old ratty rope knot.

"I shall. Thank you," Eirene gave him a small smile back. She was surprised that such a handsome man was running a pet shop. She spotted the German Shepherd and couldn't help but squeak. "Ah! She's so cute!"

Michael smiled, and Elouai's head popped up, promptly forgetting the worn toy. Her head tilted, and she pushed herself up to trot over to the newcomer. Michael chuckled softly. "She doesn't need any bigger of an ego." He leaned against the counter, crossing his arms and resting on his elbows. She got spoiled by the many regulars of the shop.

Eirene happily obliged her by petting her. She quietly laughed at Michael's comment, but continued to pet her. "Where did you get her? And are there any plain dogs here as well? I am looking for something that is relatively small, but not a lap dog."
Eirene hadn't quite managed to get to that part of the store since Elouai was distracting her just a little bit.

"I have a little bit of everything," Michael said. "And if there's nothing you like, then I'm sure I can figure out a way to get you something. There are crups up in the front," he gestured to the window where a couple of crup puppies were playfully nipping at the window at passersby. "And near them against the walls are the other dogs I have.
"Don't worry, the cages look small from the outside, but they all have plenty of room to move around in." Some people got so panicky at the site of the animals in their cages, no matter how well they were taken care of.

Eirene followed his gesture and saw the other dogs. Patting Elouai on the head in farewell, she got up to go and look at the other dogs. She looked at the crups and admitted, "I am glad to hear that they've got enough room to run around in. I know back over in America, there were always people worried about getting animals from shops because they might have come from puppy mills or something."
Eirene focused on the other dogs instead. "What breeds do you have here?"

"All of my animals are from shelters or legitimate breeders," Michael said. He had had to explain to more than a few muggle borns that he didn't support mills. Even a few people had tried to give him an old-fashioned talking-to upon realizing that he sold pets and not just supplies. "I have the more popular ones." He finally pushed away from the counter to walk over to the girl, sliding his hands into his pockets. "I try to keep a couple of German Shepherds and a few different lap dogs. I just got these a couple of days ago."
He stopped in front of a cage of medium-sized puppies with smooth, silky coats. There were only a handful, but they were each colored differently and they tilted their heads curiously, in unison, up at him when he looked in on them. "I've been told they're rather intelligent, they seem to take to training well." The girl had said she wanted a smallish dog, but she had also said she wanted a plain dog, which he assumed meant non-magical. The ones in the cage certainly weren't muggle dogs, but were the result of creative cross-breeding.

Eirene looked at the indicated puppies. She really liked the way that the coats were wavy. One in particular was looking--staring at her. She looked at it and it looked at her. "Is it okay to pick them up? I really like the look of that liver red one there."
She couldn't resist adding, "And it is so cute, just sitting there and staring at me!"

Michael smiled, "Yes, you can pick them up, play with them. If you set them down, Elouai will come up to say hi, but she's good with puppies." She was still basically one herself, but she realized she was big and acted accordingly with the other animals. Well, most of the time, anyway. Michael hadn't had the chance to get to know the newcomers personally, past getting them used to the people, but he didn't think they would do anything bad, they seemed very well-behaved when they needed to be.

Eirene grinned and picked it up. The wavy coat was nice and it wasn't too long nor too short. It was a beautiful liver red and white coat. The nose was long and slender and the eyes were bright and a melt-your-heart brown.
She looked at him and he looked at her. He wagged his tail and licked her. She couldn't help it. "I love him! Does he have a name or anything?"
She promptly started to pet him and tickle him.

"No, you can name him whatever you want," Michael said, reaching into the cage to scratch at the others' ears. "I have everything you need in the shop, and you get a little discount package when you buy the basics with the animal." There had been more than a few people get angry with the separate prices of things, so he had given in and put in a bundle price, it had been one of the better changes he had made.

"That is awesome! Thanks!" She held the puppy up like he was Simba and proclaimed, "You shall be... Keegan."
Keegan eagerly leaned forward to lick her chin, causing her to giggle. "Let's go get a collar for you. What color do you think would be best, sir?"
She remembered her manners and quickly added, "Oh, my name is Eirene, by the way." She shifted Keegan into one arm and offered her hand to him.

"Michael," Michael said, taking Eirene's hand and giving a smile. "It's nice to meet you." He released her hand and gestured back to the little hallway where all the supplies were waiting to be bought. "I'm not exactly the best for color coordination," he said with a soft chuckle. "Anyone will tell you that."

"Really?" Eirene asked as she walked to the hallway. She stood, looking at the colors. "I guess I haven't met anyone yet then."
She gave him a little grin. Keegan squirmed a little in her arms, but she didn't want to put him down until she had a color. She picked out a bright red collar and put it on him. She examined it critically. "I'm not exactly the best at it, either," she sheepishly admitted as she let him on the ground.
All Keegan did was scratch at his ear and sit by her feet, looking up at her with a playful look on his face. "I suppose you want a toy, too, huh, Keegan?"
