Zilnafa hid a smile at his offer to help her study. She didn't think she could ever actually take him up on it but the thought was nice. It was certainly nicer then most people had been. Maybe he was offering out of politeness. In Africa, they usually just said what they thought but in Hogwarts everything had been tilted.
"Oh." What did one say to such an offer besides the common rude insult I don't need someone as stupid as you to help me, you'll just drag me down. Jory wasn't idiotic; he had common sense but still what does one say to something like that? "Erm..thanks?"

"You're welcome," Jory said. "You can just send me an owl or something, if you want. Of course, we don't have to study, studying all the time's boring." He started on the next row of books to try to find something. If he was jumping a little again on assuming she would even want to ever see him again, he didn't realize it.

Zilnafa was thrilled but the only sign was a smll smile that disappeared as soon as it came. It seemed that he acutally might want to spend time with her...Oh goodness, how starved for human contact had she become? She was excited that a boy, who'd she'd known for no more then oh...twenty minutes, had offered out of pure courtesy to spend maybe forty minutes a week with her. That was pathetic!
But she wouldn't mind the company that was for sure. "Uh." She shrugged. "I think I will. Thanks.

Jory had caught that short smile and it brought a small one to his own lips. "You're welcome. You should smile more," he said. "You have a pretty smile." A few moments later he heaved a heavy sigh. "Staring at all these books is making my eyes hurt, do you want to look through this one?" he asked, gesturing with the book still resting against his hip. His eyes flickered up and caught on one with the word traits barely visible, and pulled it down, as well.

Zilnafa blinked at Jory. It was the second time she'd been complimented by him and this time, she was befuddled. It was incredibly nice of him and she wanted to give him one back.
"Yeah. My eyes hurt. Let's go look at it." She paused. "You're smarter then I thought. I mean you look-" And it was coming out wrong. "less smart then you actually are....I'm going to stop now." She bit her lip, and frowned.

Jory shrugged it off, "I'm really...airheaded sometimes. Well, a lot of the time. I just spend a lot of time looking up Divination stuff, so I kind of have an idea of what to do in the library if I know where to look and what I'm looking for. I'm really not that smart." He looked around for the nearest table and started towards it, extremely glad to have something to do.

Zilnafa jumped on the topic eagar to get rid of her blunder. Besides it was a slightly fascinating subject anyway. She knew nothing about it, and hadn't taken it but this seemed like an excellent time to learn.
"Why'd you choose Divination?" Her eyes scanned the library. "There's a seat." She pointed. "Is it hard? What do you do besides drink tea?"

Jory gave a light laugh. "I do a lot other than drink tea. I've always liked Divination. My aunt gave me Tarot cards when I was, like, eight and taught me how to use them. I've been hooked ever since. I can read Tarot cards and regular cards and tea leaves. I'm learning coffee grounds, crystal balls, and runes. I'm okay at arithmancy." He plopped the books down, the one on African purebloods beside of the one on traits, to let Zilly choose first.

Zilnafa plopped into a large hard-backed chair and pointed at the one Jory had picked out.
"How are we going to do this? Share or you look in one tomb and I look in the other?" She asked as a side question. Her real inqury came next. "What's the difference between a tarot card and a regular one besides the funny little picutres? Was your aunt a really great Seer?"

"I say we both look, then we can switch if we don't find anything," Jory said as he slid the book on African Purebloods toward Zilly. He pulled the other one toward him and opened the old cover. He figured he had a better chance of finding something in this one instead of the other since he didn't have to have a good grasp of anything other than Zilly's eyes.
"She wasn't, but she liked learning about it and everything. If she ever gave a real prediction or anything I don't know about it. Tarot cards mean something, like, they're meant to mean something. Like, if you get a certain card, it can mean something specific, but it'll mean something completely different if it's upside down. But a regular deck of cards doesn't have all that stuff, so it's a lot simpler. You can't get as much detail," he explained.

"But wouldn't it be easier to use regular cards?" Zilnafa asked blinking at Jory, trying desperatly to avoid opening the book. She did not want to do this. "Because then it wouldn't it be easier to tell whether you're spot on with your prediction?" It made much more sense to Zilnafa to do it that way.
She made a face at her book, sighed, and flipped it open.

"No," Jory said. "Like...if you have a two of hearts, you can't tell if it's upside-down or not, right? So that makes it so that it only means one thing. But the Tarot deck version of that card could be upside-down or rightside-up, which means it could mean two things. So the Tarot deck is more reliable." He looked down curiously at the book as he started flipping through the first few boring pages filled with useless printing and author information.

"Huh." Zilly crinkled her nose. "I think this is why I would do horrible in that class. It makes more sense when you explain it I guess."
She glared at her book. Words like lowly muggle-borns and purebloods and attacked purebloods. She picked out a phrase. Purebloods against the the inculsion of Muggle-borns were violently attacked by the pureblood for Muggle-borns, known as Blood Traitors, during the time of the creation of Hogwarts. A spell was fired on purebloods by the blood traitors causing a change of heart which reappeared in later generations as a odd eye color. Huh. That was certainly useful.
"Hey Jory, I think I found something.

"You do?" Jory asked, shifting in his seat to pull his legs up underneath himself. He leaned up on his elbows on the table so he could look over at her book. "What is it?" He hadn't expected to find something so soon, well...he hadn't found something, but still. He hadn't expected to find himself so interested, but he couldn't help feeling curious about it.

"It says that purebloods shot spells at other purebloods that caused a change in heart and later on in the eyes. Is that good?" She blinked at Jory, apprehensive.
She could be wrong. She could be terribly horrifyingly Merlin forsakingly wrong and thus be embaressed to the end of time and perhaps now she should just bury her head in the sand. But her gut was clenching and sending a little whine to her head that crooned, You're right. You're right.
"Is that something? I can't tell."
