Ryan walked out of the castle and looked outside. It was mostly a gray day outside, with fog on the lawns. He smiled as he looked out and started walking down the lawn and came to the lake. He looked out at the lake and remembered all of the things that had happened since he got here, some of the great, some of them horrible. He sat up against the tree and let himself get lost in thought until he heard someone near him and he turned around to see who it was.

Brindle usually avoided running into people on her walks, but with the fog, she didn't see anyone until she was already nearly on top of him—and he was looking at her. Her vivid blue eyes widened slightly with the surprise, and her lips parted slightly. Then she recognized him, though she doubted he'd recognize her. They'd only run into each other once after all, and they'd been interrupted by a much prettier girl. Still, she gave him as polite a smile as she could muster. "Hey," she said, then nearly kicked herself for not having come up with anything better.

Ryan smiled "Hey there stranger. Its been a while since our run in at the shack. I never did catch your name that night. What is your name?" he said as he looked at her. He could vaguely remember that night, and remembered that Katherine had interrupted them before he got a chance to find out anything about this girl.

Brindle blinked in surprise. He did recognize her. That information had her momentarily off-balanced, but she caught herself quickly enough and tried to think of something to say. She wasn't shy per se, but she'd never been especially social, either. He asked your name! She nearly kicked herself. And then she found herself smiling back at him. "Brindle," she said. "My name's Brindle. And you're Ryan Magby." Another mental kick. He knows who he is!

Ryan laughed and motioned for her to sit beside him "Calm down, don't be nervous. I'm nothing to be nervous about."

Brindle's chin lifted a notch. "I'm not nervous," she claimed. Still, it took her a moment or two to move her feet, to approach and sit next to Ryan as closely as she dared. She was nervous, she always got flustered around boys as much of a tomboy as she could be, but she wasn't about to admit to it if she didn't have to. Sitting in the middle of the fog didn't help her nerves much at all. It felt so secretive. Her vivid blue eyes were wide as she looked aside at Ryan, but she kept her chin tilted with bravado and managed a smile. Probably a goofy one, now that she thought about it.

Ryan smiled and looked around "I love this kind of day, very calming for me." he said as he looked back at Brindle, "What about you?"

"It feels like the dead are about to rise," Brindle confessed. Fog in New York was so different. It seemed to cut off the buildings, to bring the sky lower, but this... it felt like some eerie dream. She wouldn't be terribly surprised to see a group of Inferi make its way through out of the glassy lake onto shore. "It's different in the city," she explained.

Ryan nodded "Much different. Which city are you from?"

"New York," Brindle said. "And you're from Texas, aren't you? I can tell by your accent," she explained. With so many British accents surrounding her all the time, it was so easy to pick out the few that were different. She tried not to think too much on that, afraid she might get attached to Ryan simply because he was American. But there was something in common, if something obscure.

Ryan smiled "Nice call, yea I am from Dallas. You are only the 2nd American I have met here at school. Glad to know I am not the only one."

Brindle blinked at that. "Really?" she asked, surprised. "I know a bunch of us. There's me and my brother, Dare and Silver and Anna, and Dru. Hm, Maybe I don't know that many after all." It was only six, seven if she counted Ryan, which she probably should. She could have sworn she knew more than that. Had she really been that alone?

Ryan looked at her "I didn't know Dare and Silver were from the states. I knew Dru was, and you."

For a second, Brindle was surprised that Ryan knew Dare and Silver, before she realized Dare was pretty infamous by now, and even Silver had gotten into the Daily Prophet. "They're from California," she said. "We went to school together for a while. And we do now, too," she added. Why couldn't she just talk like a normal person? Brindle's fingers found their way into the ends of her fine blonde hair, playing with it as she tried to find something clever to say.

Ryan smiled and looked at her "Don't worry Brindle, you don't have to try to do or say anything to impress me. I have already been impressed with you."
