Markise had to open the shop today. He hadn't wanted to, a repeat of the other day would have been a lot of fun, but if he wanted to justify keeping the shop, he needed to make it work. He'd worked all summer to make this work, though he was still unsure whether it would. He'd opened it late of course, but he'd opened it, and he'd been working with Ariel to move things around so the shop wouldn't be any more recognizable than the apartment. And with his back to the door and windows, making no pretense that he wasn't enjoying watching.

Ariel didn't mind the work, it kept his mind off of how everything was so different from how it was the last time they had been here before the summer. But he couldn't help raising an eyebrow and shooting out a tease. "Are you just going to watch or are you actually going to help?" he asked, then focused once more on the work in front of him.

Markise's lips curved, and his eyes glittered as he looked Ariel over. "This is what I'm not paying you for," he teased back. So maybe he was keeping track of what Ariel should be getting paid, and maybe he was setting part of it aside as they went along and letting part of it go toward what Ariel thought he owed. But he wasn't paying him. Ariel would never accept it, and it didn't feel right. "You know you're good with a wand anyway."

Ariel smirked at that, "You could say that." He couldn't help the fact that his mind went straight up the stairs with Markise's comment. His eyes raised for just a moment before he forced them away. They actually needed to work this evening, not just find their way upstairs. He wished he could find some way of actually making money, though, but he had the feeling Markise would frown on that. So he had to deal with what he had saved over the summer.

Quinn was eager to have the chance to see Markise again, happy that she'd managed to find a friend that she could talk to. Pushing the door open she walked into the store, not sure what she'd find. When she say another man in the store with Markise, smiles on their faces she hesitated. Men one and she could talk, two and she had issues, besides this guy was more obviously a guy than Markise was.

Markise turned at the sound of the door, and almost immediately his demeanor changed. The flirtatious gleam in his eyes mellowed, and he straightened, his posture adjusting to something more... straight. He smiled, but inwardly, he was sighing at the interruption no matter that he'd known she was going to visit. "Hey, Quinn," he said, his voice deepening purposefully from where it had been, back to the tone he used with everyone else.

Ariel didn't miss the change in Markise, and though his eyes turned to the girl for a moment, he closed off and focused on his work again. It was amazing how Markise could turn it off so easily, how one second he could be the flirty little Angel of the clubs, and at the next he turned into an immaculately dressed...man. He wondered briefly if he changed so much around other people.

Quinn walked in and both men seemed as though they got a bit more tense. Slowly she walked towards Markise, careful not to turn her back to the other guy, not wanting to let her guard down. There were two of them, even if she considered Markise a friend. "Hello Markise," she said softly, a small smile gracing her face, "I've come to visit." She wanted him to be nice and loose the way he'd been when they talked.

Markise hated abandoning Ariel, but he was an employee, and there was really no reason to drag an employee into things. He smiled for Quinn, turning from his purposeful spot facing away from the street and the door, and toward Quinn. "It's kind of a mess in here," he said apologetically, keeping his thumbs tucked lightly in his pockets rather than gesturing around. "I'm remodeling." Actually, Ariel was remodeling, and Markise had just been... overseeing the progress.

It was easy for Ariel to bring back his habitual aversion to people. It had always been easy to hide in the shadows and keep away from people. Of course, it was a little harder when he wanted to glance at Markise. He decided the easiest way to do it would be to go to the opposite wall and organize some of the things by size. He didn't know the girl, and he didn't care to know her, so though he couldn't help but hear the conversation, he made no move to say anything.

To be honest, Quinn hadn't noticed the mess, not like her family had allowed her the best living quarters ever. "It looks fine to me, although I'm sure that it will look even better when you're done." Quinn ran nervous fingers through her hair, more on edge than when she'd talked to Markise before. "I came to buy some clothes and get your opinion on those clothes."

Markise kept a friendly smile on his face even as he wondered how he could manage to talk about fashion and still sound straight. People were so judgmental, as though knowing what looked good automatically made a guy gay. Whether he was or not wasn't the issue. "What are you looking for?" he asked. That was a good enough place to start. He had a little of anything worth having. And for all that he could metaphorically sell himself, he knew he was doing a crap job of pushing clothes.

"Really everything," Quinn said softly, "it's not like I got to bring a lot here with me, so I'm a bit lacking in the clothing department." She thought for a moment about the club concert they were trying to put together, "I really need something for a benefit concert. That might be the most important, but I really have no idea what to wear." If it were up to her, she'd probably wear her white dress everywhere she went.

Markise had meant what style, but he didn't correct Quinn just yet. He was too excited at the prospect of someone buying more than a shirt, though he also felt guilty at the idea of making someone he knew give him money instead of just helping her out and giving her something. He was starting to realize that he was a pretty bad businessman. He was also wondering vaguely about this benefit concert. "I haven't heard anything about a concert," he said.

Quinn nodded, "a girl named Madison Foster, your sister and I are putting on a benefit concert for the advocacy club. The first issue we're targeting is homosexual rights." A few strands of her hair that had come loose found themseelves around her fingers as she worried out loud, "Brindle says that we should do it on National Coming Out Day, and it's so close we're hurrying to put everything together."
